Matt Gill's leading it.

Don't think this is very good - if Cook didn't know about the takeover at all he's been completely shafted by Evans -just put in place in case the takeover fell through, with Evans knowing that Cook might not want to work under the new club structure etc.

Who knows. If Evans failed to inform, lied, hedged his bets, misled that just reinforces what a bag of brown stuff Evans is - and that Cook’s dodged a bullet.

All this ‘I look forward to working with Marcus’ exciting plans stuff was nonsense. It would have been more of the same. Sell anything worth anything, flog a bit of training ground, promise to wipe the mould off the roof etc etc - and bring in worse players than we already have, which would take some doing unless they’d actually died.

I’m totally easy about Cook. It’s up to him. It’d be a shame because he’s about the best of the lower league managers, but maybe we should now go after some by say like Mowbray, who’d never have worked for Evans.

We’re all probably (hopefully) reading too much into this. BUT if Evans hasn’t been fully upfront with Cook when he made the appointment then that is pretty shocking. Cook could therefore be unhappy and opt to walk. What a debacle that would be.

Not really. Evans has gone. New dawn. If Cook doesn’t like it now the time to find out.

Cook must've known, Lambert was banging on about it only days before his appointment......

He may not have known the detail but he knew there was a very strong possibility.

Yup, really can't see him being happy to see recruitment taken out of his hands - really think that the attraction of Ipswich / ME was that the manager could just basically have free reign to do whatever - that's now going to be turned on it's head.

He will shortly be on his way...I have it on good Authority....

Can't see an issue, he'd just be repeating everything he's said over and over again..

You can see how frustrated he is with this bunch, no point in keep putting him on the spot..

Shouldn't be reading too much into it but, if nothing else, that's a strange decision from Cook.

It’s strange as the club had committed he was doing it, he had missed the Friday presser stating he wanted to comment on takeover after the MK Dons match.

Also whilst it was still a poor performance it was much improved on Rochdale and the return of Downes and Nydam, and some of the play from Drinan and Dobra was of merit - as Gill emphasised himself.

Hope I’m wrong on all this, but as I have been stating all week, how can Cook be happy when he doesn’t yet know who his boss is?!

Cook would also be able to easily get his whole contract paid by the club if his role / responsibilities under the new ownership would be significantly altered.

I am guessing that Cook swerved the press yesterday & today because he knew he would be grilled about the implications of the takeover & either he hasn't had the chance for a proper pow-wow with the new owners or he feels there are some issues about structure etc which need to be resolved.

How the fook did he not know about the takeover? Paul Lambert knew about the takeover, and two days before he was sacked he said that they'd be bringing in their own man. He even joked that Cook was already in his office.

Unless Cook has been living on Mars then I'd be gobsmacked that he wasn't aware of what's been going on.

Those saying there's nothing to see here seem mistaken to me. Cook promised to talk about it this evening. He would know that failure to appear would be construed as something or other, or he's not the clever bloke I think he is. He can't but wonder if the gig isn't the one he signed up to, both in terms of realising what a useless squad he has inherited, and the unknowable pressure of working directly under someone he hasn't met yet, but who will be responsible to a much more demanding regime than the one he sat down and bargained with before his appointment.

I wouldn't be hugely surprised but neither would I be hugely gutted. It wouldn't look good going into next season as it would make it look like the club is in chaos mode but equally Cook has come in and made us marginally worse.

More than the CEO thing, let's just say I'm not entirely convinced Cook will be sold on a data/analytics-led approach. But I doubt that would account for him at this point. Expect he'll have next year to get us up.

Must have known about it and been discussed with him. O’Neill put out that was the way we were going before the takeover even happened.

I know all that, but the point is whether Evans told him during the recruitment process that the structure of the club and his role was likely to change - if he didn't do that, and just passed it off as 'another investor coming in' or something, then Cook will be in a position to walk and get his contract paid up if he isn't happy about it - he would likely want to be clear about his legal position before commenting publicly.

If Evans had told him it was just investors, or not happening then it’s not beyond the wit of man he didn’t think it was happening

If the owner tells you nothing is happening, as manager your choices are either "this guy is a liar and I shouldn't work with him" or "ok, i trust you". You aren't really in a position to just choose to believe media reports and rumour.

Did Cook want them though?

Why wouldn't Cook want more investment and funds for better players? He's not stupid, he'll know that these guys will give he more £££ to spend than Evans.

Plus, cook was aware of the take-over rumours when he joined, if he didn't want to work under them he wouldn't of taken the job

Evans is no longer the owner. If he told Cook porkies, there's nothing Cook can do about it. He has to decide if he can work with the new owners. If he doesn't like their proposed new structure, he may walk. He did leave Pompey under acrimonious circumstances & turned down Championship clubs, maybe for similar reasons. I reckon he may well walk. He can go down as another of Town's least successful managers ever & yet another disastrous appointment by Evans.

Yeah, I'm nervous about these missed interviews. Really think he will be able to turn us around in the summer and don't want to lose him before he's had a proper crack at it.

I was really interested in hearing his opinion.

I think he is shocked at the poor response he's had from the players and it is really indicative of their poor attitude. So probably feels a bit shhh about that and transparency at the moment

If he is upset / going to walk then he will want to get his contract fully paid up, and publicly commenting on the takeover would be risky in advance of the legal proceedings - that's (potentially) why he hasn't publicly commented.

One of the things I hated when McCarthy was appointed was that he made it clear how lucky we were to have him. We should have people feeling privileged to take the job here, just as John Lyall did in 1990. Same with the players. It shouldn’t be easy street, a rest home, a place to get fit for their real club, somewhere to fund the boozer etc. They should want to bust a gut to be the best they can be for themselves and the club

I really hope the new owners bring a sense of pride, professionalism and identity back, where people do want to be here. That includes the manager. He should have done the press conference today. As with Lambert it was part of his job. He wants to be here 100% or he doesn’t. I just hope he makes his mind up quickly or just as important, the new owners make mind up about him if he’s getting hissy.
