So to clarify… JM was pissed off at a ref being sht. A fan chucked a table that didn’t hit the ref It didn’t hit any other traveller The policman stopped it with absolute ease JM is getting blamed for all this for airing his views But someone sat on a computer, posting on a forum is offended by it? –––- Had a town fan done the same to the ref after the Oxford game when KM made his feelings known would he be at fault? Or the idiot fan?

Did KM wait for the ref in the car park and verbally abuse him? I don't remember there being any reports of that to be honest.

Huh. I mean there is clearly a massive difference between Mckenna speaking fairly calmly in a press conference and Jose going to the referees car and shouting all sorts of expletives at him and calling him a crook. Those two things arent in any way comparable. [Post edited 2 Jun 2023 10:26]

Absolutely. It is also relevant that anyone actually applying the laws of the game could not reasonably say the ref got the penalty shout wrong. Not intentional. Not making body bigger. Arms in natural position. No movement towards ball and ball hit at speed from close range. It was the right decision. Even if it wasn't, it's not a clear error such that var should be involved.

If he had, would anyone have thought about lobbing a chair or table at the ref? Idiot fans don’t need excuses for their behaviour, they’ll act like that regardless. I can’t see how this falls on JM personally.

If JM was acted like a reasonable man during the match, was gracious in defeat and told his players to behave then those fans probably wouldn’t have acted like they did.

What action will UEFA take? - a one match touchline ban for JM and a little fine to the club. Referees also need to clamp down on dissent with red cards - it's all in the rules. |
Well... JM has always behaved like a narcissistic childish tool, and in old school terms deserves a slap.

Agreed - I think it possibly should have been a penalty but I don't think it's a stonewaller, even less so if you play the footage at actual game pace. I think a lot of people seemed to be under the misapprehension that VAR would eradicate all controversy and subjectivity but it was never going to. The rules of football lend themselves to opinion when you apply them. It's why I think it is stupid other than for factual decisions like goal line tech or offside. [Post edited 2 Jun 2023 11:24]

Yeah, it wasn’t a pen. He missed the Sevilla one, but VAR picked that up. That was more borderline imo (slightest contact, but player not looking to stay on his feet) so I was a bit surprised VaR overruled. Overall though he didn’t do too bad given the way Roma staff and players behaved. I genuinely wouldn’t want Mourinho here - can’t stand the bloke, nor his ‘football’.

Mourinho should get a lengthy ban, preferably a lifetime ban on 14:44 - Jun 2 with 1131 views | TheBoyBlue | He is one of the worst, but I think everyone in the game, including us fans have to take the blame. Hardly anyone (especially managers and players) says "yes, it's gone against us, but it was a fair decision." Debating decisions is part and parcel of being a fan and of course they get decisions wrong, but with almost every losing manager's interview the gracelessness with which managers accept defeat, inevitably blaming the officials, builds up and ultimately contributes to the toxic atmosphere that creates situations like this.

Granted he had a few ill-chosen words about the ref - but it was deranged obsessives and sore losers who did that. You get the same attitude on here to perceived injustice from ‘terrible referees’. Including you perhaps. |
Yeah, me complaining on a forum about the Sheff Wed offside or Barnsley disallowed goal is equivalent to waiting for the referee in a parking lot and insulting him, or throwing chairs at him and his wife at an airport. Also, stalking someone in a parking lot and hurling abuse at them is being a deranged obsessive and a sore loser. One that was an inspiration to other deranged obsessive sore losers. Pretending to be a Town fan whilst posting any negative take about Town you can on a Town forum in a Norwich full kit is also being a deranged obsessive.

I am somewhere in between your views and the original poster. I think Mourinho waiting in a car park telling the ref to f*** off and calling him a c*** is despicable, but I also don’t think it was the direct cause of a bunch of scumbags attacking him and his family. The only thing I’d really disagree with you on is the level of severity of the attack (especially considering he was with family).

Roma fans, the ultras/hooligans at least, are crazy, they dont need or are going to be remotely influenced by Mourinhos words to act out of order. dont they have some stupid reputation that an away fan gets stabbed at nearly everyone of their games but we only hear about it when it impacts British fans ? and they were collectively banned as away fans in Italy for two months earlier this year for a dust up they had with Napoli fans, who got the same ban. They even had Red Star Belgrade ultras travel down to Italy specifically, because they werent playing in Italy, just to have a fight with Roma. its one of those cases where UEFA should really be looking more at the security arrangements of match officials in games like that. as for Mourinho, he was out of order what he said, I dont know that he waited for him in the car park as such, given Mourinho has ample opportunity post match to go tell the officials exactly the same thing he doesnt need to wait to cross paths with them, they just happened to be there at the same time I think, but he should get a fine and touchline ban for what he said and did as there was no need for it and brings him into disrepute. I think the ref had a decent enough game, 4th official struggled I think, but Im surprised the only card shown was yellow though, and the penalty, well var is dobbins. is that why Roma lost the game ? no not really, daftly though it seemed like they were playing for penalties, instead of actually trying to create chances to score, Sevilla by far had the better and more experienced set of penalty takers and were much more likely to win in that situation, as they did comfortably, so tactically it was the wrong thing for Roma to do, and thats why they lost the game.
