A couple spring to mind.

One was when you were able to watch training having spent time at Alderman Road, I remember a Mich D'Avray volley driving straight into my face as I was 20 yards away and Bobby Ferguson coming up and saying "You would have been safer stood in goal son"

The other was whilst working at a Bar in town one Monday lunchtime Marcus came in, got chatting about the Tuesday night game against Utd, and I said I would love to go but didn't have a ticket, he said "Here you go, this was supposed to be for the Mother in Law, but I'd rather you take it" Legend.

Chris kiwomya told me to foxtrot oscar outside that bar that used to be at the bottom of the walk - I was probably being a knob. Gary Croft was also in there that night

Me and nabil abadullah pulled a couple of birds on the dance floor in liquid one night, I was more interested talking ITFC with him!

On the subject of Chris Kiwomya, I met him a couple of years ago… it was our General Manager’s leaving do and the guy who ran the employment agency we use came along and brought CK along as he was his mate.
The leaving General Manager facilitated an introduction and I chatted to him for a good half an hour or more about my favourite season ever 1991-92, and ended by saying thank you to him for everything he’d done while playing for us… he responded and saying no, thank you to me… his time ITFC was the best in his career and the players genuinely felt a bond with the supporters, both at home games, the mass away support of the time and in the bars around town. He then bought me a beer and made his excuses and left.

I was trying a suit on in Burton’s and the staff were very politely doing a fitting for ‘Mr Yallop’ in the cubicle next door.

I once followed Sir Bobby through Christchurch park and had Damian Delaney fill up his car on the other side of my petrol pump.

Quite a few over the years to be honest but an odd one is when John Lyall moved up this way from his Essex home near to Theydon Bois he hired me to transport and deliver his large collection of Koi Carp.

He was a genuine old school gentleman.

I had a chat once with Dean Richards (Southampton and Tottenham center half), Marcus Bent and Titus Bramble in Liquid back in the early 2000's. Dean Richards was an absolute unit. He was in Ipswich for a wedding.

Meeting Cole Skuse at the garage near Playford Road, asking for a photo and then struggling for an excruciating 10 seconds as I tried to work out how to switch to the front camera on my new phone.

Superb from Sir Bob. And you can totally picture - and hear - him doing that. We were blessed with a great one.

John Snow, then the England & Sussex fast bowler, refused to sign autographs at Chelmsford until everyone had formed an orderly queue.

Getting into Carlisle about 5 hours before we kicked off in the League Cup. Found a bistro/bar and 5 or 6 players in there. Got talking to Delaney who had been told he could go by Jewell. The Scottish bloke with the mad tatts as well. Basically given up before the game.

Another good tale was when my old man had his Pub and it was the Football team presentation night. My younger brother was behind the bar and a very quiet bloke walked in all suited and booted, proceed to order a soft drink. My brother didn't recognise him and asked if he'd just signed for the Sunday team?

It was Matt Holland and he was there to present the trophies.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Not relating to a player, but in the summer of '78 Town held an open day at FPR (including the FA Cup on display). Fans were allowed to wander around the ground, including the changing rooms, kit room, boardroom, that sort of thing. All the kids, including your truly, were after autographs from the players who were in attendance. Half-way round and I was standing on an indoor 5-a-side astro pitch, which I think was underneath one of the stands. Suddenly SBR appeared and was immediately surrounded by a swathe of jostling children waving autograph sheets etc. To which SBR shouted "No, no, no, I'm not signing anything until you line up here, behind..." [looking around] "...this boy" and he touched me on the shoulder. I felt 10 feet tall. According to my old man, I didn't stop grinning like a cheshire cat for the rest of the day!

I remember that day, there was a huge queue to have your photo with the cup.

Fast forward a few years and before the Cologne semi final me and my mate Abdul - who later defected to support Norwich - thought it would be a laugh to sit in the Cologne dug out. We were in the West stand and we simply hopped over the barrier and sat in there. When the teams came out their staff started shouting at us, Bobby heard the commotion, came over, kicked us out and told us to "Feck off you couple of hooligans'

I was at the London Branch do before the 2000-01 season. The turnout in a room above a pub wasn't large & this tall, athletic guy in a tracksuit walked in. No-one seemed to recognise or acknowledge him so he turned around to the organisers, held out his hand and said "John Scales?"
It was our new signing and guest of honour. Scales wasn't put out by this & was very engaging.

Went football training with John Wark's Sunday side Sophtlogic, only because then girlfriend's brother played for them. Wark must've been 50 by that point but my Christ when he joined in in the game at the end his touch, vision, talking players through the game was ridiculous. Must've been less than 20 minutes but have never ever forgot it. You then wonder just how scary good he would've been in his peak 20s.

The first registered owner of our car, according to the service manual, was George Burley.

You’ll be disappointed to know it’s only a Ford C-Max

I worked for the catering company that were being used for the post play off final party in 2000. I obviously couldn’t work that day as had tickets to the game! After the amazing scenes at Wembley I got dropped off on the way home at the Suffolk Show Ground. I then ‘worked’ all evening for free - getting to serve the players champagne and talk about the game with them. Pretty perfect day as a 15 year old!!

Matt Holland was as nice as I expected and Magilton as lary!!

When Jim Magilton was manager at Town, his son used to play football for our local Saturday morning team. - Jim would be there every time Town were playing at home that day and would stand on the touch line barking orders, giving players in-depth chats, he absolutely loved it.

He knew I was a season ticket holder and asked me for what line-up I’d go for (in the Ipswich game), low and behold, a few hours later, the exact team I had reeled off to Jim Magilton was starting at Portman Road. We won as well.

He also funded a trip for the entire local Saturday team to go to Barcelona for a long weekend and play in a couple of football tournaments, got the lads tracksuits, suitcases, paid for flights and arranged some games at some lovely places.

Top top bloke!

Spent a crowded train journey to London standing in the corridor chatting to Brian Talbot ( then with Arsenal) comparing life with the Gunners v Town . Said he hardly saw their manager (Terry Neill?) whilst Sir Bob ran absolutely everything at Ipswich and knew everyone by name, not necessarily their own!!

Well, it now appears to mean there may be extra visitors in your house on occasions, but that they're not 'an item' because they're just 'talking'...

As a younger person myself, they're most likely shagging.

You're welcome.

Some managers were very "hands on" & effectively were head coach as well, such as SBR. I met Terry Donovan (he played youth football at Grimsby with a mate) & he said when he was at Villa, he wouldn't see Ron Saunders on the training ground all week & Saunders appear in the dressing room at 2:30pm & give this firm, powerful but rather cliched team talk and that was about it.

I overheard George Burley telling a woman to go on the wrong side of the circle line and politely intervened to correct him. Needless to say Burley had to cross over to the other platform to get where he was going.

First time I’d seen him out and about since he was a regular under age drinker in The Falcon

Played blackjack with on the same table as Matty Holland in Port Elizabeth during the 2010 World Cup. He was there working for five live and we were in PE for the Holland v Brazil match. It was 2am and everyone was pretty battered. Was a class few hours sitting next to him talking town (I doubt he would agree).
