You’re a real joy, Oxford match to be postponed and matches behind doors by Christmas. How full is your glass?
Maybe his motivation in posting is to encourage people to be more cautious with what measures are still easy to take (such as wearing masks in communal areas - the concourse, toilets, the supermarket etc) so that it doesn't happen!

Personally I think regardless of vaccination status there should be a requirement for a negative LFT to gain entry to PR for everyone, it’s 15 minutes out of peoples day and it’s no hardship to take a test these days, unless of course you think you’re infected

There is a degree that discovering you are infected (or need to isolate and wait for PCR results) is a big inconvenience (especially for those who lose out financially because of it). However, the majority of people are prepared to test and follow the rules if it is positive.
Again, even if the rules do not require it, there is nothing stopping people from doing them as a precaution anyway.

Why wouldn't you wear one to stop the spread of a highly infectious virus that could kill someone you theoretically could pass it on to?
SB
I'll do whatever the scientists and powers that be say I need to do. This virus is here to stay so on that basis you are advocating wearing masks forever. We simply can't go on like that and millions of people obviously feel the same. Should we wear masks every winter to stop flu spreading because that is a killer virus too which never goes away. I can obviously see exactly where you are coming from but because covid is here to stay we are starting to realise that we have to treat it like flu and live with it .

I always do, afternoon before the game or before breakfast before I leave the south coast for the games.
I’m the same with visiting work customers or travelling over to the office in Dublin even though there is no requirement for any of it.

So you do wear masks on the concourse then given its a mandated rule?
The flu false equivalence is the last refuge of the whatabouterer and I'm utterly, utterly sick of it.
And to and your question, yes, I would advocate mask wearing in confined spaces with poor ventilation every winter, given that flu is far less contagious than covid it would do an excellent job of reducing flu cases and deaths.
The real question here is why wouldn't you wear a mask in certain situations to protect your fellow countrymen? It's really not a hardship, people in Asia have no problem doing it.
I'm afraid it feeds back into the self-entitlement and selfishness we seem to have as a population that I highlighted earlier.
It's actually pretty shameful in my opinion.

Ah yes. 'wE hAvE tO lEaRn To LiVe WiTh It'.
We 'learned to live' with road deaths by legislating and mitigating against them. The scientists have never stopped advocating masks, good ventilation and distancing - worth noting that we had no flu season worth speaking of last winter.
The powers that be are incompetent corrupt people incapable of even spelling 'piss up in a brewery', let alone organising one.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

With respect to flu and mask-wearing - yes, we should, especially in enclosed public spaces - just because we haven't done in the past, doesn't mean we shouldn't start doing it from now on...the problem is that we haven't treated flu seriously enough in the past, Covid has brought home to us that we're not as hygenic and squaky-clean as we thought we were...

According to Sky News several models have agreed with this.
I'm just pointing it out. I am sceptical as well.
Hmmm. Models that no-one has seen in the public realm.
SAGE backed models always tend to be on the more cautious side, but dropping by 90% as this model predicts is also on the other side of extreme optimism.
It's been interesting on social media watching those who normally abuse modellers as pointless are now waving this round like it is gospel.
As I said, I hope they are right because it means our lives are all much easier and fewer people will die, but no-one appears to share their optimism

Will they actually check the vaccine passports and will people actually wear masks in the mandatory locations?
The answer to both things is likely to be no I would wager.
We have clear evidence that virtual all fans on the concourse are completely ignore the mandatory mask rule and nobody seems to care.
SB
On the vaccine passport checking, I have been asked every time at Portman Rd this year. Admittedly the check is cursory (No check to compare the name vs ID) but the check is done and I have seen one guy turned away who didn't have one.
If they are mandated (legally) can see no reason why other clubs won't be checking as per ITFC have done.

In your opinion. I'll abide by the rules and when/if they change I'll change with them. I'm double vaccinated and will have the booster. I would hazard a guess that there are more people now with this outlook than are wearing masks. If not it's pretty close. By your own words that means millions of people in this country are selfish which is just ridiculous. It means that millions of people have been vaccinated, are abiding by the current rules and are just getting on with life. I know you don't agree so here endeth my thoughts on the subject otherwise we'll just go round in circles.

I haven’t been asked once to present my vaccine proof at Portman road. Missed the donny game only.

why do you think that there aren't millions of selfish people in the uk?
all available evidence points to the opposite.
wearing a mask is primarily a selfless act, the fact that such a high percentage don't wear them when recommended by the government/business owners/healthcare workers, but only if it's made law backs that up!
so many other countries are much better at this than us, sadly

I notice you've not said whether you wear a mask at PR on the concourses even though you claim to follow the rules. Any reason you've avoided the question?
It's not an opinion, masks are proven to work for covid and definitely work for flu. I thought in your first post you said you'd follow the scientists?
Nope, I do think millions of people in this country are selfish and self-entitled and unfortunately you're drifting into that category.
How does wearing a mask in some situations stop you getting on with life? If just utter rubbish I'm afraid. Give me a concrete example of where wearing a mask in a certain situation stops your life. Just one. I guarantee you can't.
Cr*p like this was one of the reasons I took a break from the forums.

And why could we not wear masks forever as a matter of interest?
If mask wearing reduces Covid deaths and Flu deaths then, maybe, we could change our habits?
Alternatively, feck it, let's just let 'em kill people.....

I hope you don't think that's something to be proud of though?
I honestly don't see why is such a big deal but mask wearing is incredibly divisive.
