Interesting that’s the first time I’ve seen someone actually say Downes wants to leave.. (other than when Palace came in!) makes the inclusion in the u23s now make more sense because for me Downes in our old squad was our best player. Yep some people have said as much but without seeing direct quotes it was a little hearsay.
But now we know he has told Cook he wants a fresh challenge, best all round he goes and we get the best price.

I'm not sure that Cook has shown much desire to keep him either.

Bournemouth would be a good move for him, recent history of improving players even if they have lost their way a little they are still currently a top-end Championship club. Just a shame we didn't get to see more of him last season, a fit Downes would have added some solidity to a stretched midfield. |  |

If he's made his intentions clear that he wants to leave and isn't committed to the future plans, then Cooks not really had much choice.

Agree. From the outside I get the sense that there were a few players that thought they were doing Town a favour by staying here. That type of attitude was always going to clash with Cook’s world view. |  | | |
