Footballers in restaurants... 17:42 - Sep 5 with 14606 views | Funge | Bloots' interesting post about Chambo and Huws' budget clothing emporium got me thinking... ... I saw Chambo, Huws, Stephen Ward and someone else (maybe Oli Hawkins, or someone else suitably forgettable) in Nandos, around the time we were all Eating Out To Help Out. Huws had a chicken breast pitta, no idea what the others ate. Ward spoke with an Irish accent, which tallies with his nationality. About a year later I saw Dozzell Jr in the same restaurant eating green olives. He didn't talk. Otherwise, the only other sighting of a footballer I am aware of in a restaurant, was the picture of Neil Thompson and Tony Vaughan in Manna's Cafe, eating fried breakfasts.

It was a Saturday evening after another miserable home performance back in the day. Can’t remember the name of the place but if I remember correctly it was a Mexican restaurant in Cardinal Park.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Lovely chap, very chatty, talked about The British Open at Celtic Manor. I don't really like golf, I'm in the good walk spoiled camp, but I enjoyed the chat nevertheless. He had cod and chips twice.

I could cope with a choirmaster, but I don't stand a chance when it comes to Jason Derulo.

Marcus Stewart eating a sandwich of some sort at Prague airport, early 2000's. Also a nice guy and also got his autograph.

Footballers in restaurants... on 07:21 - Sep 6 by textbackup | I hadn’t even seen your post when I used that exact term to describe him also! I can only imagine what he was up to… was his missus in attendance? The party I was at, saw him walk behind the bar push the kid serving out the way, grab bottles and drinking from them, refused to pay. Most just ignored him but I was fixated on his behaviour, he saw me looking and said ‘he knows who I am doesn’t he’ I did the whole shaking head embarrassed thing, he was fuming. Useless pr1ck |
Ha - glad not just me! Probably a little dangerous to put on here but I've genuinely never been so pissed off with what I witnessed (saying a lot) and the general disrespect for the club. I think he had been told that he was to be released that day or something but I'm not sure. I know a couple of people either went to the local press or threatened to (probably including Phil) but, being sponsors, were persuaded by people at the club not to take it further. And it was the year we got relegated too so I left that night thinking what on earth am I spending half my life doing following ITFC . | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He'll likely just keep singing his own name over and over again so wouldn't worry too much.

Holland, Venus and Jamma seemed to live there. Does anyone remember a little cafe on Queen's Street (near where the Giles statue now is)? I remember going into there on a Saturday morning (1980/81 ish) and getting autographs of players who were in having their pre-match fry-ups. Few of them had a Rothmans on the go as well.

Footballers in restaurants... on 19:50 - Sep 6 with 1506 views | Lord_Lucan | I went to a Keane family BBQ in Cork - and they were all there except Roy. Also went out in Aldburgh with Roy and his brother. Stayed in the same hotel as all the squad in Milan and had a few drinks with them. Seen various players in pubs and clubs over the years but nothing really eventful of note and I certainly wouldn't bother them, although Warky seems to be on nodding terms. I suppose the highlights were Paul Mariner and Terry Butcher in The Salutation before what I remember as an Iron Maiden gig, Terry had the most awful brand new and shiny leather jacket on. The other was seeing a very drunk Danny Sonner shouting out his own name at the top of his voice in Whetherspoons.

Possibly the Gaumont circa 1985? Obvs not a Town player then but still mates with Butch etc.

No, it was around 82 Maybe not Iron Maiden. I was going to initially say Deep Purple but I think they were split at the time. Wasn't Whitesnake Not sure now - but one of those headbanging lot and Butcher was still young and a bit Rodney Trotter looking.

Looked up his last season and suddenly I'm having unpleasant flashbacks. Hurst. Relegation. Etc. And Gerken sounds like a total knobhead. What a state the club was in.

He was definitely number 2 behind Bart at the time, which made his remark ‘do you know who I am’ all the more funny. Absolute berk.

My first job was at the Belstead Brook Hotel back when away teams would stay there…. That line was used on me once by a footballer…. Marcus Hahnemann. He reported me to the General Manager for my response “Yeah I do, and I wouldn’t shout about it if I was you” At least Steve Sidwell found it funny…
