The Loft for Words match report is up and it’s magnificent 23:24 - Aug 20 with 7769 views | Illinoisblue | A brilliant read and scroll halfway down there’s some great pics of the celebrating away end. Also contains this about everyone’s favourite rock star manager: “Gareth Ainsworth, as we always feared would be the case at a club that loves to eat its young, is the lightning rod for a torrent of internal and external criticism and ridicule for everything from his tactics down to his snakeskin boots. Fair, his team selections, tactics and style to this point could just as easily have come from handing a chimp a machine gun as employing him; and his appearance is that of a man sentenced to three whole mid-life crises to be served concurrently.” Zing! Also amazing; their home end has seen five QPR goals in their last 30 home games. Ouch. https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/60683 [Post edited 20 Aug 2023 23:25]

Reads like a Family Guy…. on 08:36 - Aug 21 by Bloots | ….greatest hits compilation. Far too many “cutaway gags” for my liking. He’s just trying a bit too hard IMHO. |
I'm with Bloots. It's an entertaining read for sure, but a little OTT for my liking. Shoehorning in a few too many 'funnies' that it becomes a bit try hard. 7/10 but less is sometimes more.

Less than ideal, therefore, for Rangers to have this as their only home league fixture before September 16. Not so much an unwanted guest at a family funeral as a whole stag party rocking up to bang out Bamboleo on the coffin lid while nan quietly sobs in the corner. Thank you Grandad, thank you for fighting the war. Superb.

Reminded me (almost) of the slogan of the nearby Oxford Street's John Lewis "never knowingly undertold".

Take these two passages, they are excellent fanzine report content, but crucially (which you fail to miss) they are more informative than traditional writing styles. You're focussing on the wrong parts of the report. "Malaise can very quickly be blown away by the presence and influence of Armstrong. Picking the ball up wide on the left you sensed something was afoot from the moment he got it under control. Pace terrifies defenders, and the lack of it in our team is one of many reasons we’ve been so easy to play against over the last 18 months. Armstrong turned inside, popped it between the two defenders, and feasted on the wide open space beyond. Should he have squared it to Chair? You freeze frame it, analyse it in slow motion, Monday morning quarter back, cold sober light of day, and yeh he should. At high speed, in the moment, having done all that, and reached right to the edge of the six yard box, I think he was within his rights to shoot. A good save by Hladky. Chair left to flap his arms in frustration. Let me tell you something now, there’s no way in a thousand million years Chair would have passed in the same situation. Probably would have scored mind." "I don’t know whether this is a good time to say this, but every single one of these Ipswich players, and indeed Kieran McKenna himself, has moved there on a free transfer, or for a fee we could have comfortably afforded at that time, but chose instead to spend on other things. In two cases – Dom Ball, Mass Luongo – these are players we had in the building and chose to let go. In several others – Conor Chaplin, Freddie Ladapo, the super Nathan Broadhead – it’s players who played brilliantly, often repeatedly brilliantly, against us, and we nevertheless ignored. Ignored because McClaren wanted a “team of men”; or Lee Wallace had captained Glasgow Rangers who are a “magnificent football club”; or Honest Mick had been at Tyler Roberts' f$cking Christening. This entire Ipswich team and manager has been available to us, on our budget, in some cases repeatedly, over the last five years, and we’ve ignored each of the bastards in turn, preferring instead to lather ourselves up in self congratulation for loaning Ethan Laird."

I write for a living. He does. Some of the syntax isn't even correct. If you have to read somethinig 3 times to follow it, there is a problem. I'm not knocking him. Its a fun well written fan piece with some nice lines. Personally I think it would be better if sharpened up a bit, but that still makes it better than many tedious and poorly written reports one finds online. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Agreed. There is entertainment in there. Simply too long there and would benefit from a bit of editorial licence.

I don't find that fella funny if he's standing up, sitting down, standing on his head or laying down. The only orientation that I think I'd find him amusing in is flying head first out of a cannon in a zero-gravity environment.
