I rarely watch TV but pay the licence fee as around half goes to support local arts and culture iniatives that may otherwise be lost. That and the Tories want to get rid of it.
As for what I do watch on BBC, mainly BBC Parliament and Storyville documentaries, which are excellent.

Definitely any programming which wouldn’t be viable on free-to-air commercial television. The natural history department is second to none.
Particularly those produced in conjunction with the OU - 'Blue Planet' series etc. Genuinely the best in the world - I don't know of any other educational programmes which grip most of any nation.
HIGNIFY as mentioned, Line of Duty, other drama (if 'I Claudius', 'Boys from the Blackstuff', 'GBH' and 'Pennies from Heaven' are ever repeated, *watch them*!).
I love radio - Radio 4 & 4Extra as mentioned, 5Live & 5live SportsExtra of course, TMS! And a channel sadly neglected by most, therefore terribly under-rated - BBC World Service. Outstanding documentaries ('From Our Own Correspondent' is unmissable for me, first-person on the spot insights into ordinary peoples' lives around the globe); & truly factual news covering the entire world again - including the UK - my go to for objective news coverage.
Cheap at the price imho.
Edit: Sorry Jaykay, hadn't seen yours when I posted mine, good to see someone else who appreciates the WS!
I also forgot a big mention for R3, esp the Proms, & the Beeb's superb support for musicians, orchestras, choirs, composers, conductors, new music, festivals etc etc - again I think some people not aware of this, hence it's an under-rated aspect of what the organisation does for this country & the rest of the world ðŸ‘
The last two are examples of astute use of funding to bring in quality programming from elsewhere, but it should be noted that the BBC collaborates with other broadcasters to good effect too.

And 'Clue'! The best comedy programme of all time imho, along with 'Fawlty Towers'.
Just finished watching the one off drama 'Sitting In Limbo' before it goes off the iPlayer on Monday. Wish I had watched it when it came out, the BBC does these films that light up current affairs pretty well.

Rather than try and defend it with examples of original programming from the past year, when Covid restrictions have led to multiple delays and cancellations, instead ask yourself this:
If Thatcher had defunded the BBC in 1979, what would we never have had?

And all you right wingers who call for the defunding of the BBC wouldn't have had Top Gear and Clarkson to tell you what to think.
Or even Allo Allo and Little Britain so you could laugh at funny foreigners.

It's an interesting question as I have recently cancelled my license as I wasn't watching any live TV (or the shows that i did watch were not worth the fee). For me it was shows like Mrs Brown's Boys which are so far away from what I would actually watch that did it for me. The BBC needs to be reformed, or how they charge does anwyay. For the 14 pounds per month I'd pay for the license, I can have Netflix and another streaming service and still have change left over. Sadly as much as i do truly rate some of the BBC content, for me it's just not value for money anymore.

Defunding the BBC doesn't mean abolishing the BBC. It means let it fund itself, like ITV does through commercial revenue.
And how the frig you have left Only Fools & Horses, arguably the greatest British sitcom of all time off your list!
