Others have said that you're reading too much into recent games and that has merit. We are still second even now, not losing many, playing brilliant football.
However, there are some worrying themes coming up over and over and are costing us wins that have turned into draws. I'd rather we're harsh on ourselves now and stop them keep happening or even worse turning into losses.
That said, I'm confident that McKenna & co will already be poring over this with a fine comb and hopefully cone up with the answers quickly. Our form isn't disastrous by any stretch, but as you and others have said, it won't get us promotion.
I think it’s a fair OP. It’s just reaffirms what we all know, which is that we’ve dropped of the pace and need to stop dropping as many points if we want to go up automatically (which ideally we do - don’t want to be in the PO lottery if we’re good enough not to be).
It’s only fair if the only context you’re applying to your conclusions are the league table and the final score. If you’ve watched the games and scratch beneath the surface beyond the score line then there’s a lot of reasons to believe we’re a very, very good side at this level. Taking ‘form’ over 6 or 12 games is meaningless, again without any context. The fact is we’re 2nd in the league, we’re averaging over 2 points per game, we’ve been away to the sides in first & 3rd and still have 28 games left. Even the recent games that haven’t yielded maximum points have seen some comprehensive performances that on another day would have done. It’s chalk and cheese vs the Lambert era.
You said at the beginning of the campaign that we would walk this season. Top two was a given.
I warned of managing expectations saying that come the inevitable 'blip' some fans would be immediately negative and that rationality would go out of the window.
You and A.N.Other tried to rubbish me for saying it. And yet here we are, already, so soon.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
Monday morning and the first thread I read is this ...Christ Alive man !!!
We're still 2nd right even with a blip ? We've still got just over half the season to go right ? We've got January transfer window on the horizon right ? We've got arguably one of the best if not THE best squad in League 1 right ? etc etc etc
Though it is if we want to finish in the top two - dependent who is second, of course!
Saying that, every team will go through a blip at some point. I would like to see McKenna ditch the Woolfenden-Edmundson partnership at the back, accept the Harness-Chaplin combination is not working and get out of the rut of waiting until the 65th before consistently repeating the trick of replacing attacking players rather than using the direction of the game and form to influence his choices.
KMK reckons thats possibly the best weve played in his time here Not bad for a 'blip' I get what youre saying - we do need to be more clinical and manage games better but our overall performances are fine

There is a pattern starting to form though which I hope we can shake off as Lincoln was a freak, Cheltenham is also a freak.
We should have had at least 7 points from those 3 games and we have 2.
For a style which doesn't rely on the 9 to score all the goals, it needs much more from those behind him
Chaplin 0 in 12 harness 1 in 12 burns 2 in 12 jackson 1 in 12 edwards ( 2 in cup, 0 in league ) JJ now injured
TBH it doesn't matter if we won every game 1-0 with a defender scoring the goal. But with defensive weakness apparent, we need much better from those up the top end of the pitch.

… which has the Cheltenham commentary on
And you’ll see 6 superb chances carved out
That involves a post and 3 remarkable blocks in quick succession and that’s just 2 of the chances
The commentators are screaming gleefully at the defensive heroics
We won’t draw many games like that this season it was a freak
Not sure about that. Every game we drop points it’s “9/10 we win that game, just one of those days” and yet it happens a lot more than 1/10. We have an efficiency issue, both in terms of putting chances away and conceding from our opponents only chance in the game.
Definitely not panic stations yet but there are some signs to be concerned about.
You've shown us another metric that demonstrates we could be on for a 100+ point promotion campaign
Well... not if the blip carries on. No it won't be.
I'd feel more confident that we will turn this around quickly if we had some players out who were back next week, but we don't. Our injury problems have got worse. And we still don't appear any closer to solving the defensive weaknesses that have been obvious.
But it's OK. I'll just sit and happy clap through the weeks ahead like a good sheep.
I've pointed out in other posts that our defensive performance hasn't been up to standard recently. So I'm not a "sheep". I'm also not on the other side of the fence being a baby.
We have a choice as supporters. We can support the team when things aren't going our way and give that extra sense of belief. Or we can refuse to support and add to the pressure, encouraging disbelief.
The real reason you don't commit to supporting the team and manager is because you got burnt backing Cook. You've mentioned many times that it is the reason you have been overtly negative at times. It is time to move on and get behind the team.

I said the minimum expectation due to resources has to be top 2.. anything less is a failure. This isn't the 90s where managers you get year on year support regardless of failures.
How are we in the realm of failure?
Perspective - We are 2nd - We've lost two in 18 - We've attained 11 points in our last 6 games. 17 from our last 8 games. This is automatic promotion form.

You're going back to last season when I was being overly negative and I said at that time I wasn't going to be sacked into blindly following.
This season I've enjoyed most weeks and posted I believe quite open and positive views other than personal opinions on a couple of player performances. Overall though I've been quite positive on the manager etc.
In regards to the sheep comment. That's not directly at you personally, more the usual group who refuse to accept an alternative view which doesn't fall in line with their chosen way of following the club and the usual snide remarks follow.
End of day. We all want promotion. Imo it's a minimum requirement. At present the form isn't great. There are lots of negatives which I hope we overcome. If we don't.. then what? We just carry on ignoring it? That's fine if you wish to do so. But there will be plenty who feel we shouldn't be having the problems we are having with the resources we have.

Except its not automatic promotion form as we are 6th in that form table.
Just because they appear to be great figures. It need not be forgotten there are other teams in this league. 1 of them 1 point behind us and actually in that automatic promotion form that you speak of.
IF we can turn these draws into wins. Then we won't have anything to worry about which will be great.

The difference only a month ago was that we found a way to beat certain sides. That at the time gave confidence that we could maintain our form and go one better than lamberts start and maintain a top 2 place over the course of the season. We have however shown a big weakness and the answer doesn't appear to be coming through anytime soon and that's the worry.
Games like yesterday. Very pleasing on the eye. No one. Including myself has said yesterday wasn't good football. But we still dropped 2 points only a week after doing the same in even worse circumstances.
If we get back on a run or even just show we've overcome the obvious weaknesses then there's plenty to trust the management on to get us up... but until then the trust on matchday isn't there for me as it was only a month or two ago.
