Genuinely, one of the most ridiculous passages of tv I've ever seen. Even with multiple slow mo replays, and 2 professional footballers explaining it to him, he can't work out what's gone on.
If that's the standard of refereeing we've got, then we might as well give up now.
If it wasn't so annoying, it would actually be hilarious. You can see the utter bewilderment on everyone's faces. Can't they just admit that it was an error?

INCIDENT: Leicester's Abdul Fatawu barged into Ipswich's Conor Chaplin in the box, but penalty appeals were immediately waved away.
DERMOT SAYS: "The VAR did check that because I listened to it. It was felt the referee's on-field call was the correct call. He makes the call and there's not enough to overturn.
"We asked earlier in the season for the referees to make decisions and, if you look at the referee, he has the perfect position and he immediately waves it away.
"When the VAR asks him what he sees, he will relay that back. They said it was not a clear and obvious error so the game went on.
"If I was the VAR, I don't think I could get involved."
Warnock 'frustrated' by decision
STEPHEN WARNOCK SAYS: "I think that's a clear and obvious mistake from the referee and that is where I'd rather the VAR came in and said they thought a mistake had been made, so go to the screen and have another look.
"I understand we want to see referees taking more control - I get that - but it's a penalty. That's the most frustrating part of it.
"Kieran McKenna was incensed on the sidelines and rightly so."

I'm sure it's the point of the segment to make people like us angry, but bloody hell its worked.
They are all genuinely making it up as they go along. VAR has made the game much, much worse and they can't even lean on the fundamental understanding that it's worth the huge detrimental impact because we are getting things right because we obviously aren't.

Warnock is superb on ref watch.
Every week he just cannot believe what he is hearing from Gallagher, who is utterly useless.

Well said Stephen Warnock.
Dermott Gallagher filed under "tw@t" along with Tim Robinson & Stuart Attwell.

His comments there perfectly sum up the problem - VAR has very evidently got involved in issues this season which aren’t clear and obvious errors. Obviously what constitutes an offence will always be subjective to a degree (which is why VAR was always doomed to fail in the first place) but they seem to make it up every week, every game as to what rules of theirs they’re implementing and how.
Doesn’t help that the refs and PGMOL as a whole are too afraid of scrutiny and accountability so just back themselves at every turn and wang on about what new % of decisions have supposedly been correct which never seems believable.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Key thing for me is that Chaplin was in total control of the ball. It wasn't a 'coming together of bodies' or however they want to determine it. He shifts the ball to the left and gets Fatawu's full bodyweight smash through the front of him. It is absolutely stonewall. Not even up for debate.

Absolutely right. Gallagher must think we're blind, stupid or both.

Apparently the ref told VAR that he thought it was a "coming together". Dermot Gallagher basically said that because he'd said that, it wasn't a clear and obvious error.
Warnock pointed out that there was no coming together element, Chaplin has shifted the ball and moved sidewards to avoid the challenge, and been cleaned out by the defender, Gallagher argues black is white, and that it is just a coming together. No pen.

Just like in the Everton game then....

so just clarify
they want the ref to make a decision which if its in favour of Ipswich VAR will over rule but if its in favour of the opposite VAR will ignore

Honestly mate. None of it makes sense to me. I don't know when VAR is meant to be involved or when it isn't.
But if they are still sticking with Clear and Obvious, the threshold of which seems to change game by game. I am still utterly baffled that they have looked at that incident and concluded that it is not a clear and obvious error. But then again, Gallagher says its not a foul because he "stands his ground" wtf does that even mean. Appalling.

I don’t think the ref had the clearest of views to be honest, he was blocked by Jack Clarke right at the point of contact.

Thanks Sitters. To be honest, I wish I hadn't seen that cause I'm now even more depressed! I cannot believe that, after being pressed to give an answer, Gallagher said he thought it was not a penalty because it was "a coming together". Well done to Stephen Warnock and the lady (sorry, don't know her name) for not allowing Gallagher to get away with that.
How the hell was Gallagher allowed to referee at top level for so long?
That has set me up for a great Monday!

Sue Smith, really good pubdit as well. Despite being an Everton fan was very strong on that it was wrong for VAR to overturn our penalty against them. Thought it was probably a penalty, but certainly wasn't a clear and obvious error.

Obviously, we should let this go - for our own sanity if nothing else, but...
Gallagher says at 3.30 (ish) on the clip 'watch the referee' as he waves away the appeals. Two things to note:
1) Firstly, that's completely irrelevant and suggests a referee with a good view can't make a mistake, which is clearly nonsense 2) PAUSE THE CLIP at the point of contact - the referee's view is COMPLETELY BLOCKED BY CLARKE!!
