I do wonder 23:07 - Aug 9 with 3306 views | mikeybloo88 | whether the club have written off the first two games and that is why there is no urgency to make new signings? Be nice to take a point off Liverpool but our season will be dictated elsewhere. Maybe more important to get the correct signings rather than be rushed into season opening signings?
I do wonder on 23:12 - Aug 9 with 3225 views | southnorfolkblue | I don’t think they’re written off, but they won’t define our season. We still have a decent starting team for next week. I think we’ll see a lot of movement once the season has started and certain wheels start to fall into place

I do wonder on 23:12 - Aug 9 with 3224 views | Ipswich24 | We worked that hard to do the unthinkable to write games off! I don't think so. This is Ipswich Town under McKenna

I do wonder on 23:13 - Aug 9 with 3217 views | Marshalls_Mullet | Yeah, that sounds just like Ashton and McKennas mentality....
| |
I dont think you can realistically state that there is no urgency... on 23:18 - Aug 9 with 3151 views | Marshalls_Mullet | Its a very difficult market, lots of clubs after the same players. We did well to get lots of business done early. Just because things are now taking longer, it doesnt mean there is no urgency.

I do wonder on 23:38 - Aug 9 with 3010 views | Nutkins_Return | Surely you wondered that for a few seconds and then immediately realised we're not a club that writes anything off any more. It's not about not being in a rush. We got a lot of really good business done early but it's now proving really hard. The reality is for a team coming up to attract the quality we need is not easy. And we have to also guard against inflated fees and get the value we need for compliance. That really is the long and short of it.

I do wonder on 23:45 - Aug 9 with 2971 views | Bigalhunter | ‘Don’t worry lads, we still have time to find some better options than you lot. We can write these two games off because they’re free hits and won’t decide our fate’ Sorry, that is utter bollox thinking. Writing off any games has never entered the team mentality for the last two seasons. [Post edited 9 Aug 2024 23:46]

I do wonder on 23:45 - Aug 9 with 2970 views | Vegtablue | Good performances in those games could do wonders for convincing targets that we have what it takes.
I do wonder on 23:51 - Aug 9 with 2904 views | noubledooble | Probably one of the worst things I’ve read on here. No one writes off a game. Football and sport is about winning no matter how hard it might be. Try your best at all times and you never know what you might achieve. Ask Maidstone. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
I do wonder on 00:28 - Aug 10 with 2775 views | J2BLUE | Or the club know who they want and understand how the transfer window works. Some of you seem to want us to just bring someone (anyone!) in and forget they are going to cost us millions and then be given a 3+ year deal on top.

I do wonder on 08:39 - Aug 10 with 2211 views | Blue_Heath | NO way KM would write any game off. Sure two of the toughest games but a great time to play both in my opinion while we are still relatively unknown to them and they have many players back late from euros etc.
I do wonder on 08:55 - Aug 10 with 2173 views | Bobbychase | I don't think it's in Ashton or McKenna's DNA to write games off.

I do wonder on 09:20 - Aug 10 with 2073 views | Vaughan8 | You've raised two points 1. I don't think we're writing off any games. It's not like we've got no players. Are we likely to get only 1 or 0 from these two games. Yes, regardless of if we have other players or not. 2. No urgency to make new signings? Not sure where you've got that from. I've obviously got no knowledge of how things work, but it seems to be harder buying players this summer because teams know we have money (and may try to rip us off and we don't want to pay those prices) and we're competing with other premier league teams for players signatures.
I do wonder on 09:30 - Aug 10 with 2013 views | Guthrum | I think your last sentence is correct. And, to an extent, the middle one - tho the performance against top opposition will be an important marker. But I don't believe we would write off any game, nor that there is any lack of urgency, certainly not for that reason. If things are moving apparently slowly, it's because we are chasing specific targets within a certain price range and it rarely just falls into your lap under those circumstances.

I do wonder on 09:42 - Aug 10 with 1977 views | billlm | I say some stupid things, but McKenna will write nothing off he's a winner, we're here to win not make up the numbers,
I do wonder on 10:12 - Aug 10 with 1886 views | GlasgowBlue | I doubt the directors, manager or players are writing anything off. They will be trying 100% to win both games. However, they are not going to panic and sign just anyone in order to get players through the door just because the season starts next week. They will want the right players and if that means waiting until the end of the window then that’s what they’ll do. Where I have some understanding of what you are saying is that the first two games are not ones that will define our season so there is less pressure to make panic signings. I’ll also add that it will be a lot harder to convince good players to come here if we are spanked in our first two games so there is no way we will be writing those games off. I do wonder on 10:15 - Aug 10 with 1871 views | Leedsblue1 | Can you imagine if this question was put to McKenna and Ashton at the fans forum if it was held last night for instance. Ashton would be visibly annoyed and shake his head and god knows what McKenna would say as you’re suggesting McKenna isn’t going out to get a result in the first two matches and treating them as free hits. We’ve spent over twice upfront in fees already than Luton did last season and thank god we have Ashton in charge of our transfers. He won’t let us be held to ransom and that’s why the owners trust him to spend what he does. We’ve got x4 players in Greaves, Muric, Omari and Johnson who will all start so x4 positions upgraded. Delap I wouldn’t say is an automatic starter when everybody is fit but could force his way in and Townsend is important cover for Leif that we needed. Let the club do their jobs and stop questioning what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. The club is operating in a different place to when they took over. Two divisions higher and the money they’ve spent (and still are as we speak) on the ground is huge. Let’s enjoy what’s going on and look at it once the window is shut and see where we’re at then.
I do wonder on 10:32 - Aug 10 with 1791 views | berkstractorboy | To suggest there is no urgency suggests you have evidence the club are doing nothing. Do you know this? I am frustrated as any other sensible Town fan that wants us to have landed main targets and have them in and on the training pitch by now. But we are in a whole new dimension now in the transfer market. We aren't bodyshopping we are after targets to improve us. We don't have the money/PSR position to just buy people freely like Chelsea and West Ham are and players will look at us as newcomers and have reservations about possible relegation. Your suggestion is wild and makes me think you have never listened to anything MA and KMc have said. [Post edited 10 Aug 2024 11:36]

I do wonder on 10:45 - Aug 10 with 1748 views | tractorboy1978 | Not sure why you are getting so much flak for this post to be honest. I don't think we have 'written off' the first two games but I do think we would be feeling more pressure for the squad to be in better shape if our first two games were Southampton and Leicester.
I do wonder on 10:46 - Aug 10 with 1744 views | textbackup | We have the manager a contract for about £7283m a year, he/they aren’t going to accept defeat in any games!

I do wonder on 10:53 - Aug 10 with 1718 views | Pinewoodblue | A good performance &/ or result against Liverpool could certainly define our season. Would also influence any signings between the game and closing of the transfer window. It would show we mean business, and not going to do a Norwich.

Quite. A decent start can give the whole squad a lot of confidence, & set the tone for the season - think the OP's forgotten Wilnis v ManU & the season that ensued!
