I don't think that thread should have been removed.

Some people posted controversial views in there which were read by those concerned and are now not available to the greater community. People have left, some during the course of that thread and I don't think the posts should be stricken from the record like that.

The bit of the thread that I was most uncomfortable with largely related to someone who no longer wants to post and have to confess I didn't go through it in detail before removing it. I assumed from your comment and Swailsey's it hadn't got any better overnight and thought it was best drawn to a close. I think posters are aware of what is and isn't acceptable when talking to other people on here.

OK, fair enough.

Sorry, I didn't think it showed the forum at its best and agreed with the comment about aspects of it being quite nasty. Was uncomfortable about some of the comments which had been made remaining. Didn't think they made the site seem particularly welcoming and not sort of place I'd like it to be.

I think the issue is that very often new posters (who haven't lurked on the board previously, say) are very enthusiastic and have lots of things they want to get out there, eg, opinions, questions, etc. This can sometimes jar with the overall tone of the board (and it's not the new poster's fault, unless they're a WUM) and seasoned posters can get a bit overwhelmed with the new enthusiasm - generally in time, committed new posters become assimilated Borg-like; they still have their views and distinct personality, but turned down to 7 or 8, rather than staying at 11.

I see where you're going with this, though there is something to be said for more veteran posters trying to give people friendly advice, and getting shot down for it too. I know there is a bit of a comment vs forums quipping going on here at times though.

Like I said yesterday, as firm as I have been in my views toward a couple of people on here, I don't think it appropriate to lobby to bin off those people as the board rarely improves when people are removed (Except Benters, Taximan/Cobbler and Pickles who were just mean spirited and enjoyed seeing people upset).

I'm just disappointed that whoever posted the "Anonymoose" pun doesn't get the credit they deserve.

And also the simple explanation that it was because of a "VAT investigation" is lost too.

I don't know, it was rather tedious in places. A few too many people on here, including some I generally like as posters, can't resist going over old grudges all the time. I'm more surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Telling Phil he isn't running the board very well isn't a great look either.

Edit: to clarify that last comment not aimed at this post, rather some of the comment in the other thread.
[Post edited 16 Jul 2021 9:47]

Wow, must've gone downhill a bit this morning?

The last I saw of it, far from "telling Phil he isn't running the board very well", there were actually tributes from several posters re Phil's much appreciated balanced hand & skills in running the site, all upvoted bigtime, including an apology from GB for having implied some time back that some 'isms' were taken more seriously than others. One poster even said he was pleased to see Phil at last getting some love from us!

Also a shame that if Spruce wasn't reading the thread as it was going along, he won't now see the many comments that praised his quality contributions to the site. If he was reading, I'd not mind betting that he was laughing his socks off!

And - sympathies to Hype - his "virgin 10-pager" ruled out by VAR

Having said all that - it's obvs Phil's site, an incredibly difficult job doing the journalism, the comms with the Club, the bureaucracy etc. *and* keeping this kindergarten in some semblance of order with so few "staff" (as was also said on the original thread) - so whatever makes life easier for him - fair enough 👍

Policing threads on politics, Brexit, BLM , departing posters & covid are obviously causing 95% of your problems on here.

Maybe it’s time for you to make it a football only forum.

I’m sure that would help the drive for new recruits, who are obviously being put off by 10 pages of disagreement on taking the knee, mask-wearing, Corbyn, feeding starving kids etc.

Personally, I love those threads as it’s wonderful to see a baseless & ignorant opinion torn to shreds, but it clearly deters new intakes.

Has the new away kit been discussed yet?

If you're keep getting "zapped to the top of the post", it usually means your vote's already been registered & the software's throwing a wobbly because it reckons you're trying to do it twice. Can easily happen on a busy thread - the counter appears as the same number because so many are voting, & someone voted the other way to you simultaneously.
