And there still isn't the slightest similarity! Keep digging.

Connor Wickham leaves FGR as contract expires on 13:26 - Jan 3 by BigCommon | Don't think he set the world on fire at MKD last season under Manning.Who, arguably, played a similar style to ours. Also, with us having signed one or two "crocks" in the Summer. Should we be gambling on a player with a history of injuries? Some will say he's played half a season injury free. Some will say he's due one? I'm on the fence. We definitely need a striker reinforcement/option. I'd have him down as an end of window possible, rather than a must sign. |
On a 6 month contract, with 12 more on promotion and games played? I don't see the risk, myself.

Feel free to add why you don't think there is Both players aren't that of an athletic forward. Both are in the box forwards looking to get on the end of balls into the box. What's so different about them? I'm happy to be told. I genuinely don't know why they are so different based on how I see Wickham as a player now.

Eh? Norwood not athletic? I know he was a bit of a porker at times, but in general the only thing Norwood was halfway decent at was running around and chucking himself at the nearest defender before limping away with a wink in his eye after winning a free kick. Are you sure you've spent the last few years watching Ipswich Town and not Ipswich Wanderers?

Tbh spruce anyone who walks onto a pitch should have the ability to run a bit. Kinda part of the job don't you think. I suppose I used the wrong terminology. I was referring to a Jackson type. ( pacey striker)

Connor Wickham leaves FGR as contract expires on 12:05 - Jan 3 by itfcjoe | Spoke to an FGR fan and he said he's been excellent - lacks mobility so can't press well but his hold up play is fantastic and he is razor sharp in the box. With the way we play, and the amount of the ball we have - holding it up well and finishing well could be a great fit |
That first part of the first sentence sounds like Ladapo, except he isn’t razor sharp in the box, it’s a big no no from me I’m afraid

Agreed. Based on his conversion rate he is what we need if he's fit. Get him and Luongo/Taylor in. I think we'll spend on 1-2 as well to try and get over the line.

Seems like a good deal to me, might work might not, but with Jackson not scoring, John Jules injured and Ladapo inconsistent it seems like a good deal to get him back. He'll be popular with the fans and maybe that'll motivate him to be at his best

Connor Wickham leaves FGR as contract expires on 12:55 - Jan 3 by FrimleyBlue | Genuine question. Did we let norwood go because of footballing reasons or for money & attitude reasons? As i can't see with Wickhams lack of mobility now.. how he's different to what KM allowed to leave.. |
My feeling is that if KMc could have had it his way he'd have kept Norwood, he was the only striker last season that got anything close to a run of games under him. Based on football alone and the contribution he'd offer it would have been the right decision. In the end too much had gone on for him to stay, though.

Connor Wickham leaves FGR as contract expires on 15:52 - Jan 3 with 2239 views | Metal_Hacker | I think on a 6 month basis for sure - proportionately low risk and low cost with potential add ons for goals scored to bulk up his earnings maybe If he's as mobile as Freddie but with a better conversion rate , it's a no brainer Wickham , Taylor ,AN Other Striker and perhaps some cover on the right hand side to freshen things up I'd be happy

Considering how many changes we create per match do we need someone to hold the ball up? Or do we need a fox-in-the-box type of striker who can get on the end of crosses and make space in the area.

Lacking mobility and being razor sharp in the box don't seem to go hand in hand! And with our crossing inaccuracy, he can't just rely on the ball coming to him. [Post edited 3 Jan 2023 17:05]

If there's a spare squad place and he stayed fit, then that would work, perhaps as a bench option? I've never regarded him as prolific, tbh.. "A scorer of great goals, but not a great goalscorer", as the saying goes..

A 6'3ft target man with technical ability beyond this league who can finish. What about that sounds like Norwood to you?

Interesting view of wickham imo. Think quite a few view him with 2011 eyes. 26 goals in 10 years. Just 1 more goal than norwood this season.

So you agree he is a step up on Ladapo and you don't want us to sign him? Hmm. I wonder which 2 or 3 players you are expecting to get in to play ahead of Ladapo instead of Wickham as an option.

It's a no brainer Frimmers, Cheltenham at home, cast your mind back, 15 minutes to go, we brought on Burgess to play upfront as a target man, not for mobility, not to press, just as another option, a target when all else has failed.....isnt that perfect for Wickham?

Possibly yes. But didn't that FGR fan say he's been injured again for the past few weeks. Surely there is someone capable of that role who isn't such an injury risk?

Left out of the squad for their last 4 matches. Not reported as injured. Possible Forest Green were playing players they knew they would have available after December. The fact they lost all 4 of those matches scoring just twice makes you wonder whether they should have been playing him, though.

Is he injured? Didn't see that, say it's nothing serious, I'm not saying as the main striker we desperately need, just an experienced lump off the bench when teams are camped.. It's January after all, hard to get exactly what you need, he's free, it's not even a gamble imo
