Not sure that would necessarily be the answer. Maybe somebody with a stronger personality and the ability to manage these two

Not the best answer to it just then. I was hoping it could be settled by a simple 'no', rather than the technical explanation given.

Problem is that the moderator has no power here. You cant moderate without some sort of sanction or authority. Very difficult.

Agree. All I want to hear is a straight "no, I won't raise taxes". But then he didn't raise his hand when asked if it was wrong.

ITV Debate on 21:29 - Jun 4 with 1472 views | Bigalhunter | Just like being on here in 2018. The last bastion of the individual with no defence, no plan and no realistic hope of turning things around. Go down slapping and scratching at everything. It worked for Bruno Fernandez and Man Utd this season, and Suck Ear is no Pep on the opposition bench.

ITV Debate on 21:29 - Jun 4 with 1470 views | Zx1988 | Utterly disingenuous from Sunak on tax on pensions. Acting as if no pensioner currently pays tax. Although, that said, his pensioner mates probably have suitable arrangements in place.

Incredibly frustrating. Allows Sunak to talk over her to get in whatever he likes, and then shuts down the response prompted by what Sunak says. Arguably Starmer is suffering from being more professional and polite. Someone will do an analysis afterwards on how long each spoke for. I expect a significant discrepancy. It needs rule-based moderation from the gantry - microphones switched off unless the participant has been invited to speak.

And surely you need to let something like this breath. I’d like to hear them justify what they’re saying as that’s the only way you get any insight into their reasoning or even if they understand what they’re talking about. That’s by far the worst TV debate I’ve seen and they’re rarely good at the best of times.

Starmer gets two words into an answer and she’s straight in with the ‘ok, alright…’ ffs

I assume that the roles each of them are playing have been extensively focus-grouped by their respective campaign teams. Sunak's base will probably love his aggressive approach, whilst Starmer's camp have probably decided it's best to let Sunak look as aggressive and rude as possible.

it's a dreadful format. there isn't enough time to form a reasonable answer. she starts telling them to stop after about 15 seconds and at the same time is failing to shut sunak up. really pointless.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

The format appears to be based on the idea that Sunak can put questions to Starmer and he must answer them but not vice versa.

Answer the question FFS. Sunak is very aggressive which may grate as time goes on but as a natural Tory voter switching to Labour, I'm not impressed with Starmer under pressure so far.

Sunak's ECHR answer was just weird. Clearly intends to withdraw the UK if required, but doesn't want to explicitly say so.

Agreed on both fronts. I was also irritated at his response re. not using private healthcare for a loved one. I just don't buy it. He looked so shifty after saying 'no' too. He just said it to look like a man of the people. If I'm honest, I'm not impressed with either. Growing feeling of being politically homeless.
