Boris vote sweepstake 11:02 - Jun 6 with 4623 viewsbluelagos

359 votes to split for/against Johnson.

I'll predict

Johnson 252
Against 104
Non votes 3

(Which I reckon means he limps on for maybe 6 more months much like May did before they get the knives out for the final kill)

Come on, this is the banter era of not just ITFC but of the UK.

He'll win it 187-172, or 52%-48%...

Just like the Brexit vote. Everything in the UK is now decided 52%-48%, leaving huge chunks of people to whine about the outcome.

I think that guess is pretty accurate.

There are probably about 60 letters in and you’d expect another 40 to vote against him.

A normal PM would probably quit in the next few weeks. This one is not normal.

If he were to lose 52-48% it would be possibly the most beautiful bit of schadenfreude ever :-)

Doesn’t that all depend on the PMs popularity with the country in six months? If by some horrible misfortune he is popular will the parliamentary party still try to get rid of him? Has there every been a party leader, who was popular with country, but deeply unpopular with MPs and ousted?

125 against. which means that the end ought to be nigh.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

How would he suddenly regain popularity in six months time? He's already cashed in Brexit, debased the Covid response and is not making a great fist of being Hero of Ukraine. Adding in local and by-election defeats, plus poor polling, doesn't leave any cards in his hand.

Apart, perhaps, from "swing to the right", which is liable to alienate many people, while only confirming those who already back him.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he loses 165 to 158, with 36 abstentions.

Purely for the purposes of the sweepstake. I don't really think it's all that likely.

Isn't it odd how some Tory MPs are always coming out with what their constituents have told them they want and what they have "heard on the doorstep" and it's a complete 180% from the national mood.

So much for representing us.

What if he makes an announcement that if he wins narrowly he will resign and hand over to Liz Truss...and that will be his default position for the next two years? Got to be worth grabbing back fifty votes from those intending to vote 'no confidence' at the moment, plus all the waverers.

Actually a normal PM wouldn't have broken the law in the first place.

Or at least, wouldn't have been caught doing it.

Possibly worth noting that by lunchtime on the day of the May vote she had the backing of 180 MPs. Boris had 91 at the same milestone. Currently it's 101 MPs backing him.

Probably means nothing but does seem to indicate MPs aren't running to their Twitter accounts to support him at the moment. They might still support him but don't seem to want it out there in the public domain at the moment.

I suspect quite a few had deeply unhappy constituents in their ears at Jubilee parties over the weekend.

My favourites are the ones with sub-5k majorities who still think he's an electoral asset. They're going to get a nasty shock in 2023/4.
