Other than people guessing this person is trans, is there any actual evidence? The fact that tests from different organisations have come to different conclusions would suggest to me they may be intersex like Caster Semenya but that's a complete guess.

Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck. Fights like a man, sounds like a man, it's a man.

That's not really how biology works, hence mentioning intersex people.

From what information's out there it seems that's likely the case. She and the other boxer who have this hanging over them have been competing for years and it's only last year they were barred from a competition when whichever authority was in charge tightened the eligibility rules. What's not helped clear things up is the refusal to disclose exactly what was tested for that led to them being banned.

This may have something to do with it: The International Olympic Committee has defended its decision to allow two boxers who failed testosterone and gender eligibility tests at the 2023 world championships to compete in Paris. Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu‑ting of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) were disqualified from the 2023 women’s world championships with the International Boxing Association president, Umar Kremlev, saying DNA tests had “proved they had XY chromosomes and were thus excluded”." https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/jul/30/ioc-defends-allowing-boxer If the IOC consider the use of weight categories necessary to protect athletes from harm resulting from mismatch, it seems odd that they should disregard chromosome testing. What are your views on this Dan?

I am prepared to be corrected but it seems an unholy mess and one that doesn't do the sport any credit https://www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2024/08/01/olympic-womens-boxing-live-imane

My views are that I have nowhere near enough information to say that the other boxer is trans. You can have different chromosomes than your sex, biology is just not that simple. What do we do with people with three chromosomes? Do they get a separate category?

A woman boxer had to fight a man boxer… on 13:10 - Aug 1 with 10561 views | Trequartista | This is heartbreaking and was predicted. Forget all the froth over the opening ceremony, this is far more important. Effectively domestic violence as an Olympic sport. How on earth can inclusivity trump safety?

I watched Semenya run in the World Championships against Laura Muir and co. The race was a complete waste of time. A farce. They may as well have given Semenya the gold medal and let the others run for the crumbs in a proper race.

100% but I don’t think it’s clear if the 2 boxers in question were born men or women. What is clear is they were banned by another international organisation when a test returned XY chromosomes and that’s enough in my opinion.

Time for all the legit ladies to pull out as a sign of unity and shove it up the IOCs butt. 4 years of hard work to get obliterated by a man. It's certainly not a woman.

Understandable. My primary point is the suggestion (in my mind, perhaps I've misread) that this is a trans person and not someone with a DSD. If the other test was just chromosome based that certainly doesn't make someone trans. As soon as you're in the intersex realm it gets incredibly difficult to assign biological sex.

Boxing is weird full-stop. The aim is to punch your opponent unconscious. Amazed it’s still an actual sport.

I think they are DSD so not Trans, but it's utterly abhorrent that they are in the female category at the Olympics after being banned from the World Boxing Championships Shame on the IOC, blood on their hands - and another boxer to follow

Considering how tiny a percentage for the worlds population is DSD, it's very difficult to see with their successes in womens sport that they should be eligible for it. In the 800m at Rio Olympics, all 3 medallists were DSD. Biology wise, if you are effectively naturally able to produce high levels of testosterone - and have been able to at some point in your life (i.e. Transwomen who have gone through puberty, or DSD where they need to try and suppress it with medication) you simply have an unfair advantage in women's sport. There is no way to make sport both inclusive and fair

Why I find some of the reporting/reaction to this whole thing a bit weird. You'd think no-one's ever been hit hard in boxing before the way some are going on.
