Never really got the hatred of the Irish personally. Even inflicting keno on us makes it it seem a bit disproportionate.

Just don't bother with anthems more trouble than they are worth. Handshake, exchange pennants and kick off.

Wouldn’t be so bad if ours wasn’t a horrendous dirge, glorifying one of the biggest causes of social inequality in our history.

They both got fined just last week for the same thing in the September fixture, they should’ve just waited until after this one to do double bubble!

I think some of the IRA bomb attacks in Britain in the 1970s & beyond had something to do with it. Villa fans were justifiably angry when our lot sang the Ipswich Republican Army song only 3 months after the Birmingham pub bombings.

Sure, I mean Manchester was what 1996? But going as far back as sayCromwell, I’m not sure keeping score as it were, will leave us coming out too favourably on the old atrocities front.

25-50 year old killings being dragged into football, amongst nations who are poles apart in quality is an odd thing to put front and centre. Hopefully that’s why the younger generation will see it fade more and more.

Given we were such a huge imperial power it’s strange how it looks to be booing the Irish anthem or any other in this day and age. The condemnation and fallout around Celtic and James McClean every year for remembrance maybe made it a bit fresher, but it’s still a shame people bother with it all.

Was in attendance tonight. The Irish contingent even booed when the armed forces came on to the pitch with the giant flags.

I love football but a lot of football fans regardless of nationality or who they support are absolute bell ends.

Booing the other teams national anthem and then getting upset when the other lot boo yours is so idiotic it’s funny. Up there with football hooliganism for being utter pricks.

We were in Brussels a few weeks ago and had an evening in an Irish bar drinking Guinness by the shed load. At 10pm an Irish lad came out with a Guitar and started playing all kinds of pop songs from 80s through to current day

At midnight - he pulled out a flag - and then for 60 minutes started singing pro IRA songs to a crowd of overjoyed Irish. Mainly woman going mental and joining in

Was a real eye opener - not in a good way

They must have sung Up the RA 5 times

Really strange

Regular occurrence, along with a whip round, when I use to drink in pubs along Holloway Rd in London. My Irish friends and I never joined in and were never criticised for that. There is still a lot of emotion around the perceived continued occupation of a part of Ireland, by Britain.

Yep. I would love to see the whole pre match build up changed.

The whole, walk out slowly holding hands with a child, stand about for a bit, shake hands even though you will shake hands later in the game is terrible.

Get rid of all of that. Teams should run out of the tunnel and then get going.

I'm genuinely quite amazed how many people are surprised that Ireland would boo our national anthem or military flags

A friend of mine moved to Boston, MA for work some years ago. He liked a beer & used to frequent some of the "Irish" bars & at more than one (he had a very pronounced English accent) it was made very clear to him that he was not welcome.

National anthems at sporting events are a totally ridiculous charade imo, so I couldn't care less about any of them being booed. Isn't it just football supporters engaging in the pantomime of it all? I don't see what makes a nation state's special song so important that booing it is any more of a scumbag move than me booing otbc at an EA derby.

As you say, ours glorifies one of the roots of major social inequality (not to mention imperialism), the French anthem sings about watering the fields with the blood of the impure, the Spanish anthem was once the anthem of a brutal fascist regime, and I could go on. Most anthems deserve booing.

I live in quite a Republican area compared with much of Ireland. Have drunk in many pubs all over the border area, some of um very Republican. I have an incredible English
Haverhill/Pikey accent and I reckon it's been about 15 years since anyone even cracked a joke about me being English.
Bit of a Shame in a way cause i use to quite enjoy the English-Irish banter

The UK national anthem beseeches an entity which doesn't exist to preserve another entity which (IMO) shouldn't exist. So I don't sing it, although I don't boo it.
