Not sure he’s what we need - would be an odd one.

Guess he is versatile, and Boro do seem to be selling anyone and everyone.

Cook brought in some of our best players. Knowledge of players was never his issue.

He started the biggest job of his life at the same time his Dad died:

https://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/news/2021/september/interview-coley-looks-ah

It's a tough business which is utterly results driven, and doesn't make allowances. Of all the Pauls, I have a lot of sympathy for him.

Hurst: nah.

I have more sympathy for Hurst than Cook as a a manager, though obviously huge empathy and sympathy after the latter’s father passed.

Hurst was out of his depth with a belligerent squad used to the days of Mick and not ready to move forward, left with players who were not really good enough at this level, with not enough financial packing to replace the higher quality departures. It was too much too soon for him, and the mentality of those at the club at the time clashed with his personality.

Now Lambert? He’s a definite ‘nah’. Though he never had the quality at his disposal that Cook had.

Although he didn't help himself by selling the players that were Championship quality and replacing them with expensive L1 dross.

Hurst spent the best part of £4.5m on Harrison, Nolan, Nsiala, Jackson and Donacien - I have no sympathy at all. Useless manager for us that seriously underestimated what was required in the Championship.

In football terms I have no sympathy for either, Hurst was a self made disaster and Cook, whilst he clearly could spot a player (easily done when you have the biggest budget in the league) didn’t get anywhere near the best out of them.

Yeah, out of his depth, but most clubs in the Championship at the time were spending £4.5m on one or two players rather than twelve (the above, plus Roberts and Edwards on permanent deals, and Chalobah, Edun, Graham, Walters and Pennington on loan).

Mick would have no doubt done a better job with the money at his disposal, but it’s not as though Hurst had the advantages which Cook had.

He's played as a striker for Boro...

Did see some comments from Boro fans after their start and a lot of them were going apoplectic at Crooks being played as a striker.

Yeah not denying that we may be in for him at all - particularly if they simply triggered an extension to cover his value.

If Morsy was injured, Crooks would be a great backup and/or competition for Luongo.
However can´t find any links/reports about us being interested?

Shusssh.

From the looks of this thread, we’re ignoring that.

From a bit of digging, the OP’s source appears to be an obscure tweet from the Patron Saint of Tickets, claiming that we are back in for an old target that we missed out on.

Bluesbrothers has form for being the source before the source so I wouldn't be too put off by a lack of online chatter.

Hence my question about who of the previous management team who tried to buy crooks is still here. Polite (and slightly roundabout) way of saying is this story regurgitated from 2 years ago?

Yeh, he'd work more as a targetman type number 10 potentially

Would definitely be a different kind of option

Can he play the number ten role? We do seem short of options to cover Chaplin.

As said, he only signed a new contract with Boro last month so for them to sell would be a surprise.

With McKenna coaching him, he could be a ball-playing, creative Centre Half. He would win all his defensive headers and be a massive threat from attacking corners.

Total Football!

(Partly tongue in cheek)

I wonder if we are in for Crooks it is because he is seen as a versatile option - can cover Chaplin in the 10, Taylor if we move to an 8 and also a 9 in an emergency

May mean that we can sign a striker and move Ladapo on as between Crooks and Jackson would cover the 3rd striker role as offers 2 different things?

That's the way I see it. Wouldn't be surprised if we got Crooks and someone like Bishop.

Still feel we could do with another wide player but I'm being greedy.

He started Middlesbrough’s first two league games, then was a sub for the third. Not sure why they would be selling him?
