Time Taken To Close Deals 08:47 - Aug 3 with 9529 viewsSheffordBlue

We never know when contact between clubs is initiated, etc but just to give some indication of how long deals have taken for us this summer the list below shows how long it was between the first credible media story on us being after the player and the player signing for us:

Townsend - 1
Muric - 4
Johnson -8
Delap - 23
Greaves - 24
Hutchinson - 33

Szmodics is currently 22 days and counting

[Edit: Title amended to reduce any potential confusion]

You’ve taken this the wrong way very wrong.

It’s a post to try and calm down the flouncers, people have been saying we should walk away from the Szmodics deal etc.

The title is just the title of what it is, without it we’d have no idea what the post was…?

I'd admitted I'd read it wrong almost an hour before you decided to wade in.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I've read the whole thing, thanks. What's you point?

Think you misread it mate (but understandable as it could have been taken either way by the title). It wasn't a direction "we need to close deals now" it was a literal "here are the times it has taken to close deals".

Edit: soz yes you already got it well in advance of this.

Some deals take longer, especially when dealing with Blackburn. I am confident that if we really want him, we will get him. Personally, I think he is worth the time effort and money involved. Don't want to be held to ransom, (which I don't think Ashton will let happen) but if the price isn't stupid, then willing to wait for it. Great business by the club so far.

Poll: New hobby suggestions for NeedhamChris.

"Time taken to close deals" would have avoided the confusion, otherwise it reads like "time to close deals Mr Ashton".

It's far too hot and everybody is getting rather irritable.

I am concerned there'll be an outburst of wailing and gnashing of teeth if we don't win this lunchtime, despite it being really nothing more than a training and team organisation excercise.

I don't understand why people are telling the experts how to do their job without even knowing hardly any of the details. It's supposed to be done quietly and under the radar.

Is it possible that other deals can be dealt with concurrently and the whole recruitment team isn't sat around The Sammy Phone doing nothing at Portman Road waiting for Blackburn to ring up to accept our offer.

You'd imagine that they would get Morsy to man the Sammy Phone. I can just imagine the conversation now:
"Hello, this is Sammy, could I speak to Sammy please?"
"This is Sammy speaking, good to hear from you Sammy"
"Blackburn are really Pea Sammy off right now"

It’s almost as though footballers are like real people and might want to take a balanced view as to what the job and locality are like, schools, housing, etc. - not to mention hanging on for a better offer and the agent haggling for more money off both the buying and selling club.

In Town’s case the media circus surrounding the manager’s disloyalty probably didn’t help in the early days. Plus whilst Ashton might be able to order paper clips and A4 paper without approval - unlike the Evans era, I suspect the odd £20 million here or there has to get transatlantic approval in Ohio and Arizona.

Am thinking the down arrow is the suggestion of KMc being disloyal. I don't think he can really be accused of that, is he not entitled to consider other jobs too the same way footballers are? (that's rhetorical not aimed at you Vic)

You know he did that for a fact do you? His agent was possibly looking for a good deal for him as thats his job. He was hot property at the time with the LMA awards etc we really have no idea if he wanted away or was trying to get the club to commit to signings, look for a better contract etc.

A 500% pay increase for doing the same job he was overindulged in and overpaid for had nothing to do with his decision I suppose?

I very much doubt anyone at the club regards him in quite the same way any more.

Whether his greed and opportunism have any effect on a tightly knit squad or leadership group we won’t know for a while.

One things for sure - the Americans will be quick to turn on him if/when things start to go pear-shaped.

That's the name of the game. People in higher leagues earn higher salaries. It's a bit obscene that amount of money clubs throw around and more often than not not sustainable, but that's what you need to do in order to stand a chance at being competitive.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Time Taken To Close Deals on 13:37 - Sep 3 with 828 viewsSheffordBlue

Now the window has finally closed I make it 71 players that we were linked with from credible media sources (and that's a very subjective term so others might have more).

The average length of time from a deal appearing in the media to theplayer signing was 17 days. The quickest was 1 day for Townsend and the longest Szmodics at 35. If the Broja deal had gone through it would have been 115.

Conor Townsend – 1
Chiedozie Ogbene -2
Kalvin Phillips - 4
Arijanet Muric - 4
Ben Johnson – 9
Dara O’Shea - 18
Jens Cajuste -18
Liam Delap – 23
Jacob Greaves – 24
Omari Hutchinson – 33
Jack Clarke - 33
Sammie Smozdics – 35

According to Phil he was very close to joining Palace mid season and the Brighton talks over the summer reached quite an advanced stage. Not saying he touted himself to those clubs but he certainly entertained their offers it would seem.

I’m not at all a ITK type of person but on this I am kinda.

KM had no real interest in leaving ITFC in the summer but still listened to what Brighton had to say. But both him and his family are well settled in Suffolk and didn’t want to leave.

Can’t say how I know this but it’s true.

He was very close and some players had started looking elsewhere too.
