Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? 00:52 - Nov 24 with 7336 views | Blue_In_Boston | According to the gossip page on the BBC sports app... Manchester City could scupper Chelsea's plans to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, 21, as they have a £20m buy-back clause on a player they only sold in the summer. (Express)
Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 01:21 - Nov 24 with 6565 views | Xatticus | It won't be that low. The initial deal wouldn't make any sense if it were. We'd be incurring a lot of risk in what would essentially be a loan deal. I'm guessing that the article is referring to what we paid.

I agree with what you say but who knows? Maybe City burnt from the Cole Palmer deal and held all the cards - take that deal or not? "However, perhaps crucially for Chelsea is that Manchester City have a £20million buy-back deal in place to return Delap to the Etihad, should they wish to take up that option."

I guess Delap had to give consent for this when he signed for us originally. I’d be a bit annoyed if it were me though, meaning I could be moved from one club to another without any input at all.

Although it looks a bargain now, £15m for a player who'd had 3 OKish seasons in the second tier was already a bit of an overpay on our part, I'd be astounded if we took on all that risk with only £5m worth of potential profit on the table.

Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 05:55 - Nov 24 with 6247 views | Chris_ITFC | It might be tiered. At the point of buying, we’d have taken £5m at the end of Season 1. Realistically though, as brilliantly as he’s been, he’s not going back to City.
Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 06:39 - Nov 24 with 6057 views | HighgateBlue | Huge pinch of salt unless and until we have seen the contract. The Express is a rag, and signing up to such a clause would make no sense whatsoever from Town's perspective. Or at least, signing up to a clause of a kind that the Express implies exists. It's all pretty ambiguous anyway.
Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 06:49 - Nov 24 with 6030 views | billabasblue | Ashton was quoted a week or so ago as saying if anyone wanted to buy him they would need to put lots and lots of zeros on the offer , no chance we get back what we paid for him only ! They will be able to match what someone else offers should we decide to sell | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 07:16 - Nov 24 with 5911 views | mikeybloo88 | Depending on how this season goes for City both on and off the pitch, there could be a number of reasons why Delap going back will not be good for either him or them. No disrespect to him as he’s been great for us, but I still think they’ll be looking for different type and quality of players to solve their onfield issues.

Even if a buy-back clause was 5p, if Delap doesn’t want to go back to Man City then that clause is practically irrelevant.
Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 08:15 - Nov 24 with 5563 views | bsw72 | Clue’s in the words gossip and Express, so panic not. I would suggest that any buyback clause would state a minimum to protect the initial buyer, but also include the words along the lines of fair market value etc so as not to limit the top level. Buyback clauses are effectively giving the selling club first rights on bringing the player back, not a release clause valuation.
Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 08:22 - Nov 24 with 5520 views | Len_Brennan | I would imagine that this is reporting on some mis-reporting elsewhere. There was a poorly written article over the last few days, where the £20m figure related to our total outlay (incl add ons), but which looked as though it referred to the potential buy back amount. I would imagine somebody read it as the former, then re-gurgitated as that, and now here we are. Aa another poster said a couple of days ago, if the buy back was £20m, we would effectively be loaning Delap for the season. Also, it was confirmed that they have a sell on clause in the deal; sell on's only relate to any future profit made by the buying club, so it's unlikely that the buy bavk would be for the sale amount.

I mean anyone with any common sense knows. As we'd have obviously just loaned him with no upside of a permanent deal.

Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 09:22 - Nov 24 with 5070 views | wrightsrightglove | I think people are getting too hung up on what he might be worth. If his goals help to keep us up then he’s played a part in another £200million-ish coming into the club. If that means City buy him back for £20million (although I think this is massively unlikely for several reasons) then he’ll effectively have been our greatest loan player of all time. It would be a massive shame, but staying in this league is the aim and he’s massively helping that cause.

Why we should look to buy ferguson or lath in Jan. Get them in. Competition for delap but also doesn't mean losing delap is the end of the world in the summer if it happened.

Delap buy back clause a mere £20 million? on 10:00 - Nov 24 with 4788 views | tractordownsouth | It could be a clause that becomes active only if we go down. The Cameron Archer to Sheffield United deal was similar. They bought him for £15m but their relegation activated Aston Villa's buy-back for a similar fee.

Brighton value Ferguson at £100M, so that's him off the table. Latte Lath could do a job for us, I would take him in a heart beat, but not sure we can afford him in January. We must be somewhere close to our limits. With all the new players and contracts, even split 4 or 5 ways, must add up to a small fortune. I think a half season loan is probably the best we can hope for.

As much as I’d love to I just can’t see Ferguson being available to buy but I’d take him on loan in a heartbeat. Also think if Boro are in and around the playoffs they’re not going to want to let Lath go unless it’s a mega offer / he downs tools / it’s right at the end of the window and they’ve managed to get someone else in. I’m hoping we’ll go in hard on getting Ferguson on loan for the rest of the season on the first day of the transfer window. Hopefully Hirst is fit again by then as well.

That's what they value him at. Can't see them loaning him out, (his is a bit injury prone) so reckon he have to look elsewhere.

I know it's not a direct swap but Broadhead could go the other way? Ali Al-Hamadi seems to be being touted by several journos at other clubs
