Mainly on OwlStalk and local press comments.

Worth a punt?

Seems he has a year left on his contract.

You do realise Woolfenden is our number 6?

The one who has kept all the best forwards in the league quiet all season, winning his physical battles and also not being outpaced all season by anyone? Reads the game excellently and puts the after burners on when needed

Wolfy is a future prem centre back.
If he can maintain his concentration levels that he showed over the past 6 months.

He's had a tendency to float through games sometimes and as he said himself he's quite laid back and I think this showed at times during games where he would make errors purely down to level of concentration.

There's isn't really a ball playing cb outside the prem that you'd need to buy over wolfy imo.

Burgess and Edmundson are the tough ones.
Solid enough for regular league 1 footy. Championship strikers each week I'm not sure.

a niche perspective

l can see you have gotten a lot of stick for this post. l tend to agree with you though. l think our defence could struggle. Burgess will be out of his depth. Edmundson has never convinced me and with Wolfy you still worry that his laid back approach will do for him in the Championship. Id like to see 2 seasoned professionals like Keogh but younger who have that Championship/Premiership nous about them.

Blimey.

This thread's a real testament to some football fans landing on an opinion about a player and never ever changing it come what may.

"Woolfenden's poor in the air, too laid back, gets out-muscled". Have I stumbled into a time machine? Is it 2020 again?

Not upset, just entirely baffled as to how someone could have watched us this season and concluded that Woolf isn't good enough for us. Thankfully I can't see McKenna reaching the same conclusion as you.

Personally I don't disagree with Arnie's sentiment. People need to realise that we are in the Championship now, of course he was good enough for us in league one last year nobody would disagree with that. But there is real potential that his frailties are going to be exposed for all to see, which are defensively a lack of pace and lapses in concentration/positioning. He's great when we've got 90% of the ball!

Madness, you've literally highlighted two of his biggest strengths.

I'm happy to discuss opinions, but as mentioned by two others (who I don't always agree with) you've highlighted two of his stronger attributes as being his weaknesses.

We all know the Champ' is going to be tougher, so you will get forwards with better pace attributes and subsequently we will likely concede more goals, but that's the nature of moving up in quality.

We just need to score more and concede less than our opponents still, the margins will be tighter, we won't go on runs like last year without conceding and scoring 3 or 4 each game.

We will be competitive, our players won't look as exceptional because the opponents are better, but are they good enough to take a step up, certainly.

Can we improve on players, certainly, but none of us really know what will need to change, so a bit of patience for the first few months will be key.

Impressive really that I can see Frimers, Chico, Dollers and the Piggot Weirdo on the same page but yet Arnie's managed to make the stupidest point on it.

Bit rich coming from the person who posted this baffling nonsense: "I'm not sure 'thats different because it was us and I'm upset because people are enjoying themselves' is a wholly sturdy defence mate."

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It's fine to have your opinion of course but what would be more sensible Shirley in your scenario would be to have these as backup rather than selling as we need 2 for every position. I do think we'll boost the defense but whether they become first choice remains to be seen.

Not going to lie, I had big reservations about Wolfy and didn't think he'd still be here when we began our journey back upwards, similar to Arnie.

However, after this season the only thing I think he has to worry about next season is his barnet, that is terrible, on the pitch I think he'll flourish in spite of that.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I’m going to take a guess that those who don’t think Woolf is good enough at defending are the same people that moan and shout at CW when he doesn’t boot it into row Z as soon as there’s the slightest bit of pressure.
