BBC saying McKenna and Pert want to move on 16:00 - May 22 with 43702 viewsBluebacker

Talks with Ipswich are likely to take place this week and the Tractor Boys are expected to offer McKenna a new deal to convince him to stay at Portman Road.

BBC Sport understands that is expected to fail with the manager, and assistant Martyn Pert, feeling the time is right to move.

Can they not progress their careers here then? odd, I thought we just got promoted to the prem

I think so yes. But if he sees a move as an opportunity to progress quicker, then so be it.

Essentially abandoning us to go to bloody Brighton just as we’ve reached the Premier League I think is fair reason to turn sour, if it happens that is.

If he goes to Chelsea or Man U fair enough you can’t turn that down. But Brighton? Now? Nah, do one.

It says in that BBC story that Chelsea are in pole position.

I’d rather he went to Brighton tbh.

Won’t last past Halloween at Chelsea.

The club and MA must be going mad at all this speculation. Constant noise the last few days & today alone we've had new contracts being discussed & now that KM & Pert both want to leave!

Like you say, i don't see Chelsea happening. Would be a massive risk for them, but then they're an absolute shambles in all honesty so anything is possible.

Welcome to the Premier League! I can't imagine they're happy at all. Chelsea being a massive shambles would be a strong reason for KMc to turn it down even if he was offered it, which I doubt he would be.

Not difficult to guess where that will have come from. Heard before that the agent favours Chelsea as KMc's next club. I don't see that happening.

Should that agents role not be being considered by McKenna? seeing as they seem to actively be pushing that hard, possibly to his detriment.

They are being rather more aggressive than you'd imagine Kieran would like. At the end of the day, their job is to put their client in what they view as the best position they can. However, I'm not sure this is doing him any good assuming he doesn't go to Man U or Chelsea.

Given the calmness of McKenna's personality, this past week has been a media storm around the club on all social outlets, hardly the kind of level headed approach you would expect going into one of the most exciting seasons the club has had in years.

I get McKenna's agents are doing what they can to get him the best deal, but there is a risk that the optics of all this look quite bad and in fact quite greedy, especially if Utd and Chelsea aren't interested in him at this juncture.

McKenna's agency is CAA Base Ltd.

CAA Base are no slouches as agents and are notoriously good for playing the media like a fiddle. This doesn't mean this is nonsense, but it does mean they've probably created a "bidding war" situation and the ultimate goal is probably to have a bunch of options for McKenna to choose from.

Indeed, Brighton very keen but the other two's level of interest is in more serious question. If he doesn't get an offer (and even then if he doesn't go), then briefings that he and MP want to move on potentially don't do him any favours.

It was the "I've shown loyalty" quote from McKenna in your "I love it here" story that made me suspect he was offered the job and turned it down.

I’ll be very sour if he doesn’t give us at least another year. He’s got minimum 20 years left to be a manager, why jump ship now? Makes no sense.

It does if he sees taking Brighton to say a top 6 spot a more feasible prospect than keeping Ipswich up. The latter might suggest he's not 100 per cent confident our squad can stay up, even with additions, which will of course be limited by FFP.

Not a Mummy. Don't have short arms.

There was a time that this being on the BBC would be a massive concern but given the hit and miss nature of some of their recent articles I'm not quite on full alert just yet.

It almost has the vibe of guesswork and is a bit contradictory. Suggesting McKenna and Pert want to go and there is no panic from Ipswich is somewhat at odds. I'm sure we'll have a top replacement identified and lined up, it's what Ashton does, but the no panic bit suggests we think we can keep him whilst the rest is basically saying he wants to go.

Anyone who would act sour towards them for wanting to progress their careers is a buffoon.

Meh. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

I understand the lure in Brighton 100%. I also think it's poor form not to give us a year in the prem. Goes down in my estimations no doubt.

He’s almost manufacturing it that KM HAS to leave. If he creates enough bad blood between the club/MA and McKenna it’s going to ruin any working relationship and trust going forwards. If none of these moves materialise, it’s going to be very difficult moving forward.

These things are easy to say as an Ipswich fan though.

Looking from the outside, if the same was happening with Kompany last year, would we be saying stay at Burnley over going to the other clubs?

I would be disappointed if he left, but ultimately if he thinks he's taken us as far as he can then that's up to him. Until he either leaves or comes out that he's staying, there's really no need for this hostility.

Yep, and I'm genuinely at the point where we need to know one way or the other, all these agents briefings are getting tiresome, clearly he wants a bigger job, which is absolutely fine, but we need clarity and time to organise our own house.

One of the benefits regarding automatic promotion was getting a head start on the PO teams, we run the risk of wasting that valuable time over all of this horse trading.

Well we've already lost that head start on the PO teams, haven't we? They play this weekend and no sane player is going to be keen on putting pen to paper on a deal while this saga continues.

Maybe, just maybe, this is our first taste of why bottom half teams despise the Premier League but can't afford to leave it?
