Where does last night sit in the scheme of things?

I think given the level we are at, and standard of opposition, that was right up there as one of the very worst.

Other stand outs off the top of my head are the 7-1 vs Peterborough and that Bolton game. Prob the two Norwich drubbings too.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned the 1-4 defeat away to Bolton in April 2002.

We're still paying the price for that shambolic afternoon almost 19 years later.

I still shudder at the thought of this game - I was in the gym at the time and after having convinced an instructor to switch the TV from playing music to Sky Sports, I was close to breaking some of my lifting PBs in sheer anger and frustration at the way we just rolled over that day. Totally agree about paying the price...

The Sir Bobby game was the only time I have switched off a game before the end. I just couldn't take being stuffed at home by that lot...

Lincoln away in the cup!

Another shudder inducing performance and result - I keep convincing myself that this didn't happen...

A few off the top off my head to compare:

- Bolton (a) 2002; the only one on this list I wasn't at but has to be right at the top of any list, probably with Grimsby a few months later.

- Southampton (h) 2002;
- Reading (a) 2002;
- Wimbledon (h) 2003;
- Charlton (a) 2007;
- Newcastle (h) 2010;
- Norwich (h) 2011;
- Southampton (h) 2011;
- Peterborough (a) 2011;
- Charlton (h) 2012;
- Bolton (h) 2018;
- Middlesbrough (h) 2018;
- Lincoln (a) 2019;
- Peterborough (h) 2020;
- Swindon (h) 2021;
- Northampton (h) 2021;
- Fleetwood (a) 2021.

Edit to add Charlton (twice).

And a load of Hull home games the last 4/5 years.

Everyone was saying after the 0-0 with Northampton that that was the ''worst performance they'd ever seen'' etc. I'd argue this was worse.

There's been many occasions over the last 5 odd years we've said this, and pretty much every other week the last 2 seasons.

I wonder if in some hell like universe we were forced to watch all of them back to back to decide which one is the champion.

It pretty much is a case that there were some shockers over the years but during the last two seasons they seem to be a regular occurance. I am almost at the point when numbness sets in.

The 7-1 Peterborough away under Jewell and 2-0 Middlesbrough at home under Hurst are the worst I've ever seen.

That Middlesbrough game was chaos....no one knew what they were doing

Probably nowhere near the worst, but one that sticks out is a drab 0-0 at home to Blackpool where Mcgoldrick limped off to compound the misery.

Might have been the one where Chopra returned to PR and was given a warm welcome by the SBR.

That was a real rear end in the air surrender special. The Evans years have mostly been truly awful.

Of so many to try not to remember the one that I can never forget pre-dates our saviour. Ipswich v Sheffield Weds. Carlton Palmer, who couldn’t trap a bag of cement, walking through the whole team like George Best for the 4th goal. No wonder there was a pitch invasion at the end.

Rather ironic and very sad that if the current dregs played that poor Ipswich team twenty times it’d lose every time by a cricket score.

Edit: that was last century. This century I still haven’t got over the Norwich hiding or the Newcastle humiliation. Honourable bronze medal to the Bolton surrender. So many to choose from.

Save the pain and scroll to 4mins 30 for the spendings off. Remember watching this live and LMs challenge was reckless but got the ball. Watching now feel Smith's was harsh looks like 2 players tripping over each other. At the time I was disgusted, seething and fed up with our team.

How I have kept going and dreaming since the early noughties I do not know. It's the hope and dreams that keep you believing.

Heaps of examples since 2002. Some earlier ones.

Stockport at home under Burley was grim, though arguably better than the defeat at Charlton the Saturday before (Dozzell's last game).

Barnsley away in the cup in 1990. We could still be playing now 30 years later and still wouldn't have scored.

Palace away in 1988. 2-0 down before we'd got in the ground.

Port Vale on New Years Day 1990. 5-0 having not lost for 2 months, I think it was John Wark who said the players were all hungover.

Any trip to Oldham...

Lincoln away in the cup in 2017. Championship side losing to a non-league side on national TV was pretty bleak. 9-0 has to have a mention. 6-0 against Leicester. 5-1 at Reading. There’s a long list before last night. It was bad but let’s put it into perspective.

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned 2-3 home defeat to Bristol City from the relegation season. Personally this was the lowest I've felt as a fan since 1-5 to Norwich.

