Looks like Greenwood's career is done. (n/t) on 15:24 - Jan 30 by lowhouseblue | the media / commentators are probably very wise not to opine on the cases you mention until court cases conclude. it's not necessarily hiding things away, rather it's not prejudicing court cases. |
Yes and I addressed that - clearly it would not be sensible to have Jermaine Jenas opining live on TV about such matters. However, taking the Giggs case for example, it would be factually and legally sound to say that the reason he was relieved of his duties as manager was because of his assault charge. To expand on the role of the media, whilst they may not be in a position to discuss specifics openly, making a big deal of players with allegations against them helps hides things from public knowledge, even if it's unintentional. Is it really necessary for relatively large public figures in the football world to fawn over Ronaldo at every opportunity, for example? It's not a case of them mentioning these things every single time there's a possibility to. They don't have to mention Giggs' case all the time, and from now on pundits don't have to mention the Greenwood situation whenever they discuss Utd's forward options, but a little more awareness and a sense they're taking these things seriously wouldn't go amiss.

Why has she chosen to post it on social media and not gone to the police. Doesn't change what has allegedly happened to her which is utterly horrific and she has my full sympathy and hope she gets support from the relevant channels. But please press charges for any crimes that *may* have been committed and ensure justice is served rather than looking for a pay day. |

And it's about a 3-year wait from offence to trial for rape in the UK, due to the underfunding of the criminal justice system. [Post edited 30 Jan 2022 16:48]

I'm concerned that, by releasing it on social media, she's made it very easy for Greenwood, or his counsel, to plead not guilty and then claim that he won't get a fair trial because the evidence is in the public domain. I wonder if she went to the police and they said there wasn't enough evidence, hence she has gone down this route? Otherwise I'm concerned the criminal charges might be difficult to make stick.

Looks like Greenwood's career is done. (n/t) on 16:57 - Jan 30 with 1995 views | ITFC1977 | This may not be the most popular view but this is all speculation at the moment and it wasn’t long ago ( there’s a few posts on here about it ) that everybody was outraged with the press/social media coverage of Caroline Flack committing suicide after attacking her BOYFRIEND and the evidence due to be made public. If he does a similar thing, would he get the same treatment? Would everybody condemning him be saying how he was “ taken to young “ etc? I am obviously against any behaviour that has been suggested but the hypocrisy of people trying to say the right thing is nauseating. He was 18 years old, the truth will come out and he will be dealt with. But I hope everybody who is stating he should never play football again etc etc have no history of vilifying social media for the demise of her mental health and the results that occurred.

A lot of people were critical of Flack and the double standards and mental gymnastics from certain corners. Same as today. Her committing suicide was tragic, but your comparison is crass at best even if you are trying to be well meaning. There is also a huge difference with the position of the victims and how both cases came to light. Hopefully Greenwood will get his day in court and such concerns can be addressed. However it’s an incredibly bad take to worry about him and dismiss the victim

The large majority very much forgot her accusations once she took matters into her own hands and my only point is we are at a similar stage now with this, minus the suicide and I think male or female, footballer or presenter people should realise the repercussions of being judge, jury and executioner. Just my view and no real offence intended. And I at no stage dismissed the victim, and if that has been interpreted that way then it was not my meaning. [Post edited 30 Jan 2022 17:22]

Did she rape him too then? Few odd statements from you in this. "but the hypocrisy of people trying to say the right thing is nauseating." Its a little bit odd to use 'but' when talking about rape and domestic abuse. "Caroline Flack committing suicide after attacking her BOYFRIEND and the evidence due to be made public" Odd use of the word 'boyfriend' all in caps. But ultimately, your post boils down to 'girls abuse men too'. Which of course we all know, but is not an excuse for Greenwoods alleged behaviour, Flack, who was already know to suffer with depression and low self-esteem, killed herself after a press witch-hunt, led by Dan fking Wooton, not a football message board; and no, its not the same thing. And that male-on-female violence, especially sexual violence, is so much more prevalent than female-on-male violence that to make such a comparison or attempt to draw equivalence is essentially pointless and insulting to the victim. Some of the views on this thread are strange and depressing.

Only Murder is seen as a more serious offence than Rape and any allegation of Rape has to be recorded and investigated, even if it by someone who had already passed away… even if someone claims they were raped by Casper the ghost, it has to be recorded. Rape and sexual assaults are very much victim led in how the police progress it, not pursuing if victim no longer wants to etc. so I doubt very much that even without the images and voice recordings she would have been told that… though it is a very difficult offence to prove beyond reasonable doubt, which is the burden of proof that police work with. I think, as others have put the modern young adult sees Social Media as the modern day court.. certainly the court of popularity and public opinion

I don't have kids and in some ways I feel harsh making a judgement on her dad but I'd like to think if I was a father and that happened to my child, I'd be wanting the book thrown at him and not trying to make excuses.

Did she rape him too then? Few odd statements from you in this. This hasn’t been proven yet so although you’ve made your mind up, I’m just saying that time will tell and hopefully truth will prevail. "but the hypocrisy of people trying to say the right thing is nauseating." Its a little bit odd to use 'but' when talking about rape and domestic abuse. Not proven, see above. "Caroline Flack committing suicide after attacking her BOYFRIEND and the evidence due to be made public" Odd use of the word 'boyfriend' all in caps. She was his “GIRLFRIEND “ just stating the situation and similarity, not justifying anything. I was making no excuse for his behaviour, far from it, merely making the point that suffering from low self-esteem ( who knows mason isn’t suffering from this) that the same witch-hunt you talk of, is now starting, not just on a football forum ( check all social media if you need clarification) and that other than the sex of each person there are a lot of similarities between the two. Hope this answers your points. To clarify, I don’t agree with any bullying, rape or physical violence by anybody and my point is nothing has been proven yet and although you’ve clearly made your mind up, it was similar people who made there mind up that she was a man beating bla bla bla, that contributed to her unfortunate decisions.
