Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:19 - Jan 18 by ChampionsofInnsbruck | I hadn't realised he was playing at the back these days as he was always a winger, but again wouldn't we be better to bed in Humphries as cover in that position rather than sign a guy in his 30's who we might get 4 months out of at best? |
I'd rather have more experience and let Humphreys go on loan and make 'youthful' mistakes elsewhere [Post edited 18 Jan 2024 11:24]

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:21 - Jan 18 by Kieran_Knows | I don't necessarily disagree with you about Humphreys. Be a shame to block his pathway given he stepped up well enough when Davis was out for those games. The only reason I can see for it is that he's that tad more experienced and we were linked in the summer with him and clearly someone McKenna rates and probably feels offers better going forward that Humphreys. |
we are wanting to get humphreys out on loan, heard the davis injury put a delay on him joining another club

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:12 - Jan 18 by ChampionsofInnsbruck | It's going to feel a bit Bonne/Piggot when McKenna first came in, we will be trying to play someone in what became the Ladapo/Hirst position who from my recollection isn't that well suited to it, beyond having a bit of stamina. He certainly won't be scoring for fun, and if you look at what our rivals have up top... |
FFS - do some reading or checking up on what sort of player he is before subjecting us to this absolute bobbins He's a LWB, this is where he has played for Sheff Weds this year - try and put 2 and 2 together with your WIlliams thread from last week and see what you end up with

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:30 - Jan 18 with 1455 views | LankHenners | Underwhelming on the face of it but gets us an experienced back-up LB. If it spells the end for Williams then our RB options are Clarke (who's managing a long term injury) and Tuanzebe (who's an awkward fit, though interesting to hear Edmundson refer to the line-up of himself, Woolf and Axel as a back 3). Another thing if this means Williams is gone is it frees up quite a bit of wriggle room in the wage department and also means we can loan 2 forwards if necessary if we can't sign 1 permanently.

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:16 - Jan 18 by SomethingBlue | I don't understand the bafflement on this thread – it'd be low-cost, experienced backup for Davis. |
I would also expect people to have paid attention to McKenna's approach to players to date and think that, perhaps, he's looking for attributes in a player and, as you say, there is a very obvious drop off without Davis. [Post edited 18 Jan 2024 11:46]

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:14 - Jan 18 by ChampionsofInnsbruck | I agree 100% It seems like baffling business. I guess Ahadme was as well, but at least he had age on his side. It seems like we're clutching at straws. Let's just save the money, play Jackson, and accept we probably will have to limp on with him and Freddy. I don't think we will be promoted if that's the case, but I see no point in spending anything on Johnson. |
You're always clutching at straws looking for the negatives. You'll be fuming once we've signed a couple of strikers, wont ya... [Post edited 18 Jan 2024 11:45]

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:32 - Jan 18 with 1404 views | burnbudgiesburn | From reading owlstalk, he's been one of the pivotal factors in their form improving this season. So there's that. Bit strange for the player tho, going from regular starter to back up at his age.

He's been playing there this season, when he was called back into their squad. He's managed 4 goal contributions in his last 5 games, so i'd suggest that's fairly adequate as a backup. He also played there all of last season.

I'm not overly fussed personally, its just interesting following discussions had yesturday about the characters we bring into the club..

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:22 - Jan 18 by Mediocre_Quick | Could also be a Keoghesque signing where he's coming in to help with Humphires development in that position Would be a good head to have around the squad, despite his behaviour with Burns |
Great character to have - no issue with violent conduct and an agent who is pumping out stories left and right to get away from a sinking ship. No thanks - only way I would have him onboard is if TownTV broadcast Wes greeting him with a punch to the temple and then handshakes all round.

Someone doing one thing in one game does not have to make them a bad character. I'm pretty sure all this stuff gets considered to the finest detail so you can probably spare yourself the concern if he comes.

Looks a decent fit for what we want from that player Marvin Johnson Leif Davis

Marvin Johnson - bid in for him now. on 11:44 - Jan 18 with 1208 views | dirtyboy | If Leif is being sold, then MJ is underwhelming. If Leif is staying, then his addition is understandable. He's got experience, he's doing okay in a pretty terrible team and Leif needs someone to give him a break, he can't play the way he does for 90+ every single game, then we need someone with experience who can do a job. I hope it allows Humphreys to go out on loan if I'm honest, lad needs minutes imo.

Interesting, had thought if we looked for another LB it would be someone who is more a LWB by trade given what McKenna asks from that position. Meant underwhelming on the face of it in terms of a 33-year-old jobber from Wednesday - am fine with the signing if it happens!

It amazes me that people still don't understand that different players suit different managers and with proper coaching they could be a lot better for us than they have been previously. McKenna repeatedly mentions attributes and then he works with them to help them work in our system. Even before McKenna we signed loads of players who looked uninspiring at first glance who proved to be very good signings.
