I saw that Stuart Webber has angered the budgies for a number of reasons with his interviews (divorced dads hurling abuse at him etc). One thing I’ve seen is his almost contempt for their women’s side. He said he only recently found out they had one, he has zero interest in it, it’s of really poor quality and he has only allowed them to play at Carrow Road as a favour. Obviously he can have an opinion, but it was bizarre as the journo steered the question as ‘how can the women’s team continue making great progress’.

It’s a small thing, you might argue, but summarises how different our clubs are now. McKenna, Ashton and players regularly go to watch the women. The women’s team watch us at home. TWTD does match reports, Blue Monday does news/previews and KoA has its own ITFC women weekly episode. Our owners have also said that ITFC women is a big part of their future plan here.

It just seems bizarre he’s head of the club and the community and talking about how rubbish it is and that it’s essentially a waste of time and resources.

But there is a difference between franz-tyson saying it on TWTD and the Sporting Director of one of the 25(?) biggest clubs in the country saying it.

Any decent communicator can accentuate the positives of the fastest growing sport in the country, how it can be important for their future, how they aim to help grow it etc wihtout going - I like Flo and she seems to like it so I'll help, but I think the product is rubbish so won't be bothering with it myself. How do you think that makes all those trying so hard, mostly for free (inclduign all the players) feel about that? There are so many campaigns to help push it, and the very least the fans of Norwich City should expect is for the main man at their club to at least be able to toe what should be the company line

Listen to how Mark Ashton, or Kieran McKenna talk about it - always with the greatest respect - do we think KM is sitting there watching WSL games in the evening? Probably not but he shows Joe Sheehan, his staff, the players and the club respect.

Hell, if we had someone as good as Lauren Hemp come through our club, Mark Ashton would have her here walking round PR with the Euros trophy as a triumphant Lioness.

It's sad, and people need to separate the "that is his opinion and who cares" view from "he is representing a big club and it simply isn't good enough"

Yes, you're right... which makes me think he's deliberately trying to get paid off. These are not words of a Sporting Director.

He's been there years - has he been making these gaffes all the time? It just seems like he doesn't give a sh1t anymore.

Yeah, it's almost like we're now a proper community club with history (and a history of silverware) who are all currently pulling in the same direction and on an upward curve, and they're a tinpot shambles of participants who have been punching above their weight for seasons off the back of parachute payments...

It's incredible really, and so patronising to them.

I get not everyone likes women's football, that is obviously ok - but this isn't Stuart Webber saying this to mates down the pub - this is Stuart Webber, Sporting Director of Norwich City speaking on official club business.

“That was the first women’s game I’ve been to because it’s not an interest to me. I don’t mind admitting that,” he said. “I love working with Flo (Allen, the general manager of Norwich City Women) and helping her, but that’s because it’s Flo.

“Women’s football, I do not watch it. It’s of zero interest to me in terms of on the telly because I watch enough men’s football and if I’m not watching that, I want to watch other sports. It’s a choice which I think should be OK.”

You listen and read his interview, and he comes across as such a nob.

To me it is very reminiscent of the end of Mick McCarthy's reign - objectively he is doing a good job, punching above budgetary constraints etc - but both Mick and Webber truly belive(d) that the club is lucky to have them, that they are answerable to nobody and that if people don't like it they can lump it.

Took weird Alan Partridge vibes at the end as well:
“All the stick I’ve got this last week, brilliant,” he said. “I’d rather it be aimed at me than other people. I don’t mind being a human shield because I don’t need to be walking around the city having selfies.

“I’ve been in the city centre three times in my life, two of them to feed homeless people.

“As we know, the abuse towards people like me is completely OK because I’m in a privileged position. Obviously, abuse towards a black person or a woman is not OK. I’ve got my head round that and I’m completely cool with that.”

I’m glad our woman’s team is regarded equally ( within the bounds of gender / strength differences) and taken seriously at ITFC . It’s as well to note that the women’s game in USA is taken very seriously and is a big sport in a nation that has not historically favoured “ soccer”. So well done ITFC and shame on “ that lot up the rood”

Yeah, as Joe has excellently put it, it's about who he is and not what he thinks. He wasn't asked for his opinion of women's football or NCFC Women FC. It was quite a loaded question about how do NCFC continue the good work put into the women's team and he's turned it into his opinion that the product is really poor and that he's being charitable letting these women play in the football stadium of the club they represent.

Webber could have said we continue to watch it grow/we're proud of what they've achieved/it's still early but there are positive signs...

Let's hope that little chunks like this continue to fall as the place crumbles

Brave move, unless he is expecting a pay off big enough not to need to work again.

Who would be daft enough to employ him after that??

He mentions in the interview how he has very little time left with norwich. I would suggest that after the last couple of seasons and these comments that time won't stretch much beyond August.

Cancel culture is a terrible thing. It removes free expression and erases history. We have to be comfortable that old can coexist with new with an understanding of changes of culture and understanding altering what is socially acceptable. Some of what webber has said here however isn't socially acceptable for a community club in today's society for someone that acts as the sporting director. As Joe has pointed out, this isn't a conversation with mates down the pub it's a public address to fans.

If I was a Norwich fan right now I would be pretty worried about where the club was headed. Years of stagnation are no fun, we can attest to that pretty well.

A few controversial comments regarding the women's team and 'divorcees in the snakepit will not ruin his career' probably masks the fact they've just finished 13th with the highest wage bill in the Championship.

If they can’t really afford the resources needed to run the women’s team they are in Dire straits financially.

Parachute payments end after the upcoming season. Promotion or bust!

Again! Will they fall on the right side of luck yet again and get promoted when all seems doomed? Probably.

Given that, apparently, he'd already handed in his notice at this point, and has been working a 12-month notice period since March, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's trying to engineer an early departure and a new role elsewhere.

"Constructive dismissal" is when your employer makes your working conditions impossible and you're left with no other option but to resign. It's a form of unfair dismissal you might claim at an industrial tribunal.

Don't think there's a specific phrase for provoking your employer into summarily firing you to avoid serving your notice...
