God save the king? Come on, why would he?
Well plenty of people who don't believe in God sing it. It's a message of support for the country. Given that we only ever sing the first verse, there are plenty of other countries which have more controversial words to their anthems, but it doesn't mean that everyone singing it necessarily is expressing some specific creed other than "good on the country, let's win this game". The French anthem for example - "may impure blood nourish our furrows" - much worse if one takes it literally.
I can't imagine a typical German really having a problem with the idea of the King being protected and having a long reign. When it was written, our king was German-born, and the two countries had no problems with each other. Right now, the countries have no problem with each other, and the words of the first verse don't say anything mean about any other peoples.
If I was in a similar position (obvs I won't be), I wouldn't have a problem singing nice things about the Spanish king, the Belgian king, the Norwegian King, the Danish king or the Dutch king. I have no idea whether those countries specifically mention their monarchs in their anthems, but I'd certainly be fine with it either way.
I really don't mind whether Tuchel fancies singing or not, but I don't see why it needs a "come on". He'll be managing us and wanting us to win. It's not a given that he would find the idea appalling.

He's said he hasn't decided yet about that, which is 1) fair enough and 2) entirely his choice.
But if he chooses not to,which is 1) still fair enough and 2) still entirely his choice. his decision will be entirely about respecting it,the fans the nation the flag, the however you want to sum it up feeling and not some made up excuse about wanting to clear his mind before a big game.

Actually it's been quite interesting with the replies.
Not ones like yours. But those who've added a bit of their thoughts about their beliefs and what others think of the national anthem itself. Quite a bit I never knew of so I've enjoyed the replies.

Some won't sing it on the basis they don't support the idea of a monarchy, on the other side of that, many will sing it even with no belief in God - why do they sing it if they have no faith?
Because it's a song that's been picked to represent the country. I don't like it, but until it's changed, that's its role, despite the silly lyrics which I don't have to believe in to sing. The anthem is just a metphor for "I'm supporting my country here".
Why should he? He's been hired for his coaching skills, not his singing skills. The predictable script is already written. If he brings success no one will mention it. Draw or worse still lose a meaningless Nations League game at home and it will be "kraut this and kraut that" "two world wars, one world cup". Yawn. Who really cares?

Indeed… if it was his signing skills he wanted to show off, he’d have joined a club side, like United perhaps. National managers don’t make signings, they just select the players they want…