That Bristol City game. The goalie Bialkowski, the defence Spence - Chambers - Pennington - Knudsen. So 4 out of that 5 were the 'proper blokes'. The way and manner in which them 5 gifted Bristol City all three goals was utterly disgusting and embarrassing. Didn't know whether to cry or laugh. One thing was certain though. We were always going to be relegated with that horrible mob. Lambert had no chance. Even Klopp or Guardiola wouldn't have saved us.

Other games include both Millwall ones from that season. 0-3 defeat at theirs just before Lambert took over. Hilarious mix-up between Chambers and Bialkowski led to one of their goals. Millwall fans had been saying we were the worst ever Championship side to have visited their place. 2-3 defeat at ours too on New Years day and again three goals conceded in the second half.

Lincoln in the FA Cup.

0-3 to Hull at home followed by mccarthys hysteria on the pitch.

Fleetwood home last season and yesterday.

Peterborough 1-7 under Jewell and 1-4 home last season.

Too many games to choose from !!!

One constant thing in all of them and that is the charlatan Evans and calibre of players we got under his tenure.

Oh and 0-4 away to Burnley under Jewell on the cold Tuesday night. That team was a resemblance of the current shower.

That 3-0 at Millwall seems to go under the radar, maybe because it wasn't actually Mick, Hurst or Lambert in the dug out?

That was an embarrassing afternoon.

'That was an embarrassing afternoon'

Plenty of 'proper blokes' in the opening line-up though. Millwall fans had been laughing. A few months later those 'proper blokes' got clapped and cheered for the relegation following the Birmingham game at PR.

There might have been crappier performances but travelling from sweden to watch the 0-2 against QPR during the hurst season was, football wise, awful. We barely created a half chance during the whole game.

Since my first game in 1985, I would have to say Boxing day at home against Gillingham 2019 was a particularly low point, tragic game, no shots by either side and everytime Gillingham had a throw in, a player would come from the other side of the pitch to take it. A truly horrific spectacle, and was in the midst of our dire run, and then we gave Lambert an extension.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've considered games in the last 7 years to be the worse I've ever seen.

majority of times I don't even recognise what we are. because it times its not a football team.

I was 10-16 under burley, and i'd go to games buzzing, come home even more so! 5-0 wins, attacking football, players I adored.

We’ll be good again... one day

For me Lincoln, and just to give Bolton another memorable mention, they've really got their own back and had the last laugh over us haven't they? I would say the 0-0 at home under Hurst.

That game for me summed up where we were heading, Hurst was a Charlatan, we were appaling against 10 men, Walters came back and lasted ?? minutes and it was in the week after we lost the Beat. One of the worst weeks supporting the club I can remember, and there's been a good few contenders recently,

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Remember the Brentford game a few days before that Bolton match which was the one where all the tributes to Beattie took place? Hurst changed formation and in the first half of a match in which there was quite a lot of raw feeling around the place, we were terrible. Better performance in the second half to gain a point, but Jackson missing a late chance to win it summed the club up. When glory beckons, we will always trip over our shoelaces.

Wasn't it great when Rotherham at home was seen as the worst possible. We blew that apart on so many occasions since.

Rotherham away last time round is possibly the most bored I've ever been at football.

Even when we got thrashed by norwich twice or by posh we were managing more shots per game and more time in their box than we do nowadays

Funny how the Lincoln cup game gets mentioned so often. I'm guessing this is because it was live on tv and those supporters haven't been to many other games. The hammering there in the league was worse and many other games even worse

Ipswich 0-0 Burton in 2018 I'm still convinced is the worst game of football ever played, both teams were absolutely shocking, chance of the game was 35 year old, overweight Darren Bent missing a one on one.
Normally when we play badly I sit in a frustrated and moody silence, that day I was crying genuine tears of laughter. Just the fact that I was sitting in freezing cold, watching a diabolical game of football on a dire pitch, when there were so many better things I could be doing with my Saturday afternoon just felt so brilliantly farcical. It's simultaneously my favourite and least favourite game ever.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

I’m struggling to see how you can count that Bolton game. Or any premier league game for that matter.

We’ve played equally as bad on far more occasions recently - in league one!!!!!

There are so many more than I care to think about.
