‘Muric is the worst ever ‘keeper to play for ITFC’

Seen that said a few times.

Well he’s not is he.

Not defending him for today because that was a real moment of madness. If he doesn’t come flying out (for no reason) we probably hold on for the win.

But, his first costly mistake since Brentford away, and been fine since then, he’s no where near the worst ‘keeper ever to pull on the Town shirt is he.

If you are the kind of team that’s going to score 14 in 15 or concede 27 in the same games your keeper is going to be under pressure a lot and not all of that is down to him. Same for the team failing to score in 5 games. He’s not the one who keeps losing the ball high up the pitch with little protection. I don’t hear people blaming Delap for his misses or similar for Chappers, Hutchinson, Szmodics et al.

Folks should keep off his back and leave team selection to KMcK and the coaches.

Whilst not disagreeing with your overall point, worth mentioning that if he'd shown any interest in Man U's cross he could well have stopped their goal. So in the last seven games he's played a direct part in three conceded goals that have arguably dropped us six points.

He's been pretty good lately. Leaps and bounds from the opening games imo.

I don't think he is anywhere near good enough.

Thomas 'the clown' Holy comes to mind, as does Arran Lee-Barrett and James Pullen's nightmare debut against Grimsby which he looked out of his depth by a mile.

Dai Cornell and Will Norris have to be in with a shout too.

I think people are only too ready to call out what he does wrong, but not what he does right after a mistake like today's. He has made some worldie saves this season that many seem to take for granted.

He's a keeper with all the attributes to be World Class and has shown it at times. He's levels above Hladky in terms of capability in my opinion.

However he's young for a goalkeeper and making some judgement errors. Last thing this guy needs is fans turning on him and making him feel less secure. This is when to support a player. He will make mistakes.

It's not true to put 5-6-7 points on him though. It's collective and this never accounts for points he's made us. Big saves in game alike Brighton and Spurs games stand out.

He's completely what we knew he was going to be, sometimes brilliant sometimes fcking awful.

I notice he got a lot of plaudits for his save onto the bar at Forest. Was it just me that thought that was a total flap that he got lucky with?

most of the fans saying that never saw Andy Marshall play, or even Sereni, blimey there were people that used to give Craig Forrest stick for the 9-0.

and no Muric isnt fwiw, those that say that are idiots.

Potentially proportionate to the league we’re in he may be.

I’ve been going since 1995 and I don’t think it’s recency bias to say the last keeper I felt this uneasy about was ALB or Andy M. The fact we paid 9million really doesn’t help.

In terms of post xG+- (this is how goalkeepers are judged in terms of saves, quality of shot I.e likelihood of it being scored vs saves made) Muric comes out 12th out of 34 goalkeepers in the prem.

For comparisons sake, Wolves goalkeepers are 29th and 34th respectively.

Muric is statistically saving more, and not just because of more shots, than the average goalkeeper at this level. It could be fairly argued he's saved us more points than cost us but of course it doesn't take into account the context of game situations.

If we go down and he's our keeper next year, you can guarantee everyone will be waxing lyrical about him. You can also guarantee that had we kept Hladky this year and played him, many would be moaning that he's not good enough.

The step up to the Premier League is huge. Muric just needs to iron out the silly decisions. He certainly has the ability.

Depends how you measure it really. Based on pure talent obviously not our worst, but based on points lost due to individual errors then must be getting up there.

Flapper Marshall was by far the worst in my memory. Closely followed by Matteo Sereni. Not that he was a terrible keeper, he just had a sh1tty attitude.

People are very quick to jump on him. I agree with you, the moment of madness was his error and I don't think it was ever a keepers ball to come and claim.

But he's made some brilliant saves this season. He's kept us in games at crucial times. The Brighton & Spurs game he definitely played a massive part in those 4 points we picked up. I think people forget this though.

That said, I wouldn't be overly surprised if we did look for a new keeper in January. It could be the difference in staying up, but it's a difficult market.

I think Muric has got better but he has got a calamitous mistake in him in every game. It's just he gets away with some, like the outside-of-the-boot pass at Spurs that almost ended up in our net and inadvertently led to our second goal.
His decision-making and kicking under pressure is terrible but he does pull off world-class saves and his presence and handling at crosses has been very good.
But all that good work counts for nothing if you keep making errors - and he's made 4 big ones this season that have led to goals.
I'm not sure he should be in the team but I don't think McKenna will drop him yet. Walton has done nothing wrong and is a good keeper but like all players on the sidelines, they get better in the opinion of fans through not playing.
Hladky was not the answer this season. Forget the kicking, he would have been bullied in the box at every cross or corner. There's a reason he's not playing for Burnley right now.
In Muric's defence, Morsy was guilty of at least two major mistakes yesterday that could easily have led to a goal but was bailed out by his team-mates.

The problem with goalies is that they are in an awful position where one split decision can yield awful consequences. He made a bad decision, it happens. Other players make bad decisions also, but they rarely result in a goal being scored so are brushed under the carpet. Had we have been more clinical up front this would not have been an issue, but it's too easy to blame a goalie.
Let's also remember the significant criticism of Vas last season - but suddenly everyone loves him? He can't get in the Burnley team at the moment.
Our fans love nothing more than finding a scapegoat - but its a team not individual game

Technically he's played a part in every goal we've conceded

some people are WAY too quick to lambast

City - moment of madness, points cost? 0

Brentford - mistake/assumption someone would touch the ball to turn it in... points cost? 1

Tottenham - save at the death, points saved? 2

Bournemouth - moment of madness, points cost 2 (it made it 1-1) but arguable 3 points as it gave Bournemouth more momentum.

Ha, my downvote came from "Leaky". Good to see you on here Aro.

Yes, entirely agreed about Spurs, and a point at Brighton, and I'm not "lambasting". But if your keeper's individual balls-ups are costing you more points than his standout performances are earning you - and they are - then there's questions to answer.

Really? Proportionate to the league we are in Andy Marshall is the worst for me by some way. We would have gone up if he wasn't as poor as he was.

Yea but v Spurs he passed to them and they should have made it 1 each we then went down the other end and made it 2-0 a error in him every game I'm afraid if not almost.
