Or did the former executives legally pressure him into buying a turkey so they could offload their shares and flee with likely generous severance packages? Either way, Musk has made a pigs ear of this.

Could be. I’ve read he basically made the offer while drunk and maybe not seriously. And they were aggressive in getting him to stick to it. But that’s about the limit of my knowledge (and the first bit may not be true). Whatever the case, he’s made a right mess indeed. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke.

His work at Twitter seems to be firing everyone who bruises his ego and then tweeting about how wonderful everything is. Must be hard work being a CEO, especially when you are the CEO of three companies. Must be doing 12 hour days at all of them.

Yeah, if I were an investor in his space or car businesses, I;d be properly worried about how much time this is all taking from his working day. (Realise that wasn't quite your point). What's your best guess as how this pans out? Is he even trying to cull costs, cull present Twitter, with an eye on building something else? Is that even possible with a quarter of the staff?

I don't think there's any doubt that he tried to back away from the purchase and was forced to complete through the legal process. If it's all part of some masterplan then he made the first bit very over-elaborate.

I still think think there's more than a kernel of truth in the tweet I saw shortly after he took over that his aim is to wreck twitter - motive being that contrary to the opinion of some on here, it's a platform that overall is more hostile to right wing politics than left, and in particular overall is hugely hostile to large global corps, far-right politics, and fascism.

$44bn suggests he has a degree of motivation beyond that of most people's comprehension. If it was true, he could have killed it with enormous bot farms and other tech attacks for a fraction of the cost.

And the mess at Twitter is tanking the value of Tesla too. Shame. Whatever he's doing, he is $44bn down on the Twitter deal and a lot of that was borrowed wasn't it?

Well, he's fired by the looks of things between 70-80% of his employees, a lot of which are engineers. Something that runs across the planet will need fairly constant maintenance and that's going to be immediately hit. I doubt it will be a doomsday scenario but I'd imagine things will start creaking. The bigger loss in my mind is domain knowledge. You will have lost a staggering amount of domain knowledge experts with little to no handover time. You will have trashed the hierarchy that was in place leaving a lot of projects in complete limbo or just completely abandoned. The reputation will now mean that Twitter will only be able to hire a very select amount of people as most developers will not want to work there. I don't see how this can pan out in any way other than bad. Because it was a leveraged buy out he's lumbered Twitter with massive interest payments they could not hope to meet. I think it was something like they now have yearly interest payments of over $1billion up from $50mil or something along those lines. Meanwhile advertisers, their biggest revenue stream, are probably looking at this dumpster fire and him posting memes all day and pulling out. Why would you want your company to be associated with this? As to why he's done this, I have absolutely no clue. Ego? He was high?

Not sure of the precise details, but there are some funnies in there. I've read that both the owners of Newcastle Utd and Jack Dorsey both rolled their stock over. There was about $13 billion in borrowings - one presumes that these are secured on Musks other assets (Tesla & Space X stock).

Could be some kind of breakdown on his part. Anyway, interesting thoughts - cheers and like you say, who would go work there now, bar the desperate or under-qualified? (I'm preparing my application...)

This is one myth that needs to be stamped out. Mush might claim to work 100 hours a week or whatever BS he comes out with his his 'work' is nothing like the work of a standard worker. It really pisses me off to see people in his position pretend it's the same thing. No doubt some of what he does is very taxing but he does not work flat out 100 hours a week I really don't care what he says. He treats people like sh1t. I would love to see him go bankrupt (yes, I know he won't and SpaceX could go public and he would make a fortune etc etc).
