Haven’t really improved the squad that much, thought Ashton was going to be ruthless this summer.

Just a bit underwhelmed, relying on loans again.

Burnley, Sheffield United, Luton, Sunderland, Boro, Coventry all 'relied' on loans last year.

We'd be nieve not to utilise that market, so long as they are more Gio/Hirst than Josh Harrop it's fine, albeit not cheap. You may enjoy watching a young player for a season which ordinarily we would not have had the chance to see playing for itfc (ask Sunderland about Amad Diallo)

If we'd signed the loans earlier in the window and then secured Taylor and Hirst I think people would have a more positive view of it. They've been in the building for so long now it almost feels like they were last window.

Still over twenty eight hours to go,

But it has been slow all round, BBC transfers page only has thirteen so far today, only eight yesterday.

We have 3 loan players. I'd day that's fairly light for most non PL teams.

We had 2 last year.

To say we are relying on loans is a massive overstatement.

3 out of our 25 man squad are loans. 1 of those could be one that comes more permanently next year.

The other 2 are deemed amongst the most exciting prospects in the league.

There is simply nothing to be underwhelmed about other than reality not living up to ones own self imposed hype that we were going to go and spend £10 to £15 mil which we never were.

The large part of this squad was assembled to be competitive in this division and on what we have seen so far, early days as it is, we have been.

If we had purchased no additions and Ashton came out and said we couldn't afford any of the players who couod improve us and we didn't want loans - would you be happy or unhappy with the transfer window?

At least that will be a dose of realism for us in the Championship. We are no longer the big fish in a small pond now. For me personally disappointing because we will very likely still field the same team that we did at the end of last season in League 1. The 2 loanees we have so far (granted Williams only 2 games) have been underwhelming as well. Improvements = new players who will make the starting XI week in week out.

I think I'm more disappointed in how the window has panned out in general, with clubs gettings windfalls or investment at just the wrong time, which has inflated it to an extreme degree. Don't think we can point the finger at Ashton over any of it. He has to stick to FFP and protect the club.

Considering the parameters we've been working within, I think we have had a decent window, and I'm sure we'll have at least one more player lined up before it closes. Has every signing excited me? No, particularly Hutchinson and Scarlett, but McKenna sees something in them and he's been great at bringing young players through before.

I don’t see us relying on loans. I see us using the loan market to augment the squad and improve technical capability of that squad with players we’d otherwise never afford under current FFP limitations.

They are not blocking anyone and it means several players don’t get run into the ground. Let’s see how this plays through to next window at least!

So you think we should have splashed millions on Simms? You ignored that post and concentrate on the loans issue because it’s easy to drill up support for! Most teams rely on loans out of the Prem apart from a few who have parachute payments or have made a few million from sales (Coventry). You need to grow up (school next week?) and get back in the real world!

The big outstanding issue is not bringing in a CH with proven Championship experience. The 4 goals we conceded last Saturday was a nasty wake-up call though I realise some of that was down to others such as Williams getting going.

Whereas Hirst looked like a loan who might become a signing, I'm not convinced that's the case with Scarlett or Hutchinson, maybe Williams. So I think we've had 7 signings, which is bordering on too many, and I'd have been happy with less if it included an experienced CH.

Luongo was in the squad last year
Hirst was in the squad last year
Slicker replaces Hayes, and has a higher ceiling
Williams replaces Leigh
Taylor presumably replaces Evans
Hutchinson presumably replaces Edwards
Scarlett gives us more depth up front

I don't think any of the signings are luxuries. The one move which baffles me slightly this summer is extending Aluko's contract.

Bet Burnley were gutted that they had to rely on loan signings like Tella and Harwood-Bellis.

Underwhelmed?? We’ve signed a midfielder for a hefty fee that doesn’t get into the first XI, a kid from Chelsea that has never played senior football, a kid from Man’ure as back up for Davis, a 19 year old who had a poor season in League 1 last year (but is apparently going to morph into Lionel Messi at some point in the future) and a third choice keeper who’s first contribution was to expertly punch a ball into his own net (albeit off an opponent first, who was viciously caught out by the air hockey style punch) honestly, I don’t know why you are so underwhelmed, I mean they are all better than what we had already, right?

Given Aluko's comments about the role that McKenna wants him to play and his very limited minutes (not even getting full 90s in the Carabao) it will be interesting to see if he's registered for a league spot. He may have signed for the extra year knowing he won't play league football but has a useful role to play in the squad that helps him transition away from playing.

What if he’s got in the players he was asked to get?
Do you know any different?

Mark ashton said 6 weeks ago he wanted to add quality to the starting xl, we have not done that. We have added Scarlett who is a squad filler and Williams who is Greg Leigh’s replacement.

Just out of interest, who do you think we've missed out on?
Also, who would you have liked us to sign and how much were you expecting the club to spend?

While I'm at it, you are familiar that KM rated DS long before we were linked with him?

If having a bunch or whingers for supporters won the League Town would win by 20 points. We got out of that God foresaken League One and we are where every man and his dog wanted to be last season. We have started well and lost one game by one goal against a team who came down from the Prem with parachute payments and who will probably go back up again. We have one of the best managers in the Country. Yes, the Country and a multi million pound fund behind us. Be grateful for what we have and just reflect on where we were with Evans at the helm.

I think that needs qualifying as some still imagine prachute payments are extra with no obligation. If they were then very, very few clubs who are relegated from the PL would not return straight away.

Relegated clubs have a minimu loss of £30/40m. That means having to cut the wage bill and by the equivilant amount and/or sell players.

What is not understaodd is a player bought for say £9m in the year before they are relegated will only have had £3m of his fee paid. Fees are almost always paid in installments. So the relagated club sells athat player for £9m, it only equates to £3m to coevr the loss of income.

What is often the case is that the deadbeats and faikures who got you relegated are not the ones sought afrer by other clubs. And many are happy to stick around on PL wages, or whatever they are getting if there was a relegation ckause in there contract.

Of course it us not all doom and gloom as so many relegated clubs have shown, but it certainly is not the bonus some like to paint it as.

He said he wanted to add quality. That doesn't mean paying whatever the selling clubs ask. Being 'ruthless' (your word from OP) includes saying 'no' when the asking price is judged to be too high.

Our FFP constraints meant that using loanees was quite likely. Williams is a kind of half loan, as we have a deal to sign him if want to (presumably if we can afford to, ie get promoted!)

My understanding is that the option to buy was omitted from the final deal. I think this was clarified on TWTD, but elsewhere it was reported incorrectly.

I found this on Teamtalk: "An option to buy in the loan deal was reportedly discussed. However, it’s understood no such option has been included in the final terms that have now been sealed."
