We were saying that when I was a child so yep, that's pretty old. Which shows I suppose on some level the tractor boy things isn't as new as people think. Still, it won't be long before we're known as the Super Blue Socks or something so none of that will matter anymore.

Blackout kit at home!!! on 19:09 - Oct 11 by Strimmer | Well yeah, I do think breaking with 100 years of tradition is a mistake as it happens. And I’d be interested to know what the tangible marketing benefits are that balances the equation |
We were wearing black shorts 100 years ago. http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Ipswich_Town/Ipswich_Town.htm [Post edited 11 Oct 2022 23:15]

Blackout kit at home!!! on 16:56 - Oct 11 by DJR | It's an evening kick-off. Will the players be able to see each other well, with black shirts merging with the dark of the crowd? Remember when Man U wore their grey kit which they changed at half time because Ferguson said they couldn't see each other. |
I reckon they’ll put the floodlights on as it’s a night game Ffs

I realise there will be floodlights but it's just an observation given that, as a cyclist, I would not wear dark colours at night whatever the lighting,

I think you’ve misunderstood the concept of this blackout game. No floodlights. It’ll be like the Hunger Games - each team starts behind their own goal line and then they’ll parachute 6 head torches into the centre circle. It’s then a fight to the death to claim the torches and avoid detection. Our kit will help, but I’m a bit worried about Chaplin as he’s only a little fella.

I now have visions of struggling to watch Ipswich v Derby in the same way I did with the Game of Thrones episode, The Long Night.

Blackout kit at home!!! on 16:54 - Oct 11 by The_Flashing_Smile | You're missing the point. This game is on Sky and thus reaching people all around the world. And v Derby, so a much bigger draw than MK Dons. It's all about eyeballs on the shirt and promoting the club. |
I'm not missing the point, I just don't agree with it. We do have Ed Sheeran plastered across all our other shirts too

Blackout kit at home!!! on 21:27 - Oct 11 by Dyland | Some nifty mental gymnastics there Jerseys. Fans can want the club to be better run but still question or whinge at this one... even though I agree it's not a big deal if it's one or even the odd game here and there. Football is about tradition and tribalism, and the colour your team plays in is a fundamental part of that. Wanting ownership that isn't as disinterested as MEG doesn't mean you aren't attached to football tradition. Tbh I don't give much of a fook. COYFB(lacks) [Post edited 11 Oct 2022 21:41]

Oh I get that. My point is Marcus Evans wouldn't have even thought of getting a cool shirt made that breaks all records and has been as well marketed as this. We had Magical Vegas under him let's not forget! We have people who know what they're doing now and are maximising the potential of this club, as opposed to doing the bare minimum.

Blackout kit at home!!! on 21:40 - Oct 11 by C_HealyIsAPleasure | You are astonished by most things, so that’s not really a surprise. It’s almost like people can both think that things are generally much better now, yet still think some individual decisions are terrible But yes, clap clap clap, can’t wait until stadium naming rights are sold, think of all the money we’ll get, etc etc |
Bit of a leap you're making there. I'd rather clap something that maximises the potential of the club than cry at change like you're doing.

Blackout kit at home!!! on 21:44 - Oct 11 by sotd78 | Football :clubs with solid fan bases gain that support from years of tradition. From grandparents, parents and their children all identifying with their club. Say Old Gold and everyone would say Wolves. Say all red and they'd say Liverpool. Hoops and they'd say Celtic or QPR depending on the colour. Blue shirts, white shorts, and preferably white sleeves and they might say Ipswich. In twenty years if we wear non stop black they'll say .... must be Ipswich. Good luck Gamechanger. Fortunately I'll probably not be around to see it. |
Another ridiculously massive leap.

Blackout kit at home!!! on 21:04 - Oct 11 by The_Flashing_Smile | I'm astonished by that poll. People wanted rid of Evans and people who know how to run a football club brought in instead... then when we get that they're like, oh no we don't want it run like that! |
The two things are in no way related.

It’s the precedent it sets. If its accepted by the support that we don’t mind them changing our colours (even if it is for only one game), what comes next?

Agree with you but that tradition has been disgraced by having played with the Marcus Evans logo on it throughout the years, the person who is responsible for the decline of the club. [Post edited 12 Oct 2022 16:00]

Interesting to hear Terry Butcher on Life's A Pitch say he had doubts about using the dark kit in a night match because of the same visibility problems I mentioned. Bet you daren't say to him, FFS

What comes next? Well I’ve heard that the last home game before Christmas the team will be wearing blue Santa hats. Anyone that wears a black Santa hat with ‘ bah humbug’ on it is a knob. [Post edited 18 Oct 2022 9:18]
