Dropping out of top 2 17:33 - Nov 14 with 8576 views | FrimleyBlue | Genuine question. There's been a fair few posts about entitlement amongst town fans. But genuinely.. when would it be OK to be disappointed if we dropped out of the top 2 places. I never thought we'd get anywhere near it this season. Top 10 was a hope. So I based most thoughts on that prediction. But part of me also sees us as we are. Currently top 2. 8 points clear and lovely gap to missing out on automatic. So when do you pass the stage of being seen as entitled for changing your expectations from a top 10 finish to one where we've made the gap due to our performances so we should finish top 2...

In fairness to Frimmers, people have mentioned entitlement on here but more in relation to expecting us to blow teams away every week and complaining when we don't. If we maintain top 2 for most of the season but end up being narrowly pipped then naturally that will feel disappointing, the entitled response would be to lose one's head and start bleating on here as though top 2 was a legitimate expectation for us. Others will be able to be disappointed whilst reflecting what a phenomenal achievement it is for us to have been competing for the top 2 all season.

Dropping out of top 2 on 08:43 - Nov 15 with 2000 views | Vegtablue | We'll need to reach the stage where a PPG of below 1.5 is required for me to believe we should finish in the top two. Leeds reduced the gap to Leicester by 6 points in 2 matches and have won 7 of their last 9. We will be expected to lose to them in December and they are still preferred for automatic promotion by some bookmakers. Southampton did likewise and have now won 6 of their last 8. Both can likely dwarf our January spending if they wish to and both have at least £150m more available to them in squad talent presently. I'll be disappointed if we don't finish top two now, which feels normal given where we are. I won't be disappointed in the team, management or club obviously; you'd have to be properly thick to be disappointed in them this season given what they've delivered for us, even if the wheels do come off at some point. I already think we should finish in the first six, which is incredible to say only a third of the way in. Do you think we should finish top 2 Frimley?

That's a pretty different context though. It may have been mentioned in both contexts, I may have missed it. In general I think people have been pretty level-headed and are enjoying the ride. SB

Dropping out of top 2 on 07:18 - Nov 15 by GavTWTD | The paragraph about entitlement wasn't needed imo. Otherwise it would have been a good question..But that's trimmers. It would depend on the manner. If we dropped out of the top 2 because we started to lose regularly, that would be different to Leeds just pipping us because their PPG was slightly better. I hope the 3 teams that get promoted are the ones that deserve it over the season. If we get beaten by better teams then so be it. The thought of the playoffs doesn't frighten me at all with McKenna. |
True, don't disagree. But what I don't understand is that people who find Frimmers posts so annoying they then see one, actively engage with it to read all the comments and start a dialogue by responding to them.

Dropping out of top 2 on 09:38 - Nov 15 with 1938 views | OldFart71 | Where on earth does this "Entitlement" statement come from. If we have fans that presume we are entitled to anything they are way off the mark. Nobody at the club, manager, CEO, players, backroom staff would ever under any circumstance believe the club is entitled to anything. It has to be earned by skill, dedication and effort. Nothing less will do. A major addition to that is luck. A few bad decisions, injuries, suspension etc can soon turn a good season into a moderate one. I remember the season Town should have won the league, where at a crucial time when we were points and games in hand and lost out to Aston Villa due to injuries. Town fans need to stay as we are and were. Thankful for what we have and be very grateful for whatever we achieve.

If you're referring to me, I answered that across several posts in reply to Frimmers' comments addressing me last night. Edit - I have btw at least twice, earlier in the season, made the same point as you re people going for the man not the ball in response to him. However, the accumulation of negativity has had its effect, as I said last night. I've also made the point that I try not to downvote him, but he makes it hard sometimes. Dropping out of top 2 on 10:12 - Nov 15 with 1902 views | baxterbasics | Of course it would be 'disappointing' to drop out of the top 2 at any point, given the start we've had. But that's not the same as feeling entitled, nor would we be in flounce territory. In my head I have reasoned that from current position we've got 50/50 chance of seeing this through. A top 6 finish at least should be on the cards now and would be a fantastic result, even if tinged with a little heartbreak (or a lot, if playoffs don't go well).

As a result of the thread, I'm now steeling myself for the "miss-out in playoffs" possibility by telling myself that it'd give us more time to consolidate in the Champ and thereby significantly reduce the possibility of us struggling badly in the Prem! I think we'd be able to retain KM & our best players for at least one more go at it next season, & that Gamechanger would back that with a good wodge of cash. I don't *expect* us to go up automatically, let alone feel "entitled" to, that'd be stupid - but I would now be incredibly, massively disappointed if we don't! given the start we've had. However, as we saw with Wednesday last season, there's many a slip twxt cup & lip, and always the possibility of the unknown, esp re injuries/illness/suspensions etc., and I'm a realist, albeit an innately optimistic one!

