Not fair on people like me who have been at games like us losing 5-2 to Lincoln etc but only go to a couple of away games each year. But suddenly cant go to any. 60 tickets in a ballot out of 3000. They may as well have not bothered. |
I attend an average amount of away games a year (5 or 6 a season) but there is no way I should have the right to attend a game above those who trekked the length and breadth of the country last year on a regular basis. Closed shop will soon open up if we are relegated or we get a few far away cup trips.

fastest finger first…. on 11:53 - Aug 8 by davblue | that's your choice though. Just because you saw a bad defeat in league 1 doesn't mean you should qualify for tickets if you don't go regularly. How do the club quantify that? I get it's frustrating but if you only go to a couple of away games a year then there's not too much to grumble about. I haven't been able to go to away games close to me had to go to Preston and Middlesborough to get to some away games last year. |
Why does going regularly mean you should have a priority at all? This year we could fill 3000 every game on a ballot basis anyway. I don't get that just cos someone can afford financially to do it every other weekend that means they should have the priority to do it all the time. Being able to go to only a couple of away games a year isn't necessarily a "choice" for many.

It's hard on a lot of fans but it's the fairest system I can think of. I tend to go to the Northern away games as they are within close driving distance. Over the past few years that has meant Accrington, Morecambe, Fleetwood etc. Last year we had seven within driving distance and I made 6 of those. So I am way down the pecking order. Tis year the northern games are City, United, Liverpool, Newcastle etc so there is far greater demand. But it's fair that people who trek up and down the country, no matter how far the distance should get first go at these games than I do.

Says the guy who got tickets anyway for the Man City game. Look, I can see Im getting a pile on from all the people who go to these away games. All I want is to be able to go to 1 or 2 premier league away games this season. I don't think that's unreasonable and can I say I feel its pretty selfish for a lot of people to just say I go regularly to them all and therefore Im more entitled.

because they are able to support the team, be able to expend the time and or financial commitments. It's not just a financial decision it's something they want to do and they should be rewarded for that. loyalty There's a counter argument the people that have jumped on the bandwagon in the last year why should they get the same level of access that someone who has been following for the last 2-3 years? I don't have high points, i can't go to every home or away game, i've tended to be in the 7 to 15 games a season because of the travel, family im not expecting to be able to get to many this year because of demand. I get that a closed shop isn't ideal for new supporters, but it's supply and demand, our stadium doesn't have the capacity at the moment and at this current time we are well supported, fans engaged. I get you are disappointed and sorry about that but you might get lucky in a ballot and hope you will be able to really enjoy itif you get the chance.

Well you will be pleased to know I don't set club policy decisions. But as someone who has been following the team since the 1980s and visited a significant number of grounds over the years Im disappointed that any band wagon jumper since then has the temerity to usurp me. I don't see any new supporter as bandwagon jumper, but just a supporter like me, regardless of length of service. I didn't even have an away member ship last year which it transpires has hampered me even more as effectively I had zero carry over points and all this malarkey. So yes Im disappointed and im venting, and then ill move on.

Your last sentence is true (and I don't really like the 'well you should have made more of an effort' attitude that's crept in to parts of the fanbase), and it is tough for people who have only been able to go to a few away games within their means that they now sort of get frozen out of attending, but there's just too much demand to leave it to a free for all. Tbf when I saw they'd only held back 60 tickets for a ballot I'd assumed they'd calculated that the tickets would make their way down the priority ladder a bit more, but maybe they let enough go through to make sure 15+ people had a chance as if it only went to 20+ then that could maybe be seen as a bit harsh.

FWIW the opposite argument is being had by some upset England fans atm - they have 30% of tickets balloted at random (with 70% going to the top points holders) and fans who have been to 12 of the last 14 England games losing out on tickets to Ireland away, potentially to a member who joined the club last week and has zero points. No system is perfect and it will always leave people upset. I think 2% of tickets for a ballot is a pisstake personally as it barely moves the dial, but I also would expect those who are close to the 15+ window to be upset if it was significantly more.

Exactly that. It dawned on me today that my aspirations to go to a couple of away games is pretty much zero. And I just don't think that's right. I think all season ticket holders / away member ship holder should at least get a guarantee of 1 away match. And that it seems by down votes is an entirely unreasonable position to take.

The only concern i have is that it won't be long until quite a few move bands from 15+ to 20+ which in turn means the tkt sales won't even reach the 15+ making it vital to jump bands asap before getting stuck in a band where sales don't reach you

I e-mailed a screenshot to the club, then followed up with a phone call by which time, my basket auto-emptied. I asked if they kept any back for contingency in case of issues but they don't. Then told me they had tickets aside for a ballot which they could not dip into for legal reasons. To say I'm not happy is an understatement. Missing out on a sold out game itself is one thing, but when the tickets are in your basket and then you don't get them through a system error is another matter. |
I missed out on Liverpool tickets because the app booted me out and sent me to the back of the queue. That’s the problem with relying on technology. I’m not really sure what you can do or what liability the club have, presumably they could say it’s as likely your bank or internet?

We did. But I also support Mark Ashtons views that we have to welcome the new generation of fans. Many of them will stick around. And they are needed. Ive gone from buying a season ticket in the McCarthy end days more out of club loyalty to almost a sense of guilt that Ive got two season tickets now stopping others going. Yeah got to try and go to as many as possible early doors. Hoping for an away Carabao cup fixture which isn't miles away to get another point on the board. Problem is after Brighton and Southampton which could just make the 10+ band, we've got Spurs, West Ham and Brentford which will go like hot cakes which will put people in the lower bands even further behind. Unfortunate in a way that most of our games which are ripe for building up points are after the ones which you'd want to try and build up for in the first place!

I do deny it. As Ive said anyway who is a season ticket holder or spent money getting an away membership, should have a guarantee of at least one away match. Or what's the point of the away membership at £30? I probably would have had 16 points if I had bought the poxy away membership and not used my season ticket priority instead. People who go regularly away should feel that they could miss a few games for the greater good of the wider fanbase.

Don’t disagree with that at all. My 8 year old is in the same category as me, so I’m Trying to get him to see some premier league games also, as who knows we might only be there for a year and not be back for a while. So lets do some Maths. Lets assume there's 6000 people applying each match for 3000 tickets. That would leave 3000 going into a ballot for 60 tickets or a one in fifty chance of being successful. That would mean on average a successful application roughly once every 3 seasons. Or an extrapolation either way based on the actual average number of people in the ballot. Hope my maths was right after all that lol.
