A friend we hadn't seen since before lockdown was telling us that in the organisation she used to work for, employees are now told that, after their name on an e-mail, they now have to indicate which are the appropriate pronouns to use when addressing them.
So Facters (he/him), Mrs Facters (she/her), Footers (it).
True story.

Think on sites like Twitter it’s common to see this - could be wrong.

The company I work promotes this too, its a key part of us all being allies and encourage inclusion and authenticity. Genders are not binary, and we're all humans and deserve to be treated as such.
Back in the noughties the treatment a Trans person received (huge multinational company) was absolutely disgraceful!!! Without saying too much, someone on my team wanted to transition recently and the team completely supported them and supported their transition. Imagine living a life where you are are constantly in conflict with your implied gender identity? I cannot, it's one thing transitioning in a work environment imagine doing so across all your social circles. |  | | |

It's pretty commonplace for people to opt into it in my place of work now but it's not something that has been mandated or even recommended. We have however had a lot of inclusion training and it seems that most of the staff have positively taken on board what we've passed on.
I think the key thing to remember for anyone who feels uncomfortable about it is that you can always use the person's name or 'they' (although some non-binary people do not like the use of 'they'). I also think it's fair to say that most people who struggle with preferred pronouns find it difficult to shake the habits of a lifetime of assuming people's genders based on biological features.
Generally I think if you make a mistake and are apologetic about it and try to learn from it then nobody gets too upset for too long. [Post edited 17 Jun 2021 19:56]

That’s a good thing IMO.
Takes absolutely no effort from the majority of people but vitally important to the people for whom it is a big deal and crucial to their happiness.
I assume you’re just finding it noteworthy. But the people who have a major problem with this are the same breed as the people who had a problem with gays and lesbians a generation ago. |  |

Mr, Mrs and Miss will only become obsolete if nobody has a preference for those prefixes. It's all just about people's preferences innit. I say prefixes because I don't think any of those three count as pronouns as they can standalone as nouns in the same way Major, Prime Minister or Officer can. | |
