Whittaker 20:20 - Dec 30 with 22303 views | Bowls1e | As has been widely mooted he’s going to be recalled by Swansea in the next day with Derby & us bidding for him. Argyle have tried to keep him but can’t compete financially. I know it’s been rumoured of our interest but this has come from a contact at Plymouth end. Apologies if wrong & I’m not trying to be a def info merchant, but if true then our intent is clear. Believe he’s played for Derby before but could McKenna & Ashton tempt him here.

Maybe, I'm just guessing like everyone else and trying to look at it from the players perspective, he's over that way, seems strange to risk coming over here where he may not settle(you know how that doesn't always work)quickly risking what he has now.. But, you never know...

Whittaker on 21:33 - Dec 30 by strikalite | Can't see him coming here, at the moment he's playing well scoring goals and has an easy M5 then M4 journey back home to his family, why on earth would he venture over to Suffolk mid season leaving family over in Wales? The bigger picture and all that.. |

Footballers tend to be a bit more nomadic than that. It goes with the job. Location is not generally high on their tick list.

But as a short term loan? When he's banging in goals where he is too? If he carries on and takes Plymouth up then he'll have a lot of options anyway..

Think it would certainly cost us, especially in January, but yeah with Ashton it's possible I guess..

We will definitely be buying and spending. The SCMP rules make it far easier to strengthen now than in the summer of 23 (IF we get promoted). | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Talking of loan recalls and weakening the opposition. Can we have Mark Mcguiness….on loan at Sheff wed with a January recall back to skint Cardiff. Permanent signing would be nice.

His family live in the next village to me near Lincoln...he played two years up for the same U15 team as my lad when he was 13 and was a class above even back then....afaik he has no ties to Swansea, he was on loan at Lincoln last season so east of the country not an issue to him it seems.
Whittaker on 08:55 - Dec 31 with 2856 views | portmanking | It's also worth noting we're still owed the best part of 1.5m from Swansea for the Downes deal. It could well be that most of this is written off to sign Whittaker. Certainly a strong bargaining chip.

In what way? I thought the rules for L1 and L2 were more restrictive that those in the Championship and that we would have more scope to spend if we got promoted? I've not actively researched this though so some clarity would be appreciated. SB
I just don't see it on 09:46 - Dec 31 with 2623 views | Dyland | Any other examples of players changing loan clubs mid season, and going to a rival of the original, and a rival lower in the league to boot.... A lot of fixating on Pilgrims loans. All a bit Stockholm Syndrome innit. Let's concentrate on ourselves. We can strengthen more than Argyle and I'm guessing there are other players available than their loanees :) EDIT: Swans don't need the cash we could pay re all the wages, presumably. Nor Norwich. Only reason to recall would be them featuring in their parent clubs' first team squads for rest of the season. [Post edited 31 Dec 2022 9:48]

I think we can effectively spend what we want in L1 and L2 whereas in the Championship it’s marked off against a set figure over 3 years I think 39mill.

With SCMP the owners could simply pump more cash/equity into the club to meet the requirements. With FFP it's directly linked to revenue and doesn't include additional investment/equity.

Exactly. This is a great time to add a championship quality player or two - if we can attract them.
Whittaker on 10:54 - Dec 31 with 2226 views | ITFC_Josh | Turns out the person who runs the Plymouth forum has deleted the post and says that it’s not true, so guess that ends that rumour then 😂
Whittaker on 10:58 - Dec 31 with 2193 views | tractorboy1978 | If you were Swansea, I don't know why you'd sell him at this point in time. Makes little sense.
Whittaker on 11:06 - Dec 31 with 2117 views | tractordownsouth | I don't understand this from Swansea's perspective. Is it worth disrupting a successful loan just to get an extra couple of grand a week for 6 months? Or why would they be willing to sell him when he's shown he's up to Championship standards and is young enough to potentially be worth 7 figures in a few years?
| |
Whittaker on 11:08 - Dec 31 with 2081 views | Metal_Hacker | Unless it’s a purchase there’s no way I can see him coming here A few grand a month isn’t gonna interest Swansea if we pay all or a higher percentage of wages Would love him here. Lovely player but …… I’ll gladly have Keane ,Twine on loan (I wish ) and JCH
