Powder puff, a luxury we can't afford on today's evidence!

Sounds rather like a player who is returning from a life-threatening illness. Who would have thought he wouldn't be ready to tear up the league?

BC has been ill with CoVid , and is not yet up to match speed . He’s too good to not have in the side , and when he’s firing on all cylinders you’ll be glad he’s in the team .

I am assuming there re medical experts who know whether he should be and are making that call.

I just think, to expect the illness to have had no effect is very naïve.

How true, to much of a luxury to have in a 1st Division side…..far to weak

Nah, you are wrong. He had a decent game. When he wasn't on the ball he was nipping away at the man in possession, and in possession he was carrying the ball well and making openings.

So in other words a luxury we can’t afford.

Not sure who he should be phoning, but this is not a medical matter. Merely one of fitness.

If he is not fit enough then he should not be playing - not any more complicated than that.

In order to get up to match fitness he needs minutes on the pitch.

I’m a footballing context I don’t really understand ‘the luxury we can’t afford’ argument. Haven’t we had enough plodders and donkeys?

How is anyone supposed to gain match fitness without playing matches?

He will end up in the L1 team of the year and possibly player of the season, so yes, he needs to be a luxury we can afford.

He didn’t look ready/match fit and shouldn’t have played today but he’s not a luxury. Give him a few weeks and he’ll be established as our most influential player.

yes, if only there were other pitches he could play on

and are we to presume then that every team that starts their opening game of the season are not match fit until a few games in ?

He's off the pace for sure. Showed his quality with one especially sublime pass in the second half. He'll get better and consistent with more games.

It's almost like there's a thing, known as 'pre season', where teams play games to get match fitness into players.

Thought he played well considering he isn’t 100% fit and is coming back from a real covid scare. Certainly a player we need to be starting. Not sure what he did wrong to suggest cook made the wrong decision.

I wasn't disagreeing. Simply stating it should be no surprise.

However, there is a fair point that getting him fully fit could provide a real bonus later in the season. The question is how much time it will take and whether he can get to full fitness and form.