Dropping out of top 2 on 10:36 - Nov 15 with 1879 views | CityBlue | Well the bookies have us a second favourites to win the league and the bookies are normally there or there abouts... Southampton are fourth faves at something like 19-1

Dropping out of top 2 on 12:00 - Nov 15 with 1840 views | BigCommon | I'm just taking the season a bite at a time... The next little chunk, is probably our toughest on paper so far. And will take us up to the January window.... We've done amazingly well to be in the position that we're in, after a 3rd of the season. But it's fare to say, that our players have been flat out, to achieve it.. It's a huge transfer window, for me. A psychological boost, and some extra strength in depth to lift the squad, is essential, if they are expected to keep up, anywhere near the same kind of form for the remainder of the season. My entitlement, as a fan, goes as far as, anyone in a Town shirt giving their all, for every game.. If the core of the group, are giving everything , which I believe they are. Then I can't expect anything more. And its been a pleasure, watching a team that actually fights for everything and each other.. I can't fault the lads and the coaching staff. But I might question the recruitment policy. If we come up short in January.. Just one or two needed, imo. Give everyone around the place a lift..
Dropping out of top 2 on 12:06 - Nov 15 with 1834 views | BlueForYou | To be a part of a top four containing Leeds, Leicester, & Southampton, is remarkable & shows how far Ipswich have come since the change of ownership! To be second among that group is even more remarkable! Top ten were my expectations this season as well.
Dropping out of top 2 on 12:20 - Nov 16 with 1705 views | Churchman | I’ve seen no sense of entitlement from anybody. Examples? There was a fair few from Wednesday at the start of the year and I suspect Leeds and Leicester now (can’t be bothered to look). What I see from our supporters is excitement, pride, shock, bewilderment, relief (at being out of the dogs£t league) and optimism - or maybe that’s just how I feel. Which I do. As an individual, I have never done entitlement and following this club after 20 years of nothing, if I had felt any sense of that it’d be long gone. So, dropping out of the top two. If we fall away, of course I’ll feel disappointed given our start. But it’s a two stage thing for me. The big picture says whatever happens, we as a club are growing and getting more powerful. The way the club is gearing itself in all aspects tells me that good things await us in the next few years. The second stage is the now. We have an opportunity. You are not eight points clear of third after 16 games by luck. Whether we strengthen in January or not it’s there for us. I don’t care who the other sides sign. Leeds can bring in Haaland if they like. It’s all about us. We have an extraordinary team. I’ve never seen anything like it. Of course Robson’s teams were better. Ramsey’s Champions must have been too. But this current side in its own right? Wow. On Saturday after 15 mins we hadn’t touched the ball. If you are one of the hardy Swansea fans there you would have been thinking ‘hello, we can do this. We’re all over these’. 30 mins later they must have thought ‘we did well not to go in 5-1 down’. The Swansea players didn’t know what hit them. This is not an isolated occurrence. However a game goes our team at some stage will hurt the opposition. We are actually quite wasteful in front of goal at times. Yet we are averaging 3 a game at home. Someone is in for the mother of all hidings at some point 16th Dec? Please?? 31 games, 25 wins, 1 defeat since Feb. Bonkers. So what do we need? I’d love to see a permanent really good Premier level central defender come in. A defence leader in the mould of a Mowbray or a Hunter. And somebody who can do what Hirst does. Subject to availability! In conclusion, if we fall away this season, it’ll be disappointing but the big picture says it won’t be the end of the world. Even I think we will avoid relegation and the worst we will finish is my pre season prediction of 6-10. I think and hope we will do better than that. I hope others are enjoying what we are doing as much as I am. These really are the days after so long in decline.

Dropping out of top 2 on 17:37 - Nov 14 by Mach_foreignBlue | Plenty of Leeds fans say on the social media are claiming the promotion is theirs and our wheels will come off soon. Fascinating how they can predict the future. |
This is Leeds fans. They think that they were Champions of Europe because they beat Bayern Munich once by scoring two less goals than them, so I wouldn't put it past them to think that because they beat us earlier in the season, if we get Automatic and they don't, that they are "morally" the Premier League team.
Dropping out of top 2 on 19:06 - Nov 16 with 1625 views | Nomore4 | I predicted top 2 pre season, since changed this to top. However, the Championship is fairly easy to predict as the season progresses. Judging by years gone by…. The top 5 through November hold the 2 teams that eventually finish top 2. The top 3 through December. The top 2 through January usually stay there. Every season produces a surprise team, such as Luton.
