I think it’s a totally fair sentence and, with increasing issues like this at present, sets a good example of what to expect.

When annoyed you can be forgiven for instantly shouting or gesturing a little too much, but spitting is a level above for me. Zero sympathy for the guy.

Not in the slightest.

Disgusting act, which put the player at risk of contracting anything that the chap may have been infected with.

No excuse for it whatsoever, and the ban sends the message that there will be zero tolerance for the kinds of behaviour that people seem to think is acceptable these days because it's within a football stadium.

I have to disagree on this one. If it was my club, I’d want him banned for a lot longer than that. It was an absolutely disgusting thing to do. People of that age who do that kind of thing are beyond learning.

He knew exactly what he was doing but thought he’d get away with it. Doubt it’s the first time either.

I agree with you there. Hopefully PUFC will look to add a more Peterborough-centric ban alongside the general banning order.

One moment of utter stupidity is going to cost him three years of watching his team. I wonder how he feels now.

Entirely appropriate ban IMO.

Truly impaired.

In the era of Covid (which has not gone away, despite the media losing interest), spitting at someone could have pretty serious consequences.

He's 45 years old, he knows it's wrong to spit at players. This ban will (presumably) teach him the obvious lesson.

If even a couple kids read about this ban and decide that that type of behaviour gets heavily banned then it’s fully justified.

He’s a bloke in his mid-forties, if at that age he needs educating that spitting at someone is wrong then that says a lot about him as an individual.

As a paramedic who has been spat at several times, I can promise you, there's nothing more insulting or vile. The guy should be banned for life, imo.

In the eyes of the law, spitting is seen as assault which carries a potential custodial sentence. It's a disgusting habit which carries with it the risk of transmission of all sorts of nasty things from common cold all the way up to hepatitis B.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

You don't need an education course to know not to spit at someone.

They clearly don't want him in the stadium, why would they? There probably just isn't scope to ban him for life.

I'm always sceptical as to how these are enforced though, are we saying he couldn't go in someone else's ticket if he tried?

45. Looks at least 55, but that’s by the by. There seem to be a lot of people these days behaving like dicks who are old enough to know better. Was it always like this?

I agree. Didn't a couple of our own esteemed posters get five year bans for falling over the adverts at N*rwich? I know which I consider the more serious offence.

I'm still not sure whether the spit landed or not to know the answer. I think spitting at and spitting on are both punishable, but i think one is worse than the other. Similar to throwing a punch or landing a punch, it's not really assault if you swing and miss.
