Come on Town fans - have to be better.. 17:28 - Dec 2 with 12121 viewsunstableblue

Yes I know it was cold, and I know Town didn’t always get out of second gear. But at times we played superb stuff and we scored a worldie.

And most importantly look where we are in the table and how we’ve been doing at home this season.

And critically look at McKenna at the end.. trying to fire up and get a response from the crowd to celebrate where Town are, to appreciate the amazing work from him and the players.

To have the away fans singing “2-0 and you still don’t sing” - it’s embarrassing.

Crucially we all want McKenna to stay, we want as many months/years from our superb young manager, and he clearly rates rabid support from his current club’s fans.

Today we were poor as a fan base. Jeeze the North Stand lower literally emptied by the time the players/manager got to them.

Near me, there are 10-15 of us singing and encouraging there are literally people completely static.

Let’s go full ballistic in the derby, but let’s not allow PR to not be a cauldron of noise, that inspires and attracts our manager.

Must do better.

Must admit. Didn’t come across well second half. Should be bouncing constantly for 90 minutes at the moment, that’s 17 out 18. Shouldn’t need to wait for the players to Mount attacks.

In my personal opinion I think singing sections have ruined the atmosphere. Instead of just a couple of sections I think the whole ground should sing

Maybe the West Stand are waiting or their one annual rendition and it will be “get off the pitch” again come May.

You don’t have to be in the “singing section” to sing ya know…

You're spot on. Blue Action did their bit, the rest of us were flat as a pancake. It felt like there were about six of us giving it a go in SBRU Block 1. It was flat from the get-go and I can only hope it was down to the cold. The stupid thing about it is that everyone would have been a bit warmer if they'd got a bit more animated.

I did wonder if the cold weather impacted negatively on the atmosphere but I also recall a League Cup tie v West Brom around 2010-2011 in front of 11,000 on a Tuesday night. Pretty sure it was colder than what today was and the atmosphere that night was probably the best of the season. Not a high bar in all likeliness though as it was the Keane/Jewell campaign.

It's what I'm choosing to believe for the time being! The coldest I can recall was the FA Cup 3rd round replay away at Preston in 2014, although I think that was more about windchill, and lack of suitable clothing on my part...

This thread, and your up-arrowers, is astonishing. I didn't notice anything amiss with the atmosphere until I came on here. Maybe I was too busy enjoying a 17th win in 18 at home.

I swear some of you have had so many years of dross you don't know how to cope with doing well. Win after win after win and there's always someone moaning about something.

EDIT: I'm also pretty sure McKenna at the end was enjoying celebrating with the fans, not dissing them for not singing enough.

I agree with the OP.

Blue Action are making a massive difference to the atmosphere but the North Stand could do with getting involved more. So little noise seems to come from there now.

But positivity is key. I hope we’re not becoming complacent with the wins and just turning up to expect a show

Your reply is like an oxymoron

I am absolutely celebrating the fact we’ve had our 17th home win - the issue is our fans just weren’t celebrating it vocally in the stands.

I just couldn’t agree more than we’ve had years of dross. We should be joining feckin mental at the final whistle. It was so muted and flat as to be unbelievable.

There is just no way on gods earth that todays town support was good today.

I know football message boards are about opinions, and I celebrate that. But come on - as you rightly state we’ve just won YET AGAIN at home, secured second place.. yet the lower north was literally emptying as the players and managers saluted it

Great post. The atmosphere at Portman Road is shocking IMO and I think there are a few reasons for this.

There are so many families and older (50+) supporters who attend games. You only have to look at some of the people who ask questions at the Fans Forum, to know that we're never going to have a raucous atmosphere. I bet even the Norwich match won't be as loud as some are expecting.

I'm 50+ and sit in the West Stand. I love what Blue Action are doing and would love it if the rest of the ground joined in, but the demographic of our support means it won't happen.

First half was decent, second half flat I thought but as others have said that somewhat mirrors what was happening on the pitch. From Section 4 I can just about hear the Block A lot but not very well and I think there's still issues of chants not really carrying around the singing areas and, ideally, the whole stadium. People start up chants pretty regularly in SBR Lower but they're often localised to a few hundred in the section where the chant started and another part of SBR or the lads in Block A will be singing something entirely different so there's a bit of noise but not a harmonious wall of sound. Not sure how to address the problem, partly acoustics are rubbish as well as Town not being naturally the noisiest fan base.

That second sentence - would like to give 2 uppies to that.

I think McKenna's slightly exaggerated fist bump at the end was really just a response to that goal at the death knocking the energy from the stands - we still won and we still played well, but that goal led to a collective sigh/FFS moment in the stands and took the shine off things.

I mean yeh obviously, we still won. But things happen in the moment innit. Tbh I often high tail it out of the upper north very soon after the whistle and don't hang around to clap the players. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Yesterday e.g. I didn't.

Agree the atmosphere wasn't the best yesterday. Probably just cold.
