Little word for Jack Taylor 19:32 - Sep 21 with 5726 viewsNthQldITFC

I know he didn't have long on the pitch, but I thought he looked really sharp and positive in what he did. His speed off the mark gave them a couple of problems if I remember correctly, and that was a brilliant tackle that caused the flare up.

He'll have a tough old job getting into regular contention, but I wouldn't write him off yet. He's definitely got the athleticism for the PL.

Thought he did OK and not looked out of place.

Still an opportunity for a 5th choice midfielder.

One thing which would make him get more minutes..... unleashing some 25 yard screamers like he did a couple of times last year. Needs to shoot more.

Yes. I think he added a bit more impetus to our game. And agree, that was a great tackle and never a free kick.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

A much improved spell from Taylor. Pleased for him. He didn’t hide up, showed guts and determination to succeed at this level. Likely, Some good coaching behind the scenes as well.

The time he got he was good and he was definitely required at the time he came on.

Yep, fair play to him, thought he was out best player on the pitch in last ten mins.

Agree with all of that other than the "definitely" has the athleticism bit, as I'm not sure Southampton is a good reference point for that

Taylor was one of the better players today, did more in the last 1/3 he was on than Cajuste did. Early days but from far from impressed with Cajuste so far, how did he feature 26 times in Serie A and in Europe for Napoli beggars belief. Might as well continue with Luongo if Philips isn't fit.

European football is played at walking pace. He might adapt but certainly don't disagree based on what I've seen.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I must admit that, apart from injuries, I had thought it would be unlikely we would see him on the pitch in the Premier League.

What struck me most about his performance was that he was much more composed on the ball than I had ever seen him, and I don't think he gave the ball away at all. It looks like they have been working on this aspect of his game.

By far our most effective sub yesterday, straight in with a meaty tackle too (think it was him)

I am surprised he's still pulling on the shirt tbh.... I kinda imagined that his stuttering penalty against Wimbledon would have been him sidelined and marked for disposal

He had a good impact on the game and put in a few robust tackles.... Spirit of Brandon Williams

And you've reached this conclusion based on what exactly.

The writing off of players on approx 90 mins of premier league football is ridiculous

You beat me to the punch. It's genuinely ridiculous that our support are so keen to write players off, based on so little evidence. A couple of weeks ago Muric was a waste o money and we should have kept Hladky.

And Cajuste wasn't even 'bad' yesterday, just a fairly unremarkable performance, and perhaps didn't impose himself as much as we'd like.

Perhaps taylor looked better as he was playing against tired players.

Think Cajuste did OK tbh. Can't see he did any less than morsy in the middle personally.

a niche perspective

Well that's quite the hot take.

He has the ability to improve / progress. My one concern is he has looked better as a sub than a starter. Last season he came on as sub for a couple of games and changed the game, but then started the next game and didn't have anywhere near the same influence.
But he should be aiming to be ahead of Luongo this season.

Exactly right.

What also amazes me is how many people must never have played the game or understand how much more difficult it is to stand out when starting Vs coming on fresh against tiring legs etc.

How many games has Taylor started and had rave reviews. Lot of credit for Taylor doing well coming on and still being in and around it. Phillips, Morsy and Cajuste are clear first choice 3 for the two spots.

Did the ref inscribe his name in the book backwards with the pencil clenched between his buttocks, whilst holding a daffodil in his mouth and wearing a tea cosy on his head?

I think Delap got booked for the afters if I'm forced to be serious for a minute.
