Ref watch about to start on Sky Sports News on 11:55 - Nov 4 by TRUE_BLUE123
Warnock is superb on ref watch.
Every week he just cannot believe what he is hearing from Gallagher, who is utterly useless.
I've never watched that before, but what's the point of it if Gallagher says he doesn't think it's a penalty on its own merits (putting aside the process). Bloke is a Trumpian post-truth tw@t apologist for a corrupt system if he's standing there saying that's not a penalty and it's a coming together.
Warnock, I think, would have liked to have said more to him but has a job to keep. What a load of bent bollox.

To be fair to Warnock, he was brilliant in trying to get past the process rubbish, about clear and obvious error, but then when Gallagher stated that he thought outright it wasn't a penalty, he was completely lost.... how can you argue with someone who can't use their eyes?

Obviously, we should let this go - for our own sanity if nothing else, but...
Gallagher says at 3.30 (ish) on the clip 'watch the referee' as he waves away the appeals. Two things to note:
1) Firstly, that's completely irrelevant and suggests a referee with a good view can't make a mistake, which is clearly nonsense 2) PAUSE THE CLIP at the point of contact - the referee's view is COMPLETELY BLOCKED BY CLARKE!!
Indeed, was just going to post re the latter. He couldn't have seen the whole incident properly.

Even if he does see it there, by looking straight down that line he doesn't see the distance Chaplin shifts it as is straight back towards him so it's not a perfect view (although not because of taking up a bad position, but just how the incident played out)
Ref watch about to start on Sky Sports News on 12:52 - Nov 4 by PhilTWTD
I wonder whether he didn't see Conor take his touch inside, thought they collided going for a loose ball.
Doubt VAR even bothered to look at the other angles because had they watched the one from behind the goal then surely it would’ve been said to have a look.
The bottom line is, we cannot control the process. We just need to ensure we are at least 2 goals clear to win a game in this League, as we have to plan for there to be a decisive decision against us. I think if we do that, it is a pretty good mindset to go into games with anyway.

Indeed, even the most perfect position can be impacted by where players happen to be.

But even if that was the case, the ball remained close to Conor and under his control when the defender clattered into him. Either Robinson saw that and made the wrong decision, or he didn't see it clearly enough. In either case, he cocked up, and so did the VAR.

And he is like that every week.
Anything to defend his mates. Same with Mike Dean whenever he is on the tele. Warnock looks permanently confused by him and rightly so. It genuinely infuriates me.

Yep.
or the linesman ? Do linesmen do anything anymore ? He had the perfect view.
I've been annoyed on behalf of other teams incidents let alone my team.
Gallacher just sides with what the refs says, or makes excuses............."its not clear and obvious" which maybe he thinks that, but thats irrelevant. An offside by a toe isn't clear and obvious either but its given.

In that case, as I said to Phil, he shouldn't have told VAR that he didn't think it was a foul (unconditionally).
That is aside from the fact that VAR should have been stronger - told him that he thought he may have made a mistake.

It would be interesting to know if Robinson and Atwell were having an exchange regarding the penalty incident at the same time Phillips goes in for his tackle - surely that must be distracting for a referee and could lead to an incorrect or hasty decision on a separate incident? I can't concentrate on anything else when my kids are in my ear!!

To be honest, I've now seen the incident a number of times from, I think, three different angles and each time it looks as obvious a penalty as it did live. There's no doubt that VAR should have told Robinson to take a second look.

Indeed, if the Phillips incident hadn't happened maybe more time may have been spent looking at the penalty incident. There was too much going on and Robinson appeared to want to move on to deal with the sending off.

It's all a bit Emperor's New Clothes. And that calls into question the integrity of the PGMOL.
Jesu Mary and all the saints what a farce, how after seeing that footage and have it explained by an ex pro can he come up with that ?
Just shows you they are covering ass, the most clear and obvious error you will ever see. Then you move on to Brentford and Everton where the ref didn’t give or did give and VAR overturned when it clearly was debatable and not an obvious error.
As others have said we are toast if this is the standards

Wow wow wow. Maybe refs need to have a certain IQ to be one. DG clearly has a low IQ if he says it's a collision and not a foul. After watching this just confirms for me that it is all corrupt. I'd like to ask him why the initial free-kick was given then as that was less of a foul than the penalty. But we know the answer.....it is easier to give a foul for that out side the box than in it.

Nothing is going to change. Referees are digging in. I didn’t think so in the past but I would feel better if PL refs sometimes said, “I’m sorry, I made a mistake.”

We need to move on, use the anger, BUT one point from me... on 13:56 - Nov 4 with 1419 views
Its a really poor decision, VAR then failed to do its job, and as Phil shows in the photo below... the ref did not have good line of sight! so he needs to communicate with VAR.
And also the Sky pundit make a really good point that Chaplin had moved the ball onto his left to shoot, before being clattered into. Which is key.
But a final point - 9 times out of 10 when a referee makes a contentious decision, where a home crowd goes crazy vocal and intimidating, the refs next decision nearly always favours the home side, and definitely they typically give BIG decisions with any question marks around them to the home side.
But on this occasion the ref goes completely against that - and gives the yellow for a challenge which easily can be seen as Phillips taking his leg out of the challenge. If we'd stayed at 11 men, I think we win,

Key thing for me is that Chaplin was in total control of the ball. It wasn't a 'coming together of bodies' or however they want to determine it. He shifts the ball to the left and gets Fatawu's full bodyweight smash through the front of him. It is absolutely stonewall. Not even up for debate.

Who btw is leading with his forearm more than shoulder and is so out control that once he blunders into chappers (who falls back) he also goes sprawling
