Google suggested searches are an odd thing, but they are an indicator of what people are searching for regards Ipswich. Also says a lot about what other fans know about us, and if honest, the state of grammar.
Here are the main searches on Google today:
- Does Ed Sheeran Own Ipswich? - How is Ipswich doing so well? - What do the 3 stars on Ipswich shirts mean? - Is Ipswich Town in debt? - Is Ipswich the biggest town in England - Is Ipswich the oldest town?
I've lost track of where is a city and where isn't given city status seems to have been granted to dozens of places this century. I think Northampton is the largest town.
No point in asking Google if Ed Sheeran owns us when you could just ask Ollie Palmer...
I thought Reading was the largest town although I don’t know for certain. The built-up area of Bournemouth/Poole/Christchurch has to be up there as one of the most populated places in the country without a city.

we have quite an ancient way of determining towns and citys. i know some countries is more than 100k population = city and less = town. seems logical but i would also hate to be ICFC!

No clue about Northampton & Reading but what I find quite strange about Ipswich & it's population is it's very strict boundaries. For instance Pinewood, Rushmere, Kesgrave & Martlesham would all be classed as Ipswich in those towns - norwich has a fair few like this. But doesn't in Ipswich. All those areas included would be around 200,000 you'd think.

The cities of London and Westminster are both rather small so unofficially/technically perhaps the larger London area (Greater London?) is the largest non-city?

I think the main reason why Ipswich has been unable to secure city status, is through the incompetence of the local council to produce a viable business plan. Looking at the state of the town centre, it's clear they couldnt organise a pee up in a brewery.

Ipswich should stay as a town. Think of ITFC!

I think it strange that Kesgrave is actually a town.

Brighton and Hove is a city.
I stand corected:
"Is Brighton a town or a city? 10 fun facts about Brighton An important first fact is that Brighton is actually formally known as the city of Brighton and Hove. The towns of Brighton and Hove formed a unitary authority in 1997 and were granted city status by Queen Elizabeth II in 2001. Many locals still consider the two to be separate towns."

AS a youngster I was always led to beieve that City status was depended upon whether a plac e had a cathedral, but this is now far from the truth. Norwich is a small City by today's standards, but was once considered the second capital of England (weaving?) Now City/ Towns are just meaningless labels it seems.
ITFC is fine by me.
