This whole up/down voting thing 16:32 - Feb 12 with 2495 viewsthebooks

I don’t think I’ve ever downvoted anything. Bit playground, isn’t it?

Was thinking of the Frimley incident…

It’s not worth getting into arguments on message boards, or getting upset. I used to on here back in the day.

I can see why people got annoyed at Frimley, but it’s pretty common for posters to take against (or for) particular players and especially managers. Just the way of things.

On the other hand, I guess we do need to think about the effect of our words.

I’m surprised someone from Wes Burns’ camp actually read the stuff on here. I kind of think they should just ignore it.

Basically, the internet was a terrible invention and we should just dismantle it.

(Cue 643 downvotes 😁)

Must admit I find it all very childish.

I occasionally give an upvote but hardly ever (if ever) give a downvote.

Crying about other posters downvoting them (or others) is right up there with the stupidest and lamest things people complain about on here.

I don't think I've ever downvoted anything. If I like something or disagree with something enough, I'll reply or add to the thread.

I'll upvote things like charity fundraiser type stuff or if there's something related to mental health awareness but that's pretty much it.

I've definitely downvoted a few of your cricket-jinxing posts, otherwise they are for idiocy or obtuseness. Or comedy value.

I give out far more up votes, as Pinewood suggests the easiest way to show agreement with a post.

Out of interest, how many did Frimmy rack up yesterday?

I’m still recovering from -73 on Saturday night. Never been there before. A new experience.

Dunno.

I often choose the downvote as a low stress alternative to getting into an argument with a stranger on the internet - i.e. I still state my displeasure, but save on the tedium of try to argue the toss with someone who won't change their mind/opinion anyway.

I don't recall seeing you being in negative equity with your posts very often, if at all.

It was very surreal.

Ha, I don't think either myself or ITFC_Forever have the lack of self-awareness, or indeed other things to do, to keep up internet arguments like some on here (and Frimmers is by no means the only one who doesn't know when to stop).

There is a bit of weird group-think on some things at the moment though, definitely not just on here, and large numbers of people don't like any post in any way critical of the club.

I get why some people don't like the down votes but I think it's important that if someone says something ridiculous it's a very visual and quick way of showing how much disagreement there is about it. You don't want to have to read every reply, it's summarised there at the top of the screen.

it's also an indicator of the poster themselves on their profile of their average score.

If you liked my post, please take the time to upvote it. It's very much appreciated.

Yeah, I get that. Problem is, can make it easy to pile in on a poster, perhaps?

I mean, I'm all fine with that if you get some fascist goon posting online, but not over football opinions.

Conversely, does show that even posting on a forum can have an effect on the wider world.

I only ended up getting 9 downvotes. Come on TWTD, you can do better than that.
