Boat crossings now out of control 07:56 - Nov 12 with 16501 viewsonceablue

In the last 6 days 30 boats have arrived carrying 1806 people of which 1712 are men

It is now worse than under the previous government

This raises 2 questions

What are the labour government doing to stop this as they were adamant they could sort this ?

Unless all these men are single would you leave your wife and kids alone in a country where apparently there is persecution, war and lots of horrible things happening?

I sincerely doubt that most of them are EU passport holders!

Freedom of Movement only applies to citizens of EU member States, and some adjacent States who have chosen to opt into the Schengen Agreement.

While I did vote for Labour at the General Election, I am not an uncritical supporter of Starmer, but if it were possible for any Government to solve this complex problem, made worse by the damage Brexit has done to our relationships with European States when an international approach is essential, within six months, then the first question that should be asked is "Why the f*** did the previous lot not do that?"

The answer is that it's a serious problem, requiring hard work, time and building relationships of trust with many other nations. The previous Prime Minister's included two who weren't serious people, came in and out of office so didn't have time, and put rhetoric and "Ra! Ra!" Nationalism ahead of building alliances with other nations.

Oh, and possibly wanted the problem to persist so that we could all blame illegal immigrants for things like housing shortages and hospital waiting lists, rather than the austerity policies which they have deliberately wielded to destroy public services and other key strands of our social fabric.

Freedom of movement was tightly coupled with accepting a fair quota of refugees and ultimately getting a trade deal. Whilst the UK wasn't in the schengen zone, we had benefits such as the right to live and work in it. As well as receiving benefits the same as indigenous citizens should you need them. As well the use of the camera recognition gates at points of entry.

Should the UK accept a quota of refugees. It will be easy to strike a trade deal and make travelling on a UK passport easier. Its highly likely that other benefits will also be restored as those befits would be reciprocated.

After Brexit the previous government removed the existing legal routes for refugees into the UK and we are where we are now.

As an english citizen living in the Netherlands for the last 9 years, I can see the pointless damage done by Brexit.

Ipswich Town Centre on a Saturday resembles most third world countries, as do most towns.
Only the loony lefties refuse to see it.

Ohhh, I am looking for some travel tips.

Which third world countries have you spent most time in? Top five will be fine.

Wait what, you don’t have any travel tips, well that’s very disappointing.

If it makes your life better, and you feel much better for posting a few comments, and trying to get a snide little dig in on an anonymous message board. Have at it.

Seriously, if that improves your life go for it.

Possibly the lengthening queue at the GP clinics, the waiting times required at the NHS, the increase in crime rates etc, etc.

But it's ok, you just keep on borrowing money to pay for everything.

If I'm honest, large groups of men congregating around the Town centre is intimidating for many, especially females. My sister, nieces and mother all feel uneasy walking around Ipswich, which is why they avoid the place now as much as possible.

That's not to say they are out to get anyone, or cause trouble etc but dismissing peoples concerns like these, is exactly why the likes of Trump get put in power.

That has nothing to do with the town centre looking like a third world country. You seemed to objecting to what you saw the town ctre look like rather than the perceived strain on public services from immigration.

But if you object to Ipswich Town centre looking culturally diverse you are in for one hell of a shock when you next need hospital treatment though the same NHS claiming that immigrants put a strain on.

This is absolitely right. Though has littlebto do with boats and more to do with previous mass eu immigration from eastern eirope in most places.

I've said on numerous occasions that we should engage and debate with people who have genuine concerns. But the poster didn't originally enter the debate from a position of being concerned about housing or NHS waiting lists. They went straight in with things like "third world country" "benefit scroungers" and "loony left"
