Come on Town fans - have to be better.. 17:28 - Dec 2 with 11741 views | unstableblue | Yes I know it was cold, and I know Town didn’t always get out of second gear. But at times we played superb stuff and we scored a worldie. And most importantly look where we are in the table and how we’ve been doing at home this season. And critically look at McKenna at the end.. trying to fire up and get a response from the crowd to celebrate where Town are, to appreciate the amazing work from him and the players. To have the away fans singing “2-0 and you still don’t sing” - it’s embarrassing. Crucially we all want McKenna to stay, we want as many months/years from our superb young manager, and he clearly rates rabid support from his current club’s fans. Today we were poor as a fan base. Jeeze the North Stand lower literally emptied by the time the players/manager got to them. Near me, there are 10-15 of us singing and encouraging there are literally people completely static. Let’s go full ballistic in the derby, but let’s not allow PR to not be a cauldron of noise, that inspires and attracts our manager. Must do better. [Post edited 4 Dec 2023 9:25]

Come on Town fans - have to be better.. on 09:55 - Dec 3 by Dubtractor | That second sentence - would like to give 2 uppies to that. I think McKenna's slightly exaggerated fist bump at the end was really just a response to that goal at the death knocking the energy from the stands - we still won and we still played well, but that goal led to a collective sigh/FFS moment in the stands and took the shine off things. |
I thought the music blaring out killed the atmosphere for a good old sing song when they started the walk around the pitch

It is just a remarkable time to be a Town fan isn’t it. And it’s really not just the heady heights and results that have got us there, it’s the quality and exciting nature of the football. Success, exciting/entertaining football and manager/players you connect with. What more can you ever want from your club! (Ahem apart from a raucous atmosphere of course). I was convinced yesterday that Coventry were going to really test us, and I had a suspicion we’d face some intense pressing which worked so well for West Brom… but Town kicked into gear early and Coventry allowed… and then you just know we’re likely to win. Fascinating to see how we get on against Boro and Watford away.

I might be the only one but I find your obsession with crowd noise rather odd. I think you would find that the supporters of most club moan about the lack of noise from time to time.

Come on Town fans - have to be better.. on 09:51 - Dec 3 by Herbivore | First half was decent, second half flat I thought but as others have said that somewhat mirrors what was happening on the pitch. From Section 4 I can just about hear the Block A lot but not very well and I think there's still issues of chants not really carrying around the singing areas and, ideally, the whole stadium. People start up chants pretty regularly in SBR Lower but they're often localised to a few hundred in the section where the chant started and another part of SBR or the lads in Block A will be singing something entirely different so there's a bit of noise but not a harmonious wall of sound. Not sure how to address the problem, partly acoustics are rubbish as well as Town not being naturally the noisiest fan base. [Post edited 3 Dec 2023 10:00]

We address the problem with you Herbie atop a step ladder before the North Stand with a small megaphone - marshalling the wall of sound Section 4 were really trying at times yesterday… but it didn’t seem to carry across the lower north A lot of people on the thread are saying it’s always been this way, or as you are it’s an acoustics issue.., but in about 5 games last season the level of singing and noise was remarkable.. both tiers of north, block a and b in cobbold and large areas of the pioneer Large scale blue and white army renditions with real volume Similarly fans have stayed behind more readily to clap team as they come over at the end I expect it to be really rabid against Norwich to prove this point I think the main point for me is for fans not to take this amazing season for granted, and to participate and not spectate

I'd suggest we're all pretty obsessed by Town, hence we're on this football forum posting out musings, hopes and fears Also obsessed by PR atmosphere and the support the players/managers are getting - I guess am a little I think this thread has been a pretty healthy debate, its a message board that's the point, bar a few of the usual people getting triggered Interesting to see some people think its always been this way at PR and always will be, some its an acoustics issue, some a section coordination issue. I personally think that Town support through the McKenna era has been good, as the manager and players have stated on multiple occassions, as I said in another response at least 5 games last season the home support was superb.. thinking Derby at home for one (absolute limbs for Buns goal), Sheff Weds at home.. when the players came out against Plymouth it was insane... one of the best I can remember... its also been good at time this season So a good atmosphere is possible To your point, and why focus on it... its simple this is the best period as a Town supporter since 1998-2000, we should celebrate it, not be passive, and finally and crucially - it lifts the players... just listen to McKenna

I am not sure you got the memo Flashing.. but this is a football message board, where people come with different opinions, and we discuss and challenge... I'm not sure you getting completely triggered by things you don't like is getting us anywhere... I salute your passion but perhaps calm down a little.. This is my view, I think worded in a good way, and clearly lots of people agree with it: "At moments his touch and confidence is way way off his capability, and of course he missed a gilt edge chance to really capitalise on a purple patch for Town in that first half. But I actually thought today there were green shoots of a return to form. He was just more energetic, more involved and more engaged. He was showing for the ball and getting into dangerous positions. And critically Harness had a poor cameo today, his touch was off. That’s harsh on Marcus as he’s been excellent of late. But it wasn't a display that made you think again - it’s unfair he’s not starting over Nathan."

Not sure why you think I'm not calm. Looking at your posts on this versus mine would suggest it's you who isn't the calm one. I just happen to disagree with your view. You say in the post above we should listen to Mckenna - well you should take your own advice because Mckenna said the atmosphere yesterday was great. Also, don't know why you're defending your views on Harness to me, I've not mentioned him. But as you've brought him up, yes, I agree with your view there.

Come on Town fans - have to be better.. on 15:09 - Dec 3 with 1224 views | thebooks | I thought it was alright yesterday (NS Lower, central kind of area), better than Wed, which was a bit quiet. Don’t the away fans always sing that at the SAR, because it is, well, quiet? I couldn’t hear Coventry from the NS. Still, I do get a sense we’re kind of waiting for Leeds or Southampton to catch us up, rather than having the belief – and resultant noise and passion – for us to carry on. I did think that McKenna was really trying to get us going afterwards – perhaps it seems a little quiet compared to the back end of last season. Playing Depeche Mode at full volume as soon as the match finishes doesn’t help 🤷♂️

I was speaking to a long time ST holder 25+ years so he’s been there from the last premiership days and seen the utter dross of the entire Evans era. He thinks the atmosphere should be a lot better than it has been contextually. Also outside a couple of pockets, 80 per cent of the ground simply don’t sing. They’re just watching the game, stand to briefly cheer goals and clap players on and off the field. That’s basically their role, so it’s never going to be an intimating really noisy place to come.

Come on Town fans - have to be better.. on 17:35 - Dec 2 by TRUE_BLUE123 | Not been great all season. Still can’t understand why the singing section moved to where it is. But today was as you say particularly bad. Can’t understand it. |
Sitting in the West stand near the dug outs we have a better atmosphere coming from A Block than we used to in the section 6 SBR. So much depends on where you sit as to what you hear etc. I think first half the fans were great but it's hard to keep singing when for a lot of the second half we were playing nearer Churchmans than the North stand

Portman Road has never been an easy place to get away from if you travel by car - and I suspect it’s worse now than it’s ever been - plus the larger crowds making things considerably worse. A quick getaway after the game can save 30 mins
