So Trump is in then… on 08:37 - Nov 6 by Europablue
You are probably going to be much happier for the next 4 years. You will probably be happier if you just delete the app entirely. I'm still checking the news, but it never makes you feel happy or good about the world.
Agreed. I went OTT with news consumption around 2016-2021, and only check it briefly these days, with general anxiety levels lowering.

Well as a supporter of a Republican business you must be pleased that Ipswich’s party has won the two houses and he’ll be able to push his policies through - something Harris wouldn’t have been able to do even if she had somme policies and had won.
Almost no impact on the UK at all, just like last time - although we become an even more attractive market for China when 60% tariffs are put on Chinese imports into the states - you might see a few more cheaper light fittings in B&Q and some more unwanted electric cars for Waitrose shoppers.
I suspect the enormous growth the USA will now enjoy and their immigrant bashing will give some ammunition for UK populist parties and Guardian columnists - especially if the UK is struck in neutral or reverse. It might open up a debate about how global warming might actually be good for quite a few countries with some chilly bits and access to the arctic.
But on the whole nothing much will change for the UK - although dodgy cowboys will get better tax breaks for ‘investing’ in US sports franchises.
nobody knows. with trump you don't get a policy platform and you can't take a word he has previously said as any form of commitment. all you get is trump. who he appoints will matter more. none the less i think we can safely say good bye to all the climate change targets.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I'm not sure where 'enormous growth' is going to come from. Their export capability will be hampered by the tariffs imposed in response to their own. Purchasing power will be limited by domestically-produced goods being more expensive than those knocked out by China.

You're probably correct.
He will stop funding Ukraine, which will allow Putin to walk in and take control - technically that will be classed as peace when the war stops. But not the type of peace Ukrainians wanted
In the Gaza/Israel situation, he will tell Netanyahu, get it done and finished quickly, irrelevant of how or cost, even if that means the full integration of Gaza into Israel and no separate land for the Palestinians - technically that will be classed as peace when the war stops. But not the type of peace the people of Gaza wanted.
Also if Iran attacks Israel again, Trump will hit Iran with the mother of all missiles/weapons - technically that will be classed as peace when Iran cannot hit Israel again. But not the type of peace Iranians wanted.
He will counter the impact on oil prices after hitting Iran by bringing Russia in from the cold and buying huge amounts of oil from them. Making Russia even more powerful in Europe, and being able to threaten Europe, and effectively control Europe - technically that will be classed as peace in Europe. But not the type of peace the people of Europe wanted.

It's far worse.
Last time there were a number of historical checks and balances in place within the Republican party to at least try and reign him in. This time he's surrounded by people as crazy as he is with very little to stop them, especially if they win the Senate and House which is looking possible.
He's just announced on stage that RJK Jr is going to be looking after healthcare which is just horrible.
This speech is just a load of rambling nonsense, a child could give a more accurate and eloquent speech.
SB
Yeah but MAGA Empty slogan x 1000 Look after no 1 Screw the environment Screw the Ukranians Screw the immigrants Screw the Palestinians Screw Democracy Screw grown up debate Screw Truth

I think the most important thing for Trump in a deal is to be seen as winning. I very much doubt he will just let Putin have Europe. I'm expecting either Trump to threaten to nuke Moscow if Russia does not return all Ukrainian land, or Russia will get Crimea and maybe the Russian-speaking areas in the East under the provision that Ukraine gets to join Nato and the EU if it chooses.
Putting aside ideological differences, I think your second paragraph is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on here, unless it's intended as sarcasm?

Don't care. Nothing I can do about it. If people who live thousands of miles away vote for someone, it's their prerogative. World Peace is none of our business said the cancelled singer. I live in Britain and i care about Britain. Of course it will have a global effect, I'm not stupid, but this obsession we have with the USA is ridiculous. 51st state.

I wouldn't put it past him, but what would the reason be for war with China?
If China starts on Taiwan seriously, thereby threatening global supply of processors/chips will he be able to get Americans to support a war that would essentially be to protect a bunch of factories on an island several thousand miles away?
If he does or doesn't respond militarily to such an act by China, neither outcome is encouraging.

Tariffs, tariff avoidance, China's growing power in the region impacting US allies, Xi doesn't butter him up enough, "revenge" for Covid. Trump has used enough hostile language towards China in the past.
At the end of the day, the UK has to work with Trump, so this is an Interesting snippet from Tim Shipman of the Sunday Times.
"Twice during Sir Keir Starmer’s first dinner with Donald Trump at the end of September, the former president turned to the prime minister and said: “You’re a liberal, so we won’t always agree but we can work together.” At the end of the meal, he looked at Starmer and said: “You and I are friends.” Starmer’s team breathed a sigh of relief. With America set to choose a new commander-in-chief, personal relationships could define the future of the transatlantic alliance.
An even bigger hit with Trump than the buttoned-up Starmer, however, was David Lammy, the foreign secretary. Lammy laughed in the right places at Trump’s jokes and the former president personally offered him a second portion of food, a moment of both levity and symbolism as a man accused of neo-fascist tendencies bonded with the descendant of slaves.
Lammy, who attended Harvard Law School and has relatives in the United States, is given to the kind of back-slapping bonhomie that goes a long way in Washington. “David gets American politicians,” said one diplomatic source."

That might still be the case, but it was after this meeting that Starmer sent 10 staffers over to support Harris in swing states.
That peed the Trump people off, big time.
So I guess only time will tell how the relationship will be

Donald Trump elected president of the United States
Donald Trump has won the US presidential election, the Associated Press reports, with voters overlooking his divisive speeches, felony conviction and three separate criminal indictments to send the Republican former president back to the White House.
The AP says he has reached the 270-electoral college vote threshold to return to office by winning Wisconsin.
