Striker! I had completely forgotten about that one. You had to get the ball under the player's foot then press the head. A great game, although after a while the heads wouldn't press down (or perhaps we had the dodgy, back of a lorry, version).
Although it was always subbuteo for me. We had a competition when I was at junior school and I won. My reward was to play the PE teacher. We had about 30/40 boys crammed around the biggest table, cheering me on. The cheering each time I scored (I won 3-1) made me feel like I was playing at Wembley. It was the year after Ipswich won the cup in '78 and when I scored the first goal, someone shouted out "Osborne, 1-0"!
I've got a really good version of striker which is based around set pieces and competing against each other in a league table to win the game. Movement of the individual players is brilliant especially the goalkeeper

Sure Shot Hockey, which was an ice hockey version of table football. Probably circa 1970 ish. Got so much usage it broke and never got another one.
A Rayleigh Chopper bicycle if that counts as a toy. Again, it broke beyond repair and my folks got me a "sensible" cycle as a replacement.
As a sidenote, my first pair of football boots were ankle high, leather uppers, with nailed in studs and were given to me by an older lad down the street. Uncomfortable as hell, but ok for kicking the old heavy laced up footballs of the time.
were the boots good for a reducer as well?

I loved Subbuteo cricket. Football version wound me up because we had a bumpy carpet but I got over that by getting a small pool table and played it on that - which also resulted in less player fatalities.
For me though it would be a football game where we pushed the heads down to make their heads kick i I think it was called Striker?
It was Striker only 5 a side but great fun. Honorable mention to Crossfire where you fired ball bearings at a little puck thing made up of a larger ball bearing with a plastic surround.

Evel Kneival Stunt Cycle
We had one of those donated at a Bring & Buy sale at my former parish in the late seventies.
I say my former parish, as I was rather mercilessly hounded out of my tenure there after attempting to announce said item as second prize in the tombola, won by Lady Spettigue, His Grace the Archbishop's maiden aunt.
There veritably is only one Sticky Mockwell, don't you know.

Chasing other kids around the estate with a sh1tty stick was always one of my favourites. Not sure it's as popular nowadays
ha ha! reminds me of the time some kid was picking on me on the way home from school one day. He was pushing me around so I looked for the nearest thing on the ground to throw at him, which happened to a be a crusty white dog poo. I picked it up and chucked at him. Can tell you that kid never tried to pick on me again!

Supreme. Nobody likes having dog poo launched at um. Especially not the rarer (semi mythical) white variety.

This would have been late 70s/early 80s when white dog poo was still abundant.
A great anti-bullying deterrent for sure!
Yer, most of my memories of sh1tty stick (that was the classic games name) come from around that time. Kids amusing themselves with dog sh1te was definitely more common in those days. You can keep yer PlayStations and xbox,s, just give me some dog sh1te, a stick and some other kids to chase. Should start a new thread on the craic that was had in the 70,s and 80,s with dog poo.

We used to put bangers in dog sh1t. Great fun as long as you weren’t too close when they exploded.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

Absolute genius Stoches. Has a young un dog sh1te and fireworks were 2 of my favourite ways of amusing myself. Can't believe we never thought to mix the 2

Fun with fireworks too. Lob a banger or better a jumping Jack at a bus queue and entertaining mayhem ensued.
I’m probably going to hell for that. Oh well.
I remember going round with rockets and a milk bottle using it as a mobile rocket launcher to launch at other kids. Packed that in when a rocket whizzed inches past the head of a girl I liked. Wasn't even aiming at her but the rockets were a bit unpredictable. Blew any chance I may have had with her in that moment anyway!

I never got into subbuteo, you always had that crease in the pitch from where it had been folded that sent the ball off course. I had a similar thing where the little players were magnetic so the ball stuck to them, again never really worked as a concept for me.
I was probably more gamer generation though, Ultimate Soccer Manager, Championship Manager & FIFA boy I spent a lot of time playing them.
If I had to choose a non tech game I would go for a super soaker, got fond memories of water fights as a kid on balmy summer evenings.
My dad nailed my subbuteo pitch to a wooden board which avoided the crease problem and meant it could be plonked straight onto any surface to play, it worked a great
Used to also have the scoreboard which came with little cardboard strips to put in for every team down to Conference level (plus a load of European ones), and the FA Cup trophy. I have fond memories of me and a mate drawing out imaginary FA Cups, rolling dice for the score and then acting out the imagined goals with the subbuteo players, which sounds the saddest thing ever now but for this c8 year old in the 90’s seemed like the most fun ever

The milk bottle was the default launch platform for rockets.
Tying bangers up in threes and lighting them at the same time before lobbing them at somebody always got good results.

I have a set of Waddngton's Formula One I bought off eBay!!
who else had this
I did! Brilliant game. You can play against somebody else or actually you can have fun on your own.
I’d use real teams (e.g.Eng v Aus) or much more fun, make up my own scorecards. An example might be dictators Vs painters so you could have a line that read:
A Hitler, Bowled J Constable, runs: 28. In bat V T Impaler and Saladin.
