Every time it was put to the poltician that noone had ever suggested that councils would control who went to the shops when, he claimed that 15 minute cities were a policy and a real thing. Quite deliberately conflating 15 minute cities with sinister control of movement but utterly unable to provide a single example of a proposal about the latter.

They're going down, and they appear to be happy to take the country and the standards expected of those in public life down with them. It is a rather nihilistic, which is odd for a supposedly conservative party, and they don't seem to care about the consequences.

Yes but the current Tory party has positioned itself as being dead against the way they've run the country for the last 13 years, in fact they manage to pretend it's nothing to do with them. Bunch of absolute w@nkers.

They certainly seem easily persuaded to support things that are damaging and screw us all over. Weird indeed.

It’s no surprise. After their lies of the last 7/8 years, it’s obvious they only electioneer and will say anything if they think it appeals to a certain base they want to court.

They've always been vile sociopaths only interested in looking after the interests of their donors and the small minded but post-Brexit vote, they appear to have taken onboard the notion that being open about it pays off.

it takes a special kind of government to contradict its own response to a topic in less than 6 months though. whats the guy going to say to well minister one of your own ministries said the stuff you spent this morning talking about is basically completely made up nonsense.

It's like them going big on their criticism of ULEZ when it was the brainchild of a Tory mayor and Grant Shapps having by previously told Sadiq Khan he needed to bring forward a previous ULEZ expansion as part of a funding deal for TfL. Politics has been slipping interest the gutter for years, but when the Tories imposed Boris Johnson on is they absolutely destroyed it. Politicians now will say whatever they think might be popular regardless of whether they believe in it now or believed the opposite 5 minutes ago, or whether it contains even a grain of truth. They will likewise avoid saying anything that might be unpopular, hence the inability to answer the most straightforward of questions. I don't really know how our politics recovers from here without a few of those responsible being sent to the gallows, which sadly is unlikely to happen.

The problem is that the Tories have half a chance of clawing something back by this route because political education is nonexistent in this country and a worrying swathe of people are woefully uninformed with very limited grounding in critical thinking. The government know how to play on it and it will have some impact – just hopefully nowhere near enough.

The only encouraging thing is that a growing % of the media have finally starting calling them out on the lies and fabrications - I guess there comes a point where the lies are so silly that they cannot be ignored.

A creeping pattern to your posts. She spoke at a fringe meeting. If memory serves, even Corbyn spoke at a fringe meeting, despite haven’t the whip suspended. |
She spoke at a meeting to launch a proto-ERG 2.0. And 60 MPs have come out in support of it. So, yes, a substantial number of Tory MPs have given her a platform again. And that's before we get to the Party members, many of whom still love her. If there is a "Creeping pattern to your posts" it's that you will defend the Tories at every turn and then claim you aren't supporting the Tories. You've got the whiff of a General Election in your nostrils again and you're back in Tory spin doctor mode. Well done for crow-barring in a "Yeah, but Corbyn" though.

I believe they are planning a massive social media disinformation campaign targeted at the vulnerable for the GE - it'll be full of all the culture war menu items and probably paid for from foreign based donations. The Electoral Commission will be nowhere to be seen.

Here's a particularly nasty string to their bow, given that they appear to want to make Khan a bogeyman nationally, as well as locally. Admittedly though it has shades of the dog-whistle campaign Zak Goldsmith ran against Khan in 2016. [Post edited 3 Oct 2023 13:35]

Important to remember that they got rid of the proportional voting system for the London mayor and replaced it with first past the post - given other runners - Greens/ Corbyn?/ Lib Dems/ etc - this racist tory might only need 35% to win.

Tories currently going big on the anti 15 minute cities vote on 13:55 - Oct 3 with 1446 views | DJR | Whilst the political announcement on trans people in women's wards has tapped into the culture wars, the Guardian has pointed out that the official announcement (below) is much more measured. Indeed, with the increasing number of hospitals with single rooms, it does make one wonder how much of a real issue this is. "The government has today announced it will consult on proposed updates to the NHS constitution to ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of all patients is respected. Proposed changes will be brought forward later this year, ahead of the next routine update to the NHS constitution and its handbook in summer 2024. As part of this exercise, we the government will closely consider the latest advice from the Equality and Human Rights Commission on delicate issues of balancing the rights of different protected characteristics of patients in certain settings." Incidentally, the logical extension of a proposal to ban trans people from women's wards, is to have separate hospitals for men, women and trans people staffed only by those of the same sex or gender. Sadiq Khan as an existential threat to London Jews? Who’d have thunk it? Par for the course from the pro-Israel lobby. Which has largely become a nexus for right-wing loons, weaponising tools and ethno-religious fundamentalists.
