I'm thinking of buying a lighthouse to use as a part time residence.
It's no longer functions and is half a mile from the coast (I wont say where it is) for obvious reasons.
The thing is you still have to pay council tax BUT there is no Bin collections or local amenities and you have to provide transport to and from the mainland yourself.
The current incumbents pay approx £750 a year, do you think this is right? |  |

In 24 hours we have had a dog eating a tortoise and a man worried about the cost implications of lighthouse transportation and refuse collection. What a world.
At least you will be one of the only people in the world with a genuine need for a curved TV. Should imagine sky will charge a packet for the dish instillation.

Good luck, lighthouses don't tend to show up very often.
There was one recently that was listed for some time and several potential buyers interested but didn't sell in the end - it was on, then off, then on again... | |

You could simply enquire what the council tax is being charged for and, if you don't like the answer, declare independence and charge import/export duty on anything that is brought to/taken from it. You could even apply to join the EU once you had declared independence. Imagine having the capacity to set up your own visa and passport system and control immigration to and from your lighthouse.
As for transport, your moped will be fine. Practice catching the waves right and in no time you will be able to skim your way there and back. |  |
