Bonus if in easy reach of picturesque scenery and nature. Answers on a postcard please. A preference for suggestions in the following order: 1) Europe 2) UK 3) North America 4) Rest of the world Thanks. Edited to 250k-500k+ to cover a broader minimum level. You're the first person I've heard who hasn't said Anchorage is a dump. Certainly close to picturesque scenery though. SB [Post edited 14 Jun 2021 16:28]

RoW - I need to travel more outside of major cities and rural landscapes! As an oddball destination, even if it is a bit big, Taipei. |
+1 for Stockholm. | | | |

Cities with a large population (500k +) on 16:11 - Jun 14 by StokieBlue | Don't think there has been any riots in Copenhagen for quite some time and Christiania is pretty timid really. It's also got some nice places just outside, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is fabulous. SB |

In response to victorywillhappen - it's very much as a consideration of somewhere to live and work. I've no idea where to go but I'm 99% sure I don't want to stay in the UK longterm (I know I asked for UK recommendations too; mainly for comparison and on the off chance I've overlooked somewhere amazing).

Cities with a large population (250k-500k +) on 16:28 - Jun 14 by FoghornGleghorn | +1 for Stockholm. |
+2 Stockholm. It's a little bit cramped in the centre because of the waterways, but not in a bad way. Very quaint really. And it's easy to escape; there's some lovely scenery around there with the archipelago on the doorstep. My Mrs has lived in both Stockholm and Copenhagen. I preferred the former when I used to visit, but both are good. 1) Stockholm 2) Glasgow. Or Bath. (I like Bristol, as many others seem to, but just throwing something else in) 3) Seattle (I'd love to go to Boulder - meant to be superb) 4) Reykjavik

I've been to Kathmandu so many time and would absolutely love to live there for a bit. It's just so raw and vibrant, even if it is being gentrified a bit in places now. When I first went the arrivals in the airport still had a dirt floor. None of the modern rubbish that they have there now. It's just a superb place (although has been hammered with Covid lately, poor sods).

Come to Edinburgh. 542,000 population. Once everything opens up tons of jobs across a wide range of sectors. Hills and woods and streams and harbours and seaside all within walking distance. And world class beauty spots within an hours drive or train. An incredible culture/music/comedy/drama/festivals scene. Great food and drink. An hour-ish by plane from most of the UK if you have to get back quick. A quicker than you'd think train back to London in 4 and a half hours. And the outside possibility of a bonus European passport in the near future. Come and join the TWTD Northern Exiles!

It's more like 210k if you cover all the urban area which it stems out from the centre It's bigger than Ipswich and feels like a more city kind of vibe, I guess geographically it's the regional centre for Norfolk where as Ipswich doesn't have that same pull for shopping or a day out at least [Post edited 15 Jun 2021 9:06]

Why not go through them all if you’re going to be that picky? Bath was mentioned but that only has a population of 89k I think you’ll see the criteria is 250-500k+ [Post edited 15 Jun 2021 9:08]

To be honest, Anchorage isn't pretty itself. True. It's functional. It is more that it is the gateway into Alaska and the fantastic scenery within. Best holiday i've ever had once you get into the wilderness not really more than 2 hours away.

So was I (although, having yet to go to a match at Ibrox or Tynecastle or Celtic Park or Easter Road...or St. Mirren Park, I don't really feel qualified to pass an opinion. Perhaps when the pandemic truly recedes I can put that right.)
