Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? 14:13 - Oct 2 with 7549 viewsitfcjoe

I wonder if we have a loan recall for Idris in January?

With Luongo and Morsy potentially going off to the Asia Cup and AFCON, and Evans having a potential knee injury (and struggling to play at the pace we need to as a team) where do we look to bring someone in for a few games who is up to match speed?

I wonder if there is a possibility to bring El Miz back on or around Jan 1st, have him there to cover Asia Cup and AFCON and then send him back to Orient at the end of the month

Does he come back and jump ahead of 2 or 3 of Taylor, Ball, Humphreys and Evans though, against Sunderland and away to Leicester? Having not been around the place for the past 6 months and never played at Championship level. Feels a little far fetched to me. I wouldn't rule Harness out of an opportunity in there too, KM mentioned it at the weekend and he looked really comfortable there in pre season.

El Miz will also then have played for 2 clubs this season, so Orient would be his only suitor. I think the window shuts well before the end of the AFCON or ASIA cup anyway which run into Feb, so he either goes back and we don't get the benefit of him covering the whole tournament, or he stays here for the 2nd half of the season and probably doesn't play much.

I can't see it happening either unless he is absolutely ripping it up there. (No real criticism of El Miz) but Leyton Orient are struggling so not sure how much impact he's being able to have. He did great last season but let's not forget two divisions down. He could do a job I'm sure but it would take him the time that are away just to get up to speed and totally different level of fitness etc required.

Side note (but also with a recall) I believe Camara is back on the grass. Feel for the guy. Hope he can get and stay fit.

....personally.

More likely that we'll get Taylor fully up to speed by then and either get someone else in, or just make do for a few weeks.

A lot will depend on our league position.

Has he trained here in the McKenna system pre-season, before he went on his loans? Would he be up to speed to drop straight in? Is he (or any of our other options) able to take the ball from the keeper and turn under pressure whilst hardly ever giving it away (like Morsy and Luongo can)?

If no to any of these, we've probably got to look at a tweak to the system rather than try to replace like for like in a very risky position. Having two CMs dropping deep to show for the ball out from the keeper and a slightly deeper 10 and narrower wide forwards might be the answer?

Something like this:

-------------------Hladky
----Woolf----------------------Burgess
Clarke ---Humph-------Ball
-------------------Taylor----------------Davis
---------Chaplin---------Broadhead
-------------------Hirst

I don’t believe he joined pre-season training, or certainly for any length of time.

But I think El Miz is quite tenacious and technical on the ball, so would fit in.

I do have slightly rose tinted towards El Miz due to volume of positive messages from an Orient mate (mates mates mates)

I do like your proposed system and selection - Humphreys could become a playmaker… but is also dogged

I think it'll depend on who gets called up. Luongo isn't likely to be in the Australia squad is he? Presumably it's just Morsy and Burgess, the latter might give a good opportunity to Tuanzebe to form a relationship with Woolfenden, plus we still have Edmundson. Morsy is always going to be missed in the middle, but with Taylor, Luongo, Ball, Evans, Humphreys, and even Harness we have decent numbers for what would likely be 3-4 games. I can't see that El Miz would come back and be ahead of any of those anyway, so not sure there's a lot of value in bringing him back.

I wouldn't be surprised if we look to add a central midfielder in Jan irrespective of that, what with half an eye on succession planning longer term. Ball and Evans are both out of contract at the end of the season, and Luongo and Morsy not getting any younger. I think there will definitely be appetite to go big in midfield in the right player becomes available.

Morsy is the classic case of "if only he was younger".

He's up there with our best players of the last 15 years.

Depending on our league position we will buy or loan a couple in Jan
And player's who have not had a sniff will be loaned or sold

I thought you stopped mid-sentence there for a sec! The I realised the last word is pronounced "dogg-ed" not "dogged" as in "dogged by injury".

With that system - transitioning to attack I'd think Ball would hold, Humphreys would push forward as an advanced midfielder, and Taylor can push right up as a no 10.

Australia are terrible. If the manager has seen mass play this season, he'd be mad not to pick him.

Yep, this is for me an option if both go - we get someone who is match fit coming in to cover a 3-4 week period before going back out to Orient for whom he is their best player.....so effectively they just suffer what we do - lose best player for 3-4 weeks and have to replace with an inferior one but we have a very suitable stand in

Are you thinking that Idris is a better Morsy replacement than Taylor or Humphreys? If he is then I’d have thought that a long term recal ought to be on the cards, with a view to succession planning. If he isn’t seen as up to that standard then as has been said we will surely be looking for a longer term upgrade in Jan, or more likely the summer.

As a matter of interest, could you see Taylor and Humphreys eventually replacing Sammy and Mass?

El Miz is probably closer in style of play to Morsy than either Taylor or Humphreys. He can carry the ball and is technically good in tight areas, also has a good engine on him. Whether that translates to being able to perform that role in a Championship side is another matter of course. Humphreys lacks a bit of physicality at the moment but he also gets through some work, more of a classy passer though. Taylor looks to have a good engine but perhaps isn't as comfortable on the ball in tight areas and not necessarily a ball carrier. All imo, of course. As we prepare for life post-Morsy, we may have to slightly adapt how we build out from the back to suit the players we have.

Not necessarily, more that we could potentially be 3 CMs down and be left with just Taylor, Evans, Ball and Humphreys. Evans knee appears to struggle and for me he lacks the mobility required in this league and Ball has only played RB this season, and Humphreys will have not played any senior football - someone like Idi would have been playing every week and match fit and ready to go if he were needed for that period

Looks like our midfield backup for Morsy and Luongo is Evans and Taylor, if Evans isn't physically up to it for a few games in January then he probably needs to be replaced. I'd be up for giving El Mizouni a go, realistically that's his opportunity if he's going to make it long term here.

Not beyond the realms of possibility Luongo could be in the running as well. The Australia manager was at the game at QPR and spoke to ML, who said he was "definitely in the mix again".
